It's 200 bucks. No contract. That more than makes up for the camera. The battery life is fine for people who don't use it every second of the day. And the screen is very nice color saturation was fixed in 4.2.2 and 4.3 made the device even better.

Battery life is fine? is that a joke?

What's so wrong with a contract? Are you afraid of commitment? I would pay $99 and get a GS4/One on contract for 2 years any day of the week.

And spend 2-3 times as much on your plan than if I go prepaid, something I wouldn't be able to do on contract. But my needs are my needs, your needs are your needs lol arguing this is quite pointless.

Been using the Moto X for almost a week so far it's been pretty positive. Let me also say been a long time iPhone user and also own an iPhone 5. I can't say that the Moto X is better than my iPhone 5 just different. I do think the camera isn't as good as my iPhone. But other then that the android experience on here (being that it's stock android or as close to it,main reason I got it as I hate crapwear and how laggy a lot of android phones can be) is pretty good. It's smooth no stutter responsive and Google Now seems to work better then siri. Don't really like the keyboard and feel that the iPhone keyboard is a bit more accurate. Find myself either having to type slower or edit what I type on the Moto X way more then I had to on the iPhone. Also I don't like the way the wallpaper set up is on the Moto X much prefer the iPhone. Finding it tough to find wallpaper that has a high enough resolution to look good. Also I can't seem to figure out how to delete all the blank home screen pages. I like on the iPhone that the blank pages don't show but can be added when needed maybe someone has an answer to that. Tried Googling it and no real answers. Other then a few minor things like that I do like the Moto X and if I was making a recommendation would recommend this phone.

I think the overall package looks great, the only phone that seems like enough of what I’m looking for (size, build, design, battery, cool features like active notifications) to move from the iPhone.

I’ve been an iPhone user for four years. I ordered a Moto X last night. I’m excited to give Android a shot.

I'll add photos and my thoughts when it arrives in a week.

I feel you in the same boat. Read my post above.

Probably has more to do with your familiar of the iOS keyboard layout but I will agree that it does seem to be a bit more forgiving. That being said, there are tons of great alternate keyboard options on Android that offer tons more functionality. I'm a big fan of Swiftkey--costs a few bucks but so worth it. It has tons of long-press options and its predictive text is amazing, especially after using it for a while as it learns from your typing style. I often can nearly type entire sentences just using the words predicted by the software.

With stock Android, unfortunately you cannot remove home screens. What you should try though is a launcher--some of the most popular are Nova, Apex, Go but there are so many more. They essentially act like home screen skins, allowing you to customize so many things (number of home screens, icon layout and themes, dock, animations, for starters) but also add lots of functionality. Nova is probably the most popular and is currently my launcher of choice.

Thanks for the info. Yes people keep telling me to use a launcher of some sort I just find it hard to believe that Google wouldn't just put that into the base functionality I just don't like the idea of using a skin and have it not work right or slow the phone down. Just wondering if that's not true. When I had a jailbroken iPhone totally moded I understood that it might run slower and I was OK with that.

Moto X came today. 5 days early! Motorola overnighted it. Now, that is awesome of them.

So far, my experience has been very positive. I'm going into this experiment as a veteran iPhone user who is open to some change. I found myself really interested in the Moto X, in general, and that interest is getting even greater as I use the phone.

Battery life on the first charge was stunning. The Moto X is at 6% after 7hrs 32m of very intense, heavy usage on battery (first charge). Navigation, streaming over LTE, tons of stuff.

I really NEVER use my phone like this (I got lost, seriously, it was messy). But what can I say? The Moto X really held up. My 4S would never last such a long time, even with my regular usage. I can see, with regular usage, actually hitting the said 24-hour mark with ease.

Active notifications and the way that Android handles notifications in general is lightyears ahead of iOS, even OS 7. That's a shame, really, because notifications really are what smartphones are all about, in a way.

A lot of UI elements of Android are very foreign to me, and many times feel old fashion. That's probably just because of how used to the iPhone I am.

