Well... I finally broke down and bought Geometry Wars this morning. I haven't played it very much yet ( had to go to work - responsibilities, right?! ), but I can say it is by far the most dazzling looking game yet on my iPad.

So far I have:

N.O.V.A. HD
NFS Shift
X-Plane
Star Walk
Scrabble
Geometry Wars

Of those, GW is the clear winner in the looks department. Not sure about game play yet as I haven't had much of a chance, but it is quite stunning to look at.

I also have to throw props at Star Walk for just being a cool app!

If you have any problems with the gameplay in GeoWars, try tweaking the sensitivity - I think I put mine around 10, which I saw recommended in another thread.

My only gripe about the game is the placement of the bomb button. But it is a beautiful and fun game.

I don't know if anyone else would consider it gorgeous or tons of fun, but I've been enjoying the Bruce Lee fighting game. The controls are actually pretty easy and I was impressed with the graphics, especially because there's absolutely zero lag or glitches.

I've also had a blast playing FieldRunners (on easy), but the medium setting kept kicking my butt so I got frustrated and quit.

Geometry Wars are still blowing all of my other games away in the "looks gorgeous" department and was just curious if I am missing any new ones...

I bought a ton of games. I never had a iPhone before.

The ones I'm playing the most are:

Angry Birds HD - I even got my uncle to buy this game for his iPod Touch. Addicting physics-based game of throwing birds at angry evil grining pigs.

Azkend HD - I like puzzle/tetris type games and this one is really polished with beautiful art. Very addicting too.

Pinball HD - Some nice 3D in this Pinball game with a nice zoom feature. I hope to see more boards in the future. I'd love to see a Metroid Pinball clone on the iPad some day too!

Doodle Blaster - I was surprised by this game. The doodle art fooled me but it is a very intense shooter game. I use all my fingers and it's amazing how many projectiles can be launched on the screen.

Zenbound 2 - very beautiful puzzle game.

Eyewitness Guardian - someone already mentioned this and, rightly so. This is not a game, more like a news app that only shows pictures, but the pics are amazing. I show this to people not interested in games as the photos really show off the beauty of the iPad screen.

Starwalk - this version for the iPad is another app that gets amazement from people. I turn this app on, tell them to hold the iPad in both hands and move it around their head. Works best at night of course, but the ability to show the night sky with constellations that matches your current point of view is pretty amazing use of technology.

I still think 2d games are better looking than 3d and because of that i say iBlast Moki HD is the best looking game and only 99cents.

Seeing that it's becoming more and more comprised of unhelpful, catty pointscorers like you, I wonder the same.

People like you are the reason I hardly delve into these forums

Go back a couple of years, and this used to be such a nice place...

Have to say I agree. It seems that 20% of the posts are people complaining about what and why people are posting. It's becoming a real peeve of mine. I can't understand why they don't just move on silently. Everyone has different motivations for their posts. Nasty comments just make the poster feel bad; I can't understand why someone would want to do that. It's not junior high school here - or IS it?

We need a simple term denigrating jr high type posts (kind of like +1) so we can make a quick insult without hijacking the thread.

PS Great thread otherwise, finding lots of games that I might buy. Does anyone like We Rule or Castlevania?

I also agree 100% Scott and you make good points. Some people on here post snarky sarcastic comments that don't really contribute and smack of mean spiritness. It's childish and irritating. Some have a bit of an ego since several people will always respond to them and suppose this makes them carry on with their jr high posts. It almost does feel like school, Kindergarten at times lol. I am guilty of making lame comments myself but some make them I notice nearly every single time. I've learned to just pass right on by those particular members posts.

That "Compile" mofo is always saying that crap. He criticizes the reason for a thread or post then says, "sometimes I wonder why I keep coming back to these forums". Gimme a freakin' break! One of the worst trolls I've seen around here. I see he's in "time out". No wonder. What the hell is he trying to prove? That he's a snooty thread connoisseur? Ugh! Lame.

EDIT: I know, I'm only contributing to the problem. Sorry.

My faves:
Plants vs zombies - perfect iPad gameplay
Let's golf
Angry birds
Ispy - pages of live webcams
Guitar - play guitar on iPad, includes buttons to change chords quickly and has some classic guitar tunes ready compiled
Moonlight mahjong - good looking and slick manipulation of 3d views
Sneezies - simple fun gameplay to impress youngsters for when you've run out of adults to show off your iPad :)

I don't know about gorgeous, but I just bought Strategery yesterday for $.99 (universal) and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I've been putting off buying geometry wars for the same reason ($10), but I think for sure now I will definitly give it a try.

My favorites:
Plants vs zombies (9.99)
Tap Tap Radiation (free)
Glow Burst (free)
Pinball HD (2.99)
Real Racing HD (9.99)
Strategery (.99)

And not a game, but really fun app: Star Walk (4.99)

I want to add Galcon Fusion to my list. I picked that up today and it's a great action-strategy game, like the Homeworld meets Risk.

I recommend it. Galcon Fusion is the iPad version. If you want to see what the game is like, you can try Galcon lite, the iPhone version. That's what I did and after 10 minutes, I knew I had to buy it.

I'm going to check out a few of the apps mentioned here, I just wish people hadn't recommended Real Racing as I thought it was terrible :p

Besides what everyone else has posted, give Marble Mixer a try. It's as pretty as a marble game can be and is a blast with 4 players.

It also looks like it's on sale for $1.99 right now.

I tried Tap Tap Revenge... it looked pretty good, but was kinda boring... :)

If they add one more pad, it could be DANCE, DANCE REVOLUTION - FINGER EDITION.

I actually like the game, but its buggy at the moment. It is a very visually appealing game.

On a non visual game experience, I am really enjoying "words with friends HD". it is not a game you sit down and play straight through, however, you play one move at a time throughout the day.

Without a doubt Plants vs Zombies has been my best purchase. In fact I can't seem to get my girlfriend to stop playing it now. Replay value is enormous with all the unlockabkes as well as the mini games and endless modes.

Buy it!

I don't think it looks particularly good, but I'm finding Dungeon Hunter pretty fun so far. Basically just a Diablo clone, but still fun if you like hack n slash crawlers...

I just have the free iphone version on my ipad right now, I quite like it though so will probably buy the HD version :)

Are Geometry Wars and Plants vs Zombies good pick up and play games?

Looking for great games that are still fun/engaging during intervals - without having to spend a lot of time at once.

Perfect....well, I can only really speak for Geo Wars on the iPad. Most of the game types are only a few minutes per game. Putting it down is the hard part.

I like:

We Rule
Warpgate
Modern Combat Sandstorm

I also play Space Miner at 2x and it looks decent.
