Yeah, this is also at Gizmodo: http://gizmodo.com/376519/walt-says-3g-iphone-coming-in-60-days

"Walt Mossberg has confirmed what AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega already hinted at CTIA: the iPhone will be 3G-capable "in 60 days." Mossberg said it 6:53 into this Beet.tv feature. Knowing that it's going to be one year after release, what De la Vega said, and the fact that Walt gets his mitts on the goods way before anyone else, it's only logical to think he is right. We will discover it around June 4."

Exciting stuff, I am praying this dude is right. Sounds like a WWDC release.

he said very specifically something about flash on iphone as well, hmm... what was it?? oh yeah, it was " plug-in for Adobe’s Flash ... within the next couple of months." And that was July, last year.

i'm not convinced.

Well, AT&T CEO confirmed 3G, and Steve Jobs has said 3G is coming (although he never gave a date aside from "2008").

As far as Flash, Jobs pretty much denounced it, which he has not done with regards to 3G.

Looks like uncle Walt has let slip a possible early June release-WWDC?

I wonder after this slip up he will get the :apple: goodies early before anyone else like he normally does;)

it's long way to go before 2008 is gone... 3g iphone will of course come, but it will be more like august-september.

it seems that walt is carefull not to make statements that would reveal any confidental information he might have obtained from apple. what he does, however, is make educated guesses, and he doesn't seem to be any better in making those than anyone else following the rumor mill.

so i think he's basing his statement on the same analysts (gene "45m iphones in 2009" munster) and rumors ("black backside of 3g iphone") that has been circulating around here for a while now.

in other words: this is not a "leak" and there's not much new information either.

Not trully convinced. In a way I want this to be true, but then I'll really want it, and I don't know if I'll be able to afford it. There's no way I am selling my 1G phone. Oh well. When it comes, it comes. If Walt is right, cheers, looking forward. The later it comes out, the more chance I'll be able to buy it! Seriously though, can not wait to see the new iPhone, really looking forward to FW 2.0. If they new iPhone has like, a 5MP camera, or better, I'd buy right away, 3G is not as important to me as I use wifi most of the time, and EDGE isn't as horrible as everyone says. And yes, i know its a phone, and if I want a real camera, i should just buy a DSLR (which I want to), but I'd rather have an iPhone and as I love taking pictures with myPhone...I just got back from taking over 400 pictures with my phone, and they look great. This kind of turned into a rant so I'll just finish it now...:D:apple::apple:

Mossberg: 3G iPhone In 60 Days

9to5Mac points out that Walt Mossberg may have confirmed the release timeframe, expected to be in June. In an online video (about 6:50 in), Mossberg casually but confidently says that the iPhone will be 3G in 60 days.

It is unknown whether Mossberg made the claim using additional knowledge or simply from circulating rumors, however his closeness to Apple and Steve Jobs shouldn't be overlooked.

The video as a whole is very interesting, too. I agree with him that the state of "broadband" internet in the US is pitiful at best, especially compared to other developed nations like Japan and Finland. The fact that the US is the centre for much of the content that is distributed over the Internet doesn't help, either.

He's the head technology columnist for the WSJ. I would characterize him as an :apple: supporter and close to :apple:'s senior leadership (e.g, Steve Jobs).

when he was talking about 3g he still said it would be slow...especially compared to europe...why should I buy 3g then??? damn I was looking so forward to it, if it's just going to be 1 step faster than edge, than what is the point?

oh and I'm a geek too!!! I have 1 of my laptops connected to my tv 24/7
