Sorry but Google hasn't done jack to contribute to Apple's success and they certainly have never done anything positive. All they've ever done is further erode the entire notion of privacy.

Maybe for you, I've always loved google services on the iphone and it is always a large factor for my use. Keep those blinders up though.

People say this is like the iPhone, focusing on user experience vs specs. That's fine, but the mark up on hardware is huge. This phone should have never gone beyond Nexus 4 pricing. They want to be like apple, they are missing some key factors.

Yes Apple iPhones may lack in some specs, HOWEVER you cant buy another device that can access the App Store and iTunes etc. What does Motorola have? I can buy an s4 or htc one that is smooth and access the play store. Google now always listening is coming in just a few months. What is Motorola providing to warrant early 2012 specs for 2013 flagship pricing?

At least with Apple I over pay on specs for access to a whole ecosystem. ;)

Great point here! Agreed.

It isn't even coming with 4.3. If it can't launch with the most recent version of Android, you can't even leverage what edge the nexus 4 has over the moto x... Timely updates.

This is a personal opinion, but I don't like having a non neutral customization on a device I pay $600 for. I get bored of colors wallpapers etc and like to change them. I would rather spend $350 on a nexus 4, and get cases that I can change at anytime. If the back of the moto x could be changed for another backing at anytime, than this phone would be great. As it is, this is nothing more than other phones that release in different colors.

To top it all, if I was to try any particular backing for a long period of time, it would be the wood paneling, which isn't available until later in the year....maybe.

Another point Motorola. If your going to sell a device based on its customization, have the customizations fully available at launch! Is it hard to get right the one thing you assert is awesome about this phone?

----------

I should also add, a htc one or s4 with a neon pink case has great resale value when the case is removed. A moto x with a neon pink perm backing is probably not gonna sell well. ;)

Moto X not coming to Europe.

Well, guess that leaves Asia out of the question too. :(

Wow, another nail in the Moto X coffin. What the hell is Motorola/Google thinking? Only thing that comes to mind is they're not ready to support a more robust launch yet pushing it back risks irrelevancy against other upcoming producs, especially the next iPhone.

Moto/Google is really screwing up what could have been a spectacular success if they would have done it properly. I amazed how a company as successful and innovative as Google is continues to fail so miserable with their hardware. Thought they finally were catching on with the recent Nexus 7 release. Way to follow it up with this. :(

The Moto X would be a tremendous value if it wasn't priced so steeply.

The problem with having a year or so old processor is although it may be optimized to run smooth NOW. It cannot be made future proof. We do not know the demands on hardware android 5.0 or 5.1(whatever version number) may have on hardware. Motorola does not have any control over the developmental process of android not the apps coming over the next two years that will require quad core processing.

Apple is able to provide a smooth experience for 2 years because they optimize ios for older devices and more importantly control the releases of apps in the App Store. You know with an iPhone 5 you won't have a problem for at least 2 years. I can't say the same for moto x. There goes another selling point.

The price doesn't match the hardware. This phone could have been made exactly in its current form in 2012 as a flagship. Sorry Motorola couldn't get their development done in time, but don't expect consumers to pay the price.

I am excited for the voice technology that Google is developing along with the hardware to support it. Imagine the Moto X on your coffee table and you can control your TV with it? Matbe even the web apps on your smart TV?
I think this could be just the beginning.....

It's not as cool as you would think. Xbox and kinect do that now and after a while, you rather just use a controller. Talking to your tv doesn't work well when something is playing and it can be frustrating when it misunderstands you.

The moto x is missing an ir blaster so that will never happen. But you know what phone has just as good battery life, a history of software support and double the processing power WITH an IR blaster for the same price as a moto x? Htc one/S4. ;)

Those are great points...but just because MS did it one way with the Xbox doesn't mean Google might not do it better with their technology. This tech is still evolving. Google has put a separate processor in the phone just to handle the voice commands. thye might not get it right this time around but if it keeps evolving? I would love to have a phone that i could control with my voice to do all the normal phone and PDA stuff. Plus beable to control other devices? Big deal breaker in that space. If the voice technology works as the demo videos show....imagine driving in your car and you need directions and can just command your phone to get driving directiosn without have to touch it?

Any added feature is a great one! It's great what Motorola has done here, but since it isn't coming from the designers in Google, I have to see the battery life from real use first.

I LOVE using my devices as a remote. I use my iPad and iPhone as remotes for my LG smart tv everyday. However, the voice driven control is going to be limited. The reason being is that you need a quiet area for the device to actually hear you. For example your watching a loud movie and want to turn it down. Or in my case you have kids. It's never quiet at my house. Ever try and use Siri with the radio on? It's bad.

The technology would need to advance to a point of fully recognizing a individuals voice.

What does Motorola have?

Always on voice assistant
A commitment to 24 hour battery life
Active display notifications
Ability to customize the looks of your device
Near stock android experience
10mp camera that lets in 75% more light than other 13mp ones
Assembled in U.S.A.

I agree......I want to see what the real world experinces are first with battery life. But it would be awesome to have the voice technolgy evolve to recognize individual voice patterns and only respond to those it is trained to take commands from. Then you could use it in a crowded noisy room and to would respond only to your voice......the info page for the Moto X says it is going to learn the users voice and respond to only the users voice......but we will see how well that actually works! :)

Always on voice assistant- Coming to other devices soon enough.
A commitment to 24 hour battery life- So does other phones. My iPhone 5. Will also have to see reviews to prove this as fact.
Active display notifications- The point of notifications is to not have to look at your screen. Notification light is superior. Play store alternative for AMOLED devices as well.
Ability to customize the looks of your device- Resale value? Cases?
Near stock android experience- Nexus 4-5? Roms. No guarantee of updates like a nexus device.
10mp camera that lets in 75% more light than other 13mp ones- yeah and the htc one camera was supposed to be awesome too. Gotta wait for reviews.
Assembled in U.S.A.- Supported where? How long will you be without your phone while you wait for your customized phone to be replaced?

That's what the voice recognition does. After you set it up, it only listens to your voice.

Wasn't impressed with the Moto X, but this video peaked my interest a little bit.

I don't think it's that old. It's literally the Nexus 4 chipset with 2 less cores and the Snapdragon 600 isn't whole a lot different too.

Same processor as the htc one x which was replaced by one x+ which was replaced by the htc one.

It's not a bad processor, but it's a year old. Meaning in sept 2015 you will be working with a 3 year old processor. I could see Motorola easily using it as an excuse to not push android 5.1( or whatever they call it) to it. It would be like buying a htc one x right now on a two year contract for $200. By the way the htc one x retails for $300 new right now. :)

So I heard they would will be doing the google edition after release. My question is this think is so optimized for the software that is has out of the box, and it having that duel core will it be any good as a google edition? Will it be able to handle everything?

So no Google edition until after august. Lame.

There is no basis to believe that. If anything the best is to look at the past. The two Google edition phones lost a lot of features. It helps differentiate the models.

The HTC One GPe Android 4.3 update reintroduces the IR blaster functionality. ;)
