As much as I love my htc one after selling my 5S, I would pick up the motox if it came to the uk in a heartbeat. Absolutely loving android.

from a phone purchasing decision, i think selling the htc one was the biggest mistake i made all year. i loved the camera in low light, and it had great speakers (the nexus 5's in comparison is just shameful), a beautiful display and—being a t-mobile subscriber—wifi calling/texting. i really miss that phone. :(

still, i can't help but feel a little drawn to the moto x. i love that it's mostly stock android. i love the notifications and active display, as well as the always on voice search/control. if it only had wifi calling, it'd be a no brainer.

Hmm, good point; I hadn't even thought of that. I could always just get used to the Note 3's button layout, it's not like I ever had any problems with the buttons on my S4 and they're the same as the Note's. One of the other things holding me back on the Note 3 is the price. I'm buying off-contract, so I'd be paying $499 for the Maxx vs. $699 for the Note 3. That's a huge difference that I'd have to decide whether or not it's worth the extra $200.

The Maxx has (IMO) better build quality, better battery life, significantly better UI, and features that are actually useful (touchless control, active display). The Note 3 has a much better display (in terms of size, resolution, and colors) and camera, but other than that I can't think of other features that come with the phone that I'd be using. That better display and camera, however, are HUGELY important things that I need to take into account. I don't take pictures often, but when I do, I want them to come out good. The display is also beautiful on the Note 3. It's huge and very bright; everything just look incredible on it, and while my mind is telling I love it, my hands are still iffy about it.

I also paid full retail for my Note but it's worth it to me. Like I said, the software customization is just endless. For example, the gallery. Not only can you easily create new albums but you can create a slideshow, collage, story album or video clip. You can also select pics to hide in an album so only you can see them. Then you can customize each individual pic in so many ways. Everything from photo frames and signatures to writing notes on the backs of the pic Polaroid style. The gallery in most other phones won't even let you create a new album much less the level of customization on the Note. That's just one example of how much you can do.

I love having a menu/settings button because I always know where it is. It's in different places in different apps that need it onscreen. I mean Go SMS wouldn't even work on the Maxx because the Settings button was under the keyboard where the space bar should have been which was very annoying and made it unusable because there was no space bar. It all depends on what you like and what feels good to you though

Screw it, I decided on the Note 3. Gonna order it in a few minutes from Amazon. If I don't like it I'll return it. No harm, no foul.

Edit: LOL WAIT WHAT?!?!?!?! Just placed my order on Amazon, but wasn't charged for it.. like at all. LOL look at the screenshot!

If it ships and I don't get charged it looks like the Note 3 is gonna be my new phone. Note 3 for free and I get a refund on the $585 I paid for my Moto X, it's like an early Christmas present. I'll post back if I get a shipping notice. Expected delivery is Tuesday since the order was placed on a Sunday, so we'll see.

Great for you. That would never happen to me. Not sure how that happens but you scored if they dont fix it.

Wow, it actually shipped and I still haven't been charged. Dunno what happened on their end, but I'm not complaining. This is the kinda stuff I hear about on the internet, but never actually happens to me. Either way, I'm excited to finally be able to test out this phone and use it as a daily driver.

Is there any reason to believe that the Moto X could be released in places outside of the US. I'd love to get my hands on this phone where the LTE actually works outside of the US. I ordered a Nexus 5, but can't help but feel it's inferior to the Moto X in terms of innovation and real world use.

I was under the impression that the Moto X does work on European networks, you'll just need to get one shipped over there as Motorola isn't shipping outside of the states.

Took delivery of the Note 3 today and have had it for about two hours and I can already tell that it's way too big for me. Been using it for the past 45 minutes setting it up and stuff and my hand is already hurting and I have to hold the phone in weird ways just to keep it from slipping. So far I'm not impressed with the battery. It was at 56% out of the box and I downloaded a few apps, maybe 10 or so, and thats it. Two hours later I just set it up after downloading about 30 apps, answering a few texts, setting up email, etc. I'm now down to 10% battery and brightness hasn't been higher than 30% so far. I think I'm gonna sell it for the Maxx as that phone seems to fit my uses more than the Note 3. Great phone, just not for me.

Ok, well not to be rude but its pretty apparent you don't know much about phones if you are judging its battery life off how it was shipped  It takes these batteries 2-3 full charge cycles to hit maximum performance. Besides, you can always swap in a new battery. Something you can't do on the Maxx, you are also stuck with 32GB of storage, no SD card slot on the Maxx. The size however is personal preference. I found the Maxx was more comfortable to hold because it seemed to way more and was thicker than the Note. If you got it free and don't want it, sell it!

I'm aware it can take a few charge cycles for a battery to perform at its best, but out of the dozens of phones I've owned over the last two years NONE have drained that quickly. Even the Moto X that I got last week only lost 20% or so after doing a full setup. The fact that the Note 3 lost over 40% in the same period was shocking, in my opinion. Personally, SD card slots aren't a big deal for me and 32GB of on-board storage is more than enough, so that's not an issue. Same goes for battery, I don't care for removable ones. I do plan on selling it of course, I said that in my previous post, but I'm still going to wait a few more days to see how I like it. Gotta give it a fair chance, my hands might get used to it after a few days. :)

As I said, I'm still going to give it a few days; I was just posting my initial impressions. So far the phone is great, some things just shocked me after using it for a bit. I still like the phone, it's just... different lol.

So you did end up getting it for free?

Yes, I did. Don't really know what went wrong on their end, but I'm not gonna complain.

Well I can assure you the Note has WAY better battery life than the Moto x, it's not even close.

Isn't long press of the recent apps button the menu key in the maxx.

You can turn this on in settings under display.

I plan on giving this phone a fair chance, so I'm definitely going to give it more than just a few hours, don't worry lol. I really do love the screen, though. It's so big and beautiful, it's just that it's SO big... I've never used anything bigger than a 5" phone so this is a big difference. One thing I have noticed, though, is that the camera is... odd. It's the same sensor as the one in the Galaxy S4, yet it takes noticeably worse indoor pictures. I haven't tested outdoor ones yet, but I'd assume those will look fine. The camera will probably be fixed with a software update, though.

I'm hoping Samsung will completely redesign Touchwiz when they upgrade to KitKat... their UI really need some work, even LG has a better UI.

I love the large screen, hard to go back to anything smaller now and mine takes great indoor pics. I also like TW, it has three times the features of any other skin out there. Probably not the phone for you, sell it!

I think you're right, it's just not for me no matter how hard I want it to be. I can't use it for more than 10 mins without my hand straining and honestly I can't see it getting that much better even if I got use too it. This is an awesome phone, no doubt about it, but it pertains to certain people and I just am not one of them. Droid MAXX is up next, I'll probably pick it up tomorrow.

Did you try the one handed operation mode? I use it on occasion but I usually use both hands with my device anyways, so it being larger isn't an issue for me. Try the Maxx before you get rid of the Note, it feels heavier to me and harder to hold in comparison because its thicker and oddly shaped.

Good idea, I'll get the MAXX early in the morning tomorrow. I did try one-handed mode but it didn't feel normal considering it's not the large display that makes holding it difficult for me, it's just how wide the phone itself is. One handed mode simply makes the screen seem smaller, but doesn't do anything about the width. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's the best way I can explain it.

I've been interested in the Moto X since it was announced. I currently have a used iPhone 5 and I'm really considering picking up this phone. I'm wondering if I should even buy it now, or should I wait for the Moto X2 (or is 2x or X squared) to come out.
