May have spoken too soon. After a few hours the issue came back. Sorry guys. :(

This is driving me mental. For the money iPhones cost and Apple's self-smug attitude about making the best products in the world, we're having to delve into the bowels of the phone to enable the simplest of functionalities.

I'm happy to be people's guinea pig -- I'll keep trying and let you know what does/doesn't work.

Really pleased to see everybody's feedback and I'm at least reassured that I'm not alone.

Thank you all for reading through and I hope we'll all get a fix for this issue.

One more item that effected wifi with iOS 8 is the 5ghz wifi band. Seems there was an issue with the 5ghz wifi drivers that caused slowness and disconnects on 5ghz but setting router to the 2.4 worked fine. That seems to have been resolved with 8.1 for most folks. (mostly iP6 users had this issue). If you are using 5ghz wifi try and change your router to 2.4. This is a workaround and troubleshooting process for the moment. If it works then you are closer to resolution. Either Apple iOS update or router firmware update to resolve it.

I have a Cisco EA4500 router running the latest firmware. I will try and connect to my 5Ghz network only and see if that has an impact later on tonight.

this is the exact same router I'm using and I'm using my macbook air and idevices on the n5/ghz band and the problem is still there, not as often than 8.02 but it still happens time to time...

Having the same issue on my 5S. Router is already WPA2 and I have WiFi networking off as well. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

Yeah, my sister wasn't having this issue on her iP5, even when she was on 8.0. Looking at the feedback & the fact my friend also has a 5S with the same problem, it leads me to believe it's mainly a problem on the 5S.

Does anybody else have a 5S and could you confirm?

Honestly had I known this beforehand I'd have stayed on 7.1 :(

I have a works iPhone 5S (IOS 8.1) constant, stable connection to wifi

I had wifi issue with my personal iPhone 6 (IOS 8.0.2) until changing my routers WEP setting to WPA2 since then I also have a solid connection to my router.

As I've mentioned in other threads, reading the horror stories of wifi, battery, re-spring issues on the iPhone 6 with IOS 8.1, I'm happy sticking to IOS 8.0.2. (for the time being)

I've got a 5S as well and I'm having WiFi issues too.
I use an AirPort Extreme.

I reset the whole device yesterday, hoping to fix the problem. But it didn't

Hi iwan, thank you for your feedback. It's regrettable that a total device reset didn't resolve the issue.

Has anybody had an opportunity to go to an Apple Store/spoken to Apple Support about it? I appreciate it's not a hardware issue (because it worked fine on iOS 7) but perhaps it's documented and they'll hopefully have a fix.

I can't begin to vent my frustration when iOS games keep lagging/disconnecting when playing online due to this issue. So many hands lost in Poker, and so many sessions disconnected on Miniclip Pool :(

Out of interest did you have wifi issues on 8.0 on your 5S?

I have an Apple Store appointment tomorrow evening to talk with them about it and see what happens. I'll share back any findings from what they say.

if you guys are having wifi issues turn off bluetooth this has fixed my wifi issues with my iphone 6 plus and ipad air both running ios 8.1. try speedtest again im pretty sure this will work for most of you..this was recommended by another forum user and has worked for them aswell.

My 5s seems to be performing well without any wifi issues with all version of 8.x. I use a ASUS RT-N16 at home. At work the AP's are Cisco Aironet 1142.

On a different note, I ran into some LTE issues (very slow upload/download speeds) with OTA upgrade of 8.0.2. That's when I decided to perform an itunes restore and setup as a new phone. LTE has improved since.

Bluetooth already disabled :(

Thank you for the suggestion though.

My iPad (retina mini, the first one) also has issues with WiFi since iOS8. It just randomly stops working, although the WiFi icon is there will full signal, and I need to turn off WiFi and then back on to get back net access. Works fine on everything else except the iPad.

I tried router reset (using an Asus RT-AC68U), resetting the network settings, rebooting the iPad etc.

After resetting the network settings the situation somewhat improved (it used to do it very frequently before that, as in, every few minutes), but it's still not working properly (still appears disconnected now and then). Not sure what to do about it, it's very annoying. It used to work before iOS8.

Exactly what happens on my iPhone 6 multiple times a day.

8.1 fixed my wifi issues on my iPad mini R and iPhone 6. I run all my data through a secure VPN at all times.

There's one other thing people can try if they're having problems and can't solve them. Go into your router and change your encryption from whatever it is right now to WPA personal and instead of AES only, choose TKIP/AES.

Report back if it helps.:)

If you are having wifi issues with ios 8, like me. Can you try something. Change your 5ghz band to 100. I've done it and so far, it's stable. The lower channels would lose data every now and again. Please report back with your results.

I've lost track of what you're tried in this thread, so if this is a duplicative post, apologies. I was having some problems with my iPad Air on 7.1.2. The problems went away after I reset network settings on the iPad. Wifi connectivity remains good after the update to 8.1. Hope you get this solved...

Hi funky, thank you for your suggestion. I only have a 2.4GHz router but I'm stopping at a friend's this weekend who has a dual-band VM router, so I'll try with both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks and see if there's a noticeable difference. I'll also do what you suggest.

Hi newelj, tried resetting network settings earlier in the thread -- it was a little better and then reverted to its old ways. Thank you for the suggestion though! :)

Regrettably I've cycled through a few different encryption types without a noticeable difference. Thank you for your suggestion though.

If I may point out that for 10 minutes at a time there don't seem to be any issues at all. I know this sounds weird but closing background apps seem to make a slight positive difference. Again I'm not sure if that's just placebo but it lead me to believe that potential background app refreshes could be causing the issue.

I'll see if there's a way to disable all background app refreshes/push notifications and it may be a little better.

Again, thank you all for your input. I really appreciate you taking the time to assist.

I went to the Apple Store last night. Since I tried all of the software options here, they are replacing my 5S and my wife's.

When I got the replacement for my wife, it was still on 7.1.2. I did a restore to 8.1 so we'll see if the issue comes back for hers. My replacement is on order and I'll report back after I get it.

That's great bertimus, thank you sincerely for your feedback. I wish you the best of luck and hope the problem will be resolved for you. :)

Surely with Apple replacing handsets is that not their way of saying its a hardware problem not software?.

I'm glad you guys are getting replacements but if this only kicked off after IOS8.0.1, 8.0.2 & 8.1, the only thing that's changed is software.

When WiFi Won't Load Anything On My Devices.

I used to have this issue (on my iPad & iPhone) with an early version of iOS 7. It went away after one of the small updates. Since iOS 8, it has returned. When I start experiencing it on either device, I turn on Airplane Mode for a few seconds. This immediately fixes things, for a decent amount of time.
