Wow the Amazon trust is nuts.

They are more trust worthy than Facebook but not by much.
I personally on that list put Apple Microsoft and Google as the most trustworthy

I take it this poll was taken after Apple's announcement that it plans to install government abusable software on future iPhones. That probably has something to do with why the results are what they are.

I don't trust any company with my data. All of my important data is stored exclusively locally. (Ofcourse with a good backup solution)

But if I had to put trust in one company, it would be Apple or Microsoft. (in that order)
Until recently I would’ve said the same… now I’m fleeing Apple as quickly as I can afford to.

So you think Google is more trustworthy?

For me trust is basically an expected outcome. I can trust that some of the people I know won’t be there to help me when I need it. That’s the expected outcome. I trust Google and Facebook will sell my personal data for advertisements. I trust Apple would sell my personal data if they have a motive. They don’t have an advertising motive so the only other motive would be governments and I’ve given up that battle. If you don’t want the government to have your data then don’t have a cell phone at all because even with a dumb phone you can be tracked.

Google does not sell your data. This myth needs to die. They sell advertisement targeted toward demographic buckets, and they put you in a bucket, but they never sell the data they have on you.

Facebook does. Facebook sucks.
How it actually works is like Lego.

Companies get to collect bricks (Information about your preferences and routines) and build out them a big money-worthy lego statue (Your digital profile stored deep away in the caches of these companies) and sell them to other companies just to collect more bricks (Data and digital profiles used by companies to deliver advertisements based about the data they got).

So even Apple, some linux distros and other "prviacy"-oriented parties still got the chance to have your data and send it off to advertising, and Apple is likely one of them.

Also goverments sometimes request data from Companies to check for criminal activity but it os mainly for snooping.

Google is far less trustworthy. I trust none of them at all, but certainly not Amazon, Google, Facebook, or Microsoft. I actually avoid those companies almost entirely(for awhile) and purposefully network my traffic around their servers as often as is actually possible(considering they own so much of the web infrastructure). But just because I don’t like what Apple’s doing doesn’t mean I prefer the others or that I prefer someone else. I’m actually quite sad about leaving. But Apple has truthfully just lost all of my trust at this point, and that’s getting worse all the time. I’ve already moved back to linux full-time and I’m switching to a deGoogled android phone pretty soon. It’s been a decision I’ve struggled with for a while now but they’ve just recently made me run even faster with all their latest decisions. There’s a large list of things that have made me uncomfortable that I’ve tolerated because of the positives, but the list keeps growing and getting harder to justify and continue to buy into the ecosystem. They’ve done a lot right, but not enough to make me blind to the changes that are coming. This isn’t even really about the CSAM debacle as much as everything else—but it certainly didn’t help and pushed me harder. I’m on the latest iOS 15, but only because Apple has let NSO Group run their big bounty program for them.

Edit: and as far as your mentioning being tracked by govt, we’re always tracked even without a cell phone. Your neighbors Alexa might even hears you even in your home. My concern is the amount of data that I generate and the data that I hand over to other parties… that then goes anywhere and everywhere. No longer mine. Anyone can get that, and yeah I’d prefer less of it is out there. Anyone could be govt, or it could be creepy targeted ads, or scammers, etc. Our data’s going to be weaponized a lot more as time goes on and it’s never destroyed. I’m just tightening the purse strings on mine. Apple’s not doing enough in my mind, even if they do more than the other big players.
