Here's a sketchy one:

I can understand docking it horizontally, but when would you want it to dock vertically? Will it come with two docks? Nah...Just one, but it would look awkward putting this vertically with 1.5" of the dock sticking out on each side.

I don't think Apple knows what they want this 'tablet' computer to be. Netbook? No, it's too expensive. Media player? Nah, we already have these, with far more codec support and cheaper. Ebook reader? Not if I can't read it in sunlight and if it diesn't have great battery life. Portable internet device? Not until you can take it anywhere and not get zapped with ungodly bills for going online. Replacing pen and paper? You need input, and I don't see a virtual leyboard or stylius being all that great.

I don't know; I see Apple chasing a holy grail that just doesn't nor can't exist.

Wouldnt you buy now and sell on the 28th.. or are you thinking that the stock will ultimately fall after the announcement.

The advice "buy on rumours, sell on news" is built into the system.

Apple Stock Falls After iPhone Announcement

Posted June 9, 2008 - By Stephen Johnson

On the day a new iPhone is announced, you'd think Apple's stock would soar into the stratosphere, but instead,
the computer giant's shares tanked.

As of the closing of the market today, Apple's stock was down $4.03, or 2.2 percent, to $181.61. In the
past year, the stock has traded between $111.62 and $202.96.

Although industry analysts, pundits and poor people applaud the lowering of the iPhone's price point
to $199, the stock did not respond with exuberance. Some think the falling stock price is because
analysts were expecting a surprise
that did not come at Apple's WWDC conference.

"There probably were investors that were hoping for some additional announcements, such as, perhaps,
an update to (Apple's laptop line) or others," RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky said.

Ummmm... the tablet is suppose to be the convergence device for.."netbook", "media player", "ebook reader", "portable internet device" and "pen and paper" all in one with a large screen. You need to stop focusing on specific functions and think of the bigger picture that the supposed convergence device that the slate can be. The question you should be asking is not what its main function suppose to be, but what does the slate/tablet do better than a laptop for the same price.

Apple is going to fool us all by having the docking connector on the corner, with a triangle-shaped dock that can hold the tablet in either orientation. But the dock will have to be very heavy to prevent the tablet from tipping over!

lmao, yeah see that happening haha

I can understand docking it horizontally, but when would you want it to dock vertically?

If it indeed comes with a front-facing camera for video chat, then I suppose you would want to have it charging in a docking station while talking for long periods of time. Just a guess, if the rumor is at all accurate.

Lets think about this; When do you use a dock connector? Charging and Syncing... Hmm why would we need to 'dock' it either way?

There are other devices that dock two ways. Portrait for reading, but laid over in landscape when used as a night alarm or TV.

Either the dock or the device needs two connectors. Doesn't have to be the device.

Or... the device could have a major connector for extenders, syncing, etc on one side... and just a small power connector on the pther side for when it's turned 90 degrees.

2 docking ports? Don't think so. It should be fully wireless.

If so how do you propose charging it?

Also a horizontal dock would make it viewable in landscape mode anywhere in the house.

Bring it in the kitchen to watch a cooking show for example.
Or view your recipes.

The last ones a big hint for current ADC members.

This is exactly what I've been thinking ever since the tablet rumors picked up.

The second connector - its for the brain implant communicator optional extra that Apple will sell for a 'reasonable fee'.

( Operation fee not included )

"You will be surprised how you interact with the device"....

This actually points to a bunch of possibilities. You can buy it from Apple with out 3G, get it from a 3G service provider and get the tablet at a discount for getting into a contract with them, get it from a magazine or book publishing house at a discount for getting into a contract with them etc.

Concerning the 3G.. It will absolutely have it. You guys realize this device will be rolled out along with the new mobile iTunes.. Your Tablet will have access to your entire media collection ONLINE through iTunes mobile. Massive hard drive? Eh eh..

I love this speculative business :)

Syncing will be done via bluetooth or wifi

The docking port will not be like the current 30pin cable we think of now. Maybe more like the mag charger that will clip to any side of the tablet. It will come with a dock which will then have the normal 30 pin output.

I wonder if its worth creating 10" screen protectors from now :) and maybe a carry case a la manila folder for the air? maybe a good business idea?

You'll need the tablet in portrait mode for ebooks and ecatalogues/magazines.

Good time for apple to push the MobileMe, especially if you have a macbook, iphone and now the tablet. Keep all your info in sync. They just need to reduce the pricing dramatically.

The question for me is, if I have a macbook pro and an iPhone already, will I need a tablet? I had the iPod and I got the iPhone because it offered more. So what will the tablet have that will have more than the iPhone? get ready for an Apple suprise :)

Butu, I could be wrong. The tablet might be aimed at the other small % of the world who still dont have an iPhone or a mac. In which case the tablet might just be a giant iPhone. No use for me :(

It won't be too long before Apple adopts the trifecta of wireless technologies that render dock connectors (and wires) redundant.

These wireless technologies offer higher speeds than wired connections:

WirelessHD - 28Gbit/sec Lossless HD Video Streaming at 4K Res in 3D (4096x2160)
WiGig - 7GBit/sec Wireless Ethernet
WiTricity - Wireless charging anywhere in the room

It's more like you don't know what Apple has or will do with this thing. I would say Apple knows exactly what they want it to be and I expect that it's exactly what they want. On the other hand, none of us truly knows, and it's stupid to think all the rumors are accurate. I don't doubt that some of the guesses will get close, but I'm willing to bet the ones who say it can't be something are the ones who are wrong.

Don't bet on it....

I think the stock market is going to react negatively to the price and the fact that the tablet isn't what they all thought it would be.

Don't bet the farm on it. We are talking Steve Jobs here, creator of the PC as we know (along with Wozniak), redefining the Phone market in one stroke and of course, re-inventing and devouring the MP3/Music market. Others such as Bill Gates have done wonders, but based more on good timing and good business sense than technological and marketing savvy.

Steve Jobs is in a league of one (himself), when it comes to defining, creating and rewriting the anals of technological and marketing genious. Key to is all this is creating user freindly products, that he knew we would use, before we knew it. Even the Newton was a great product, just ahead of its time (I mean isn't the Iphone and possibly the I????? an extension of those idea's on steroids.

I for one, as an investor, would be hard pressed to justify any call for or against anything Steve Jobs does, at least untill we know what it is and does. Even then we still could be staggeringly wrong. How many people wrote off the Iphone in the first few weeks and lived to regret it (A distinguished list indeed).

Steve Jobs is one of those people that I beleive has known what he needs to do, to acheive his goals and dreams since he could think. The staggering detail and the thought that goes into these products is just mind boggling. Is there, or has there, ever been a genious in his field such as him.

He is the Micheal Angello of our time, think about it.....

Historically, Apple stock always drops after a keynote. Eventually it recovers, but it usually climbs before an event and then falls immediately after.

However these movements are usually not significant when compared to the long term stock movement.
