Good comparison video of the MX vs the One:

In short, I'm almost 99% certain I'm passing on the MX. The camera comparison portion really just turned me off (around the 6 min mark). If the MX's camera is even worse than the One's already poor camera, then fuhgetaboutit.

EDIT: I should fairly note that that's a comparison to the GPE version of the One, so the camera software was stock Android camera. What are reviews saying about the MX camera versus the Sense software camera of the One?

Nevermind. I originally thought I had a review of the HTC One vs MotoX camera, but it turned out phandroid had the Google Play edition of the HTC One as well.

My bad yo.

I ordered a Moto X because most people were complaining about the camera and that isn't an important part of the phone to me. All I need is good enough and I'm fine with that. Everything else about the Moto X seems great.

I feel the same way. I rarly even take photos and if I do shutter speed is most important to me.

Did you order using the MotoMaker? If so what was the design?

Mine is pretty boring. Black front and back and silver accents. Which is probably the stock black design. I created about a dozen different designs but after everyone I thought will I like this once the newness wears off and how hard will it be to sell? I like black and silver together so I thought overall I would be happier with something simpler.

Hey, whatever works for you! I like black too. When I was playing with the design tool I didn't love any of the colors either and I think you are right about getting sick of if after a few weeks. And then I don't know about you but walking into a business meeting with a lime green phone with purple accents doesn't scream professional to me. Post impressions when it gets delivered if you don't mind.

I certainly will. From the hour or so I've spent with the phone it's been my most enjoyable experience with Android and I've had more Android phones than I can remember.

That was my experience as well. I came away very impressed with just about everything.

Acording to this article the AT&T version that i have comes with a locked bootloader. Which means the developers will most likely not dev roms for this version. The other carriers seems to have a way to unlock the bootloader through Motorola.

I don't think its AT&T specific. The VZW version and such will have a locked boot loader. Its not a big deal. The AT&T S4 was locked. It was broken in like a week. Never underestimate xda

I love the way that this phone manages to pack a 4.7" display in such a small foot print. It would be nice to see more Android OEMs follow in this path.

I like that as well. I don't mind carrying around a Note 2 sized phone but if I can get a big screen in such a small package like the Moto X I'm all for that.

Agreed, I was shocked at how much smaller this phone was compared to the HTC One. The ergonomics are much better here.

Picked up the One on Verizon on Thursday but recently took it back for the Droid Maxx instead. Since the Maxx is just an X in a bigger frame / bigger battery, I figured I'd post here. I LOVE the battery life (3500mAh), will easily get me through a day of even the heaviest use.

The touchless controls are great in the car and when I'm in bed and I want to set an alarm, will probably find more uses for it as I get used to using them and finding out what all I can do with them.

The active notifications are awesome. Way better than the standard blinking LED, you just have to try them to see how useful they are.

Performance is very, very smooth. I love that it's as close to stock android as you can get other than a real nexus / GPE device. This thing performs just as smooth as the One, and even better than the laggy S4 (which I also owned for a couple of months). Don't judge everything by what's on paper, and I think that anyone who actually does their own research will find that even on paper, this phone isn't a slouch just because it doesn't use a traditional quad-core to process EVERYTHING.

The camera, for my uses, it will do just fine. It's not "OMG horrible!" like people might think. Sure, the colors are a little dull compared to others, but if you aren't looking at the two photos side by side, you aren't gonna think these photos look like crap, plus the built in filter/saturation/contrast tools all help bring some more color to the picture if you want to add it after the fact. They will be just fine since I usually am taking pictures outside (on the golf course, by the pool, on the lake, etc.) for FB/Instagram and the pictures look pretty darn good then. In low light I'm not taking many pictures to be honest, maybe just for a BS snapchat/text messages which don't need to be sharp. Even then, this shooter does okay, just not as good as the top-of-the-line cameras in the iP5, GS4, etc.

The Moto X has a lot going for it. I would love the smaller form factor, but for me the battery life on the Maxx is going to make me keep it over the X. However, I've heard good things about the X's battery as well and I think Moto has a real winner here. My 3 previous phones have been the iP5, GS4 and HTC One (granted I only had the One for a couple of days) and I would highly recommend the X or the Maxx to anyone.

Stopped by an AT&T store today, played with it for 15 minutes. I won't presume to provide a detailed review/opinions on such a brief time of use but will offer my first impressions:

- impressed by the physical size/shape. Same size display as my One but significantly smaller. As feels nice in hand, as best can be determined with the security device attached.

- software seems quick and very smooth, every but as much as my One.

- not impressed by the display. The lesser ppi wasn't an issue as it's still sufficiently high but rather the brightness and tones. On full brightness, it was half as bright as my One and and whites were noticeably yellow vs. the bright, cool tone of my One. I was honestly surprised at the difference.

- Not a fan of the woven back at all--dont like the look of it and it appears the white Is a dirt magnet as the display model was already smudged and uneven in color. Considering that's the style being displayed for the Developers Edition, I'd have to go for AT&T branded model so I could customize it.

I loved the size/shape and the near stock OS appeared razor quick. However I was very disappointed in the display, so much so that I doubt I'll be picking up a Moto X after all.

The engadget review mentioned that the textured back picks up dirt extremely easily and can not be cleaned by any means, they tried water, rubbing alcohol, but nothing worked.

I really think I would always go with the black model anyways. So this wouldn't be an issue for me.

I have the black one and it hasn't gotten dirty yet......But it can be cleaned...not sure about the white one the black one can be cleaned.

I absolutely love this phone. It'll be my daily driver until something knocks that crown (was formerly the iPhone 5, which lost to the Galaxy S4, and now.. the S4 has lost to the Moto X).

Thoughts so far....

The Moto X is fast very smooth and feels so right. It is every bit as fast as my S4. There is no lag no hesitation at all. My S4 might have better specs but you would not know it by comparing the performance of the 2 phones.

The camera is not as good as the S4......not as clear and colors do not pop. Hopefully this can be fixed with a software update.....maybe.

The screen resolution seems fine to me...no difference from my S4.

Active notifications are fantastic. They work as intended...they can show what you have and then keep showing you. So you know exactly what it was...text, email, FB, voice or what ever app you want. It is so good...if the phone is sitting next to you on the sofa and it is moved at all....it will show the active notification for a brief second. You can touch the screen and preview the the text or email or unlock the screen by swiping up and go straight to the text or email. Very nice. You can see what the email or text without unlocking the screen.

The battery lasts easily 24 hours. I have been playing around with it (new toy!) with 5.3 hours of screen time and it is at 49%. It has been off the charger since 6 this morning.
The Touchless Control (voice activation) software works great! It will recognize my voice even in a noisy room with the football game on. It will recognize my voice even while it is playing music! It will recognize my voice from 12 to 15 feet away! Nice! It will compose texts and emails and make phone calls easily with out touching it. So far for me it has been hit or miss for me to get it to send the email or text.....for some reason i can't get it to do that yet. I have to play around with the right voice commands and will report back......

The next phone I upgrade to (from my HTC One) will have a splendid camera.

Therefore, this will be a pass for me. Nice impressions, though.

I feel like the s4 was the first phone to really do this. It feels so much smaller in hand than a traditional 5" phone.
