It's about time Apple told me when I need to go to bed as well. 9pm? 10? 11? How am I meant to know? And what should I eat? And how much? Come on Apple. And what about Android users. Are they on a different diet plan to me? And who tells them what gym to go to? My friend, Nigel says that all the posts on this forum are written by the moderators. If that's the case then was this.post written by them as well? Isn't life confusing when you can't think for yourself? I dunno that either Siri won't tell me. Apple. Can you help? o_O

This is clearly a "take a walk with mom on her day" incentive, not a weight loss program. Not to mention that many people's mom's would have trouble going a full mile in the USA if they're over 60.....

my mom is 68yrs old and she'd have no problems walking a mile. She's part of a cycling club still...

perhaps if people exercise more often then when they are in their 60s they'd be more able to be active as well.

As it has become a norm for every articles' comments on MR, hope there wouldn't be any disgruntled coming here crying out loud their frustration of Apple not doing much in 'Mac' area.

I don't have an Apple Watch yet, but I'll probably go on a walk with my mom regardless.

Canadians have mothers? Wow, learn something new every day.
I'm as shocked as you. I thought they were all born from Moose and Maple Trees or something.

Nice strawman. Apple isn't telling you how to live. Some people choose to buy Apple Watches. I decided to buy one without anyone holding a gun to my head, because I determined that it would be helpful to me. By your logic, nobody should have an alarm clock, they should just self-reliantly wake up at the predetermined time. Do you have any appointments in the calendar on your phone? Why can't you remember on your own to go to those places at those times? Did you arrive at the MacRumors website by typing its IP address into a browser, or did you rely on DNS to look up the name "macrumors.com" and translate it to the required IP address? Have any contacts on your phone? How come you don't just remember all those phone numbers? Can't you think for yourself?

And just when I thought Americans understood the concept of irony....this happened. Oh well. ;)

It's probably easier to incentivize people to move than it is not to order a sugary beverage. In fact, with all of the mobile ordering apps available, it couldn't be easier to consume.
I will do the mile in memory of my mother, who died in December.

what happened to your mom?

why not run a marathon in memory of your mom?

A mile is nothing.

Yes that's true, but that's not going to change the past 30+ years of Americans being mass marketing crap we call "food".

If this motivates people to move, that's a good thing. I don't get why people is criticizing such a thing.

I purchased the AW last year. Honestly, I wasn't sure I would like it, and I am not crazy about the design. But it has help me to work out harder and achieve better goals and physical shape. I am an avid swimmer, and since getting the AW, I have been way more consistent, and I like the data and challenges to keep me moving even on days that I rather stay in bed. So it has been a great experience.
I miss my Omega watch, and I wished Apple had a band with the workout features of AW so I could keep using my Omega for most of the day but I guess you can't always get what you want.

I think it's embarrassing that corporations have to craft statements like this out of fear of offending a group that probably wouldn't (or shouldn't) be offended in the first place.

You call it "inclusivity" I'll call it "socially induced over-sensitivity."

I call it "consistency". Apple is usually the first out the gate when it comes to accessibility issues. And here's one for you: when they do their Apple Watch testing, they use able-bodied people as well as those in wheelchairs, to ensure that the watch activity measurements are correct. They're putting their money where their mouths are - something not true of organizations that only pay lip service to those unable to walk/see/hear properly.

I think your snark is unwarranted.

A mile is nothing.

That is very true. I run only on a treadmill (about 5 miles) and walk (about 4 miles) several times a week, so a marathon would be an whole other animal entirely. :) Although doing a marathon would be apt, since my mom ran several marathons when she was in her forties (I'm 47, so age is a factor here).

She battled ARVD for over a decade and her condition finally got so bad last April/May that she received a heart transplant at Duke. She was walking on the second day after surgery and for five months, had a new life. Then last October she had a massive stroke and never recovered. :-(

She was an amazing woman and nurse who worked around the world to save lives. We've set up a memorial fund in her name that the the family intends to convert to a nursing scholarship soon:

Great, hopefully people get out and burn some calories. I can't imagine how this could a bad thing.

Burning calories in the body heats up the surrounding air, faster and deeper breathing releases way more CO2 than doing nothing and acidic sweat is poisoning the environment. You're also wearing out your sports gear so little kids in sweat shops have to make more shoes and sports bras to keep up with demand.
