Don't forget that talk-time with these UK plans is *outgoing* minutes only. Those 3000 minutes or whatever you get only count towards calls you make. Unlike the US, any calls you receive don't count towards your airtime.

VERY true, and it is good to point out.

Funny think is I average less than 50 mins of talk time a month on my iPhone plan..........

Its an iPhone. Who the F%$^ uses it to talk on ...

I think it's a disgrace though that we've got to pre order tomorrow on one of 5 networks and we've still got no clue what the prices are going to be.

No we don't. I won't be ordering one as I've still got 12 months to run on my contract and don't feel like paying £240 for the privilege of signing up to another 18/24 months on O2, especially with their new tariffs that frankly take the mick! They also have very poor network coverage in my town of 40,000 people just outside the M25 and have shown no inclination of doing anything about it.

My heart tells me that I want (indeed need!) to update to the iPhone 4 but I think I'm going to be seeing out my contract with O2 and looking elsewhere for a better deal next time around.

Nobody is forcing you to sign that contract and get an iPhone 4. If you don't fancy doing it, why not wait a bit and see how the land lies? Yes, you might not be getting your lovely new iPhone on launch day but you'll be able to make a more informed and considered decision.

seems an ok plan from vodafone, better data plan than 02

seems though i will wait until all carriers in the UK announce plans

Orange
Vodafone
02
Tesco
T-mobile
Three network
Virgin? admit they are in talks with apple

A choice out of 7 is gotta be better than a choice of AT&T or errrrrrrrr AT&T :D

US needs more carriers or will always have not very good plans cos there is no competition from other iphone carriers .

I can't comment on the coverage although OfCOM can tell you all about it.

As for contradicting operators, yep Vodafone have got that in buckets.

I'm considering going back to o2, been giving Vodafone a trial for the last few months -- they seemed to have failed due to the lack of visual voicemail.

o2 have their issues (as far as contradicting operators) but at least it's all UK based.

I've also got a Three PAYG SIM ordered to give them a run on the old iPhone before I consider giving them my hard earned...

Does anyone know what Vodafone's network coverage is like, especially in Norfolk. Also what their customer service is like. I am currently with Orange and am thinking of moving to O2 or Vodafone. I had an issue with my phone abroad and the service I got from Orange was pretty poor, emails not answered, operators contradicting each other etc. etc. Apart from that I cannot wait to get the new phone!!!!
:D

<sarcasm>

Worst company ever to not have unlimited data, how dare they, blah blah blah.

</sarcarm>

1GB cap on ALL plans? Ouch.

Compare that to O2 who have a 500MB cap on all plans below £40.

This sucks. Looks like Vodafone "leaked" it on purpose to test the water, then deny they're the real prices. Gives the other networks a clue as to what they're going for and Vodafone a chance to test the water.

Not likely, since they match up pretty neatly with their current plans for the 3GS.

I think it's a disgrace though that we've got to pre order tomorrow on one of 5 networks and we've still got no clue what the prices are going to be.

That much I'll agree with. We have no information at all at this point, Vodafone won't even confirm it'll be available from them tomorrow if you ask their customer service reps.

these are the same as vodafones 3gs prices.

and the data, im pretty sure no uk carriers offer unlimited data for the iphone, 1gb is the most i've seen.

vodafone gets the best reception where i live so they'll get my money tomorrow.

I have been on the iPhone 3G with O2 £35 plan for 2 years. Looking at the Vodaphone plans I may go for £30 plan as 300 mins is enough. Would start saving money by year 2.
The tariffs on O2 were 18 months when I got my 3G on the day of release. Looks like the O2 plans have had a lot of subtle price hikes.

I cant wait to see three's range of prices, they always do really well pricing wise.

Despite what people say 3 are actually quite a good network, the speed of the internet over 3G is much quicker than my brothers o2 phone.

1gb Cap for vodaphone seems a little crippling especially if you want to use data intense app's like Spotify.

It's only limited to 'roaming' with the UK BT wifi service you get in places like starbucks/airports etc. You can still DL from your own wifi or open wifi.

No, I know that. I am just surprised that it would be limited. AT$T does a lot of crap, but at least they don't limit the WiFi. :p

Tesco Mobile also carry the iPhone in the UK (although not a major carrier)

1GB sounds reasonable to me. Ive had my iphone over 6 months and use it regularly for data and i'm still below 700MB of received data. Everywhere i go in the UK seems to have free wifi, so theres really no need for anything greater.

Out here in the 'sticks', Lincolnshire there's nowhere I've found that gives free WiFi! And very little 3G Coverage... I guess in the cities it's OK. But Lincolnshire only has 1 City, Lincoln. And 3G there is crap.

I think if all us Brits walk with our feet, we may get better deals. I think we're going to get screwed, but then I want one so bad :(

Well I emailed O2 about this and they told be that they would NOT be offering a pre-ordering service.

I was like great....

It all depends on what contract they have with BT for their openzone hotspots... O2 has a contract that gives all their customers unlimited wifi (and same with the cloud) but voda (and I think orange only has 750mb... if it's the same as the 3Gs) only has a contract for 1gb... still their fault probs :p need to throw a bit more cash at BT!!!

I've still 10 months to go on my contract, I'm thinking of buying a Pay & Go one and keep my unlimited data and 600 mins for £35, and worry about the cap next year. Should get a few hundred for my 32GB 3GS on ebay which will help.

If 3 offer pre-ordering and good prices and a decent amount of data then bye bye O2.

But to be honest I don't really care as long as I am one of the first getting iPhone 4 on the June.

Even if I was first to get it I would still be at least third (thanks gizmondo :L)

WTF? so can we only pre-order PAYG? are you sure they didn't mean pre-order on their own site? cuz on their site they don't even say that apple will be doing pre-orders... if they don't offer it and others do they'll likely loose money cuz some ppl will just go with one of the other operators... (I'm still unsure who I'm going with... but if some providers offer pre-order tomorrow and O2 doesn't then I'll definitely go with one of the others so I can order it tomorrow, haha, I REALLY want to iphone b4 it sells out :p )

Looks like the subsidies are the same as at present, therefore I think it's likely the PAYG iPhones will be the same price as now :D

1G a month of data is a joke. With all the new iphone 4 720p videos that are going to be uploaded to youtube I can't see it covering more than a week or two.

Exactly, but I will defo not go with T-Mobile and Vodaphone though as T-Mobile has really poor coverage for me and Vodaphone has slow internet.

So I am between O2, 3 and Orange, based on iPad data plans I would imagine 3 is going to be a good bet but we shall see!

I really want to go with O2 as I have been impressed with the service (even if they have capped data) but the pre-order is the deal breaker for me, I suppose i could get the iPhone from Apple and go on simplicity.

Also has anyone recieved a micro sim from O2, I was told they send them when you register interest with them, is this true?

There may be no option to pre-order a mthly contract, tomorrow at all. At this point only Apple has stated that they are taking pre-orders (per Steve's keynote and backed up on the web site iphone 4 'notify me' page) and the Apple web store historically only sells PAYG models. No plans are up yet other than leaks and rumours.

Maybe the carriers will surprise us and put something up in the morning, in which case if you want to be at the head of the queue it will require a mad rush round the sites to check out the comparative plan prices!