Anyways, I'm gonna spend a week (or much more, we'll see) with the phone and I'll be writing a blog post about the whole thing within the next month on my site (in my sig).

Should be fun. :D

I don't see why anyone would buy this phone over the Nexus 4.

Both have the same 720p 4.7 screen (IPS wins over Amoled for me)
The Moto X has a better screen hands down, and it isn't just because of Amoled vs IPS.

same CPU (GPU also?)
No and No. The X8 system is completely different than the single processor in the Nexus 4. Also, they do NOT have the same gpu. The X has a more powerful GPU, with the Adreno 320 (same gpu as the GS4).

similar battery life
In a word, NO. The X has distinctly better battery life. As someone that has both phones, I can say there is definitely a difference in the battery life between these two phones.

same 2GB RAM, etc.
But the N4 does not have: Active Notifications, Assist, Touchless Control, Motorola Connect, safe zones, lte (without hacking the device), etc.

The skin's I've used don't slow down the phone at all. Go ahead and try some--they install from the play store just like any other app and even better, if you don't like it, uninstall just as easily.

The launcher will not effect performance. You can change number of home screens, the grid size, icon size, dock settings, app drawer settings. It really is worh getting nova prime.

Wood looks awesome!

And so many of us called it. Price drop was imminent

Yep. Especially considering most of us thought it was overpriced to begin with.

----------

if I have a choice between getting what I want on day one, or waiting 1 month+ just to save $100...I'll take it day one. $100 isn't much money, and my time is worth much more. That month+ of enjoyment is worth more than $100.

I get that. But if you ask most people if they'd rather have paid HALF as much for a phone, I think we know what the answer would be.

I think the best part about this price drop in the future is that used prices will drop significantly too. I wouldn't mind getting one for cheap on CL.

I really want the wood though. :(

It depends on the type of person you're talking to. If you're talking to a cheap person, then sure they'd wait a month+ just to save $100. If you asked a person that isn't cheap or hard up for $100, if they'd rather get what they want when they want it, or have to wait an unknown amount of time (a minimum of a month+) just for $100, they'd choose to get what they want.

A $100 price drop won't change the prices on CL. I've been selling on CL for years, and the thing that drives down the value of a phone the most is time. A change in the contract price doesn't really drive down prices. With carriers now having blacklists (GSM ones included), the prices of phones are a little slower to fall, because now the stolen phones aren't worth the same as a legit phone. That said, a contract price drop will likely have little impact on the prices on the secondary market.

The nexus 4 has the adreno 320 as well.

Thats why I bought mine at full retail of $580. I returned it yesterday....my friend at the AT&t store waived the restocking fee....so it was still great to try the MotoX for a week anyway. I will stick to my S4.....for now.....

Impressions? What did u think of it?

Moto X - Designed by you. Assembled in the USA.

If the price drop of $100 on contract is true, what do people think will be the new "full retail" price?

I checked AT&T's website and phones selling for $99 on contract generally have a full retail price of $430 to $460. If the Moto X can eventually be bought for this price, I think there will be a big bump in sales.

I have written a ton of posts here in this thread.....i loved the phone. It was every bit as fast as my S4. But in the end it just could not replace my S4. The voice software works.....almost as advertised but not quite. The fact that I paid $580 off contract for it did not help.

What was better about the s4 that made you not want to keep the moto x?

Camera......physical home button....SD card.....
But is was very close........I love the always on voice software. It works great! Even in my car with he radio on it would get directions for me. The battery last the 24 hours as advertised....same as my S4.
I don't see a lot of Devs getting behind the MX. There just isn't a lot of movement around getting it unlocked and the US versions boot loader unlocked and rooted. I think with the right Dev...the MX could really shine with tweaked roms......
If the off contract price goes down I might be temped to get one to have as an extra device....

I do miss the micro SD card from my S4. I'm not a huge camera user so the moto x is good enough for me. I love the feel of the phone in the hand and that they fit a 4.7" screen in such a small package. What I'm not happy about is how moto loves making their phones so dev unfriendly. I love trying new roms and kernels and I'm thinking that will be hard with this phone.
