so…just gonna go out on a limb and say :apple: is trying really, really hard to make sure no one…copies their OS name? this seems like copyright tomfoolery regardless. why do they need 20 different trademarks when there’s only gonna be one OS name? highkey make it make sense

No, you won't LOL. You'll see how hideous Apple AR/VR is going to look. It's already going to be very cringy. Mark my words!
girl were you not all over this thing a couple months ago? does the oversaturation just have you tired or is my memory shot? 😂

(sidenote—hope calling you “girl” in like every single reply to you doesn’t come off as patronizing, it’s what I call basically everyone irl and this place is such a g/d sausagefest that it’s rare I get to actually say it around here lmaooo)

xrProOS is SOorPrx spelled backwards. As in, "We've just bumped into tables we couldn't see thanks to our VR gear, and now we've got soorprx."

WHEW!

XRproREALITyOSxX++ (or whatever it was) was a terrible name

Isn't it obvious that it's standard practice for a company the size of Apple to register many different trademarks that are similar to the real name in order to prevent future bad actors from tricking people?

No, they aren't going to call it vrproOS. Not realityproOS. Not realOS. These are "just in case" registrations to prevent bad actors from using them.

They'll call it vrOS.
Pronounced “Ver-oss”!

Like: those nifty goggles, they really have some market VEROCITY!

Anyone here tired of hearing about the Apple AR/VR headset and just over it? 🥺
I am. I want to hear more about their focus on the massive uptick in bugs for iOS and Mac lately. Apple is already stretched too thin. And I want to hear some damn announcement about the Mac Pro. Even just one sentence that it’s still being worked on. It’s over the 2 year mark and not a word about it.

THIS THIS THIS. I just sent a PM to another member how tired I've gotten of all the negativity here. Their response was kind, but they missed my point. Not worth pursuing. I am very excited to see what Apple will unveil. It's been a long time since Apple Watch. The M series Macs were (are) great, but they're just improvement on pre-existing products. I won't (likely) be able to afford the new product for some time, but I am happy to see it unveiled.
The problem is Apple is stretching themselves too thin. I’m fine if they work on something like this. But it’s costing a lot in other areas. They need to fix the insane number of bugs in iOS and macOS. They need to put more attention to the macs to FINISH their overdue 2 year transition. At least talk about why Mac Pro is delayed. They just don’t treat us pros very well.

And they reportedly pulled people off other things to work on this. And it’s showing.

Best case, the headset is the equivalent of the Apple Watch Series 0. It needed a lot of work, but Apple fans were so excited to have a new product category to purchase that complemented their iPhones, over multiple iterations it became a legitimate success.
Worst case, the headset follows the trajectory of the Apple TV or HomePod.
Worst worst case, it's is quietly discontinued in a couple of years.

Kind of, yeah.
At the same time, I’m somewhat curious to see what they do with it - but I don’t believe they will do anything that will make the general public finally adopt VR/AR. Not at these prices and not with the niche use cases.
I probably said it before on here, but not even gamers (as a demographic that likes to spend money on gadgets for immersive experiences) have adopted VR en masse. I find that somewhat telling.

realOS seems most likely of these since its 2 syllables or less +os. watchOS iOS tvOS iPadOS macOS
realOS doesn't fit into their naming scheme though. With the exception of iOS, every OS name that's followed has been _(name of product)_OS.

Apple Mac = macOS
Apple Watch = watchOS
Apple TV = tvOS
Apple iPad = iPadOS

What wil the name of this AR/VR headset be? Supposedly, it's going to be called Reality Pro which means OS would be realityproOS or realityOS

why do they need 20 different trademarks when there’s only gonna be one OS name?
For a number of reasons, one of which you mentioned yourself - to make sure noone takes it. Another is to obfuscate whatever name they do end up using so there's a big reveal whenever they announce it. Another is to prevent "Name Camping" wherein someone registers a bunch of names in hopes of getting a huge licensing payoff from Apple or a check for selling the name/tm etc

Well the conference for pros is in 2 weeks, so hopefully we get a lot of what you’re mentioning

I hope the next os release is a snow leopard: bug fixes and stability improvements over features
