Ok - fair enough. I should have called them mis-informed rather than stupid. As far as how the Clinton administration had a plan for no debt that was assuming the tech boom continued and consumer spending kept going crazy. The president actually has very little impact on a recession and there's always going to be an ebb and flow to the economy. It was only natural for the economy to adjust itself after the tech boom.

True, but they do have sway in congress, especially with their vice presidents.

Also, if you want to go back to a single moment in time when our country was on the verge of being United it was during the Clinton administration. Time had a pretty lengthy article about how Clinton and Gingrich were this close to fixing SS and then the Monica thing happened and it polarized the entire nation and thrust morality to the fore front of the White House and sharply divided those who think sexual morality doesn't have anything to do with the White House and those who think morality speaks volumes about you as a person (and by extension, as a President). So, way to go Monica!! :p

Interesting. I'll have to go looking for that article.

The strange thing about all of this is all of the things that normally spur economic growth (war, decreased taxes) aren't really doing that much and it's throwing everyone for a loop. The single largest factor is the cost of oil that is overly inflated because that money grubbing neighbor or yours insists on buying oil futures on the market and screwing his/her fellow 300 million Americans (and by extension everyone else in the world).

Yep. It's also screwing with the value of the dollar, which is absolutely pitiful.

But yeah, iPhone, 3G, 60 days (or is it 57 now?), GPS?, 2nd Camera(front facing)?, OLED?, 32GB?

If it's a yes to all of those I'll give my iPhone to a friend and buy that one! (There's me helping to spur the economy! :)

I could do with just 3G, but all of those together would be quite nice :)

Also, thanks for being a cool, rational commenter. You realized that I wasn't trying to start an argument and was simply trying to get my point across. That makes you smarter than many of the hot-headed posters on macrumors.

"Walt Mossberg denies having any specific knowledge of the 3G iPhone's release, despite matter-of-fact comments to the contrary last week."

So he's now retracted his earlier statement. But having watched that video, although he's clearly on a run, I somewhat doubt he was just making an educated guess. He had just named-dropped Steve Jobs in a very familiar manner: "I know that guy".

It's also likely that Steve got word of his little slip and gave him a call saying something like: "Just because I let you buy the coffee Walt... doesn't mean you can repeat what I told you in confidence!"

Either way, we'll be seeing 2G in 60 days... imo

Ah well, at least the discussion up until the last article link was interesting. As a Brit with a K800i I have to say that I'm really impressed with the 3G network and one of the reasons i didn't upgrade to an iPhone stat on release was because of my concerns about wifi coverage in the UK. I don't follow the technology industry with an eagle eye and I would have been surprised if Apple had managed to solve the power limitations which kept 3G off the original iPhone so quickly. Plus I'd have thought a revised iPhone would need a bit more than 3G to be worth a relaunch and the attendant clamour about owners needing to upgrade - 2nd camera and things are surely likely.

Both Jobs and the CEO of AT&T have said the iPhone will go 3G this year - I believe in the third quarter. So most people are thinking June, around the time of WWDC and the one year anniversary. Walt's original statement was more of a confirmation than a revelation. His retraction was ... well, less convincing.

what about his voice not changing at all? i think the simple explanation is that the person filming it realized he was about to say something important and got excited while zooming in.

And.... turned out it was ~90 days and not the 60 that he "swore" it would be.
