My issue with this commercial is that most people won't understand the commercial. It would've been better if they showed more of its features than making fun of "sheeples."

I liked that ad a lot, my favorite one that was not funny at least. I still prefer iPad though.

Got to love how Apple Fanboys come screaming and insulting anything that is not apple. Are some of you that insecure that if someone makes fun of Apple that you have to insult them. I guess you hated the Apple 1984 ad as well since in this case Apple has become more like the IBM of 1984.
In tablet and portable music player Apple is the standard and many people are mindless drones who only do what Apple says. Looks like Apple has some of you all well trained and has removed your ability to think for yourself.

As for the White I still remember a lot of Apple boxes are White and the apple bags from the Apple store are White.

Um- not sure how Apple has become like the IBM of 1984? Is it because they are popular and making truckloads of cash? IBM was more or less a literal Big Brother at that time.... Apple is just selling a ton of devices because the consumer is choosing to do so. They aren't oppressing or giving consumers forced-choices like IBM did back then. But nice try.

And for the comment on Apple drones,etc...dude we're talking about a consumer device that is chosen to be purchased. To even speak of this in a way that reminds one of a communist/dictatorship government that oppresses its people- such as in the book 1984, is just plain ridiculous. Chill out and think before you speak.

Well I will say the bags Apple uses for in their store are fairly reuseable compared to most places that rip in a heart beat. I been using an Apple bag for years now to store my jumper cables and it is not those cheap jumper cables most people use but some fairly heavy duty ones and the bag holds up great.

Yea, I'll say that. Definitely not WalMart bags. Unfortunately all my "big bag" purchases are for other people. All I end up with is the free iPod.

This thing was completely played up by all the tech blogs, I watched and just went "huh, that wasn't really much of anything".

There was no big Apple vs Motorola fight here, just a subtle jab that anyone could easy overlook.

I thought the ad was pretty awful.

It barely displayed the device, and the average person wont have any idea what it's talking about....

Exactly. I was with an older crowd 60-70 for the superbowl at my step fathers. They all saw the commercial and one person said whats that. The other said the new iPad. Then someone said yea from HP? And then nothing else was said.

I am a huge tech guy, so I knew what it was, but the rest of the people in the room thought it was the new iPad. So HP spent all that money for what?

You could say the same about the 1984 Mac ad, although it was more of an uppercut to the Moto ad's tickle on the feet.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time this concept was done. I shot a short film, “Do Not Disconnect” in 2009 with a girl breaking out of a world plugged into headphones. A world with no human interaction.

Since we’re not expecting credit from Motorola, I’m asking people to please take a few minutes to watch how this idea was first done. Decide for yourself if you think this is too similar.

We're not bashing Apple to promote a new product like Motorola. It’s not an ad; it’s a fun, heartfelt short film.

Please check it out. This Xoom ad isn't even original. I have no recourse but message board populism. Please share on social networking sites!

Look at this comparison from the films:

Thank you!

My theory is that they know most regular consumers won't bother with this at $799 so they are going hard after the tech market.

It's a subtle hint: if you're an engineering student, you can attract one of pretty girls in the business&arts programs by showing them your contrarian side with a non-Apple tablet and give them a crudely made animated e-card. I'd say it's not a bad tactic. ;)

Haha you're clearly in dreamland. Engineering students can't even attract the cute girls in engineering little alone anywhere else.

You're all crazy. That ad was really well thought out. Everybody knows Apple is becoming like the 1984 IMB that they made fun of back then, and the Apple customers in the ad were realistically portrayed.

I agree I did not think a lot of the advert.

It should of been one or two things.

Either it should have gone direct for the jugular of Apple, exposed every bad point, what it can't do, show how you are locked to one PC, you can't access web pages with Flash, you can't output to a TV without paying another $100, it only plays back limited video formats etc etc.

Really nail Apple hard, No lies, just honest all the things it can't do, totally honest.

Or, they should have totally focussed on showing off everything that Honeycomb and the Xoom should do, show it running Flash, show it taking high res photo's in a dark room, show it displaying films on your home screen, the quick info on screen from widgets. All the time telling people it's not an iPad it's a new better more powerful product from Motorola.

Either one.

But what they did fell short on both counts. If I was a typical consumer rather that a sad case that reads too much on the subject like most people here ;) Then I'd probably just think it was another iPad advert.

I didn't think it was any worse than the iPad commercials - both being pretty bad.

I did not think the commercial was effective as a commercial. Outside of taking a shot at Apple, there was nothing in the ad to give me any sense of WHY I should buy a Xoom other then "it isn't Apple". A better ad would have focused on what the Xoom does better then the iPad but they really didn't do that.

Indeed.

The obvious one would of been Flash.

==================================

Here we have an iPad and a Xoom, let's look at this web site, oh, its all blank on the iPad. Let's try another one, oh dear that's blank also.

Let's play one of these games, oh, that's odd the iPad can't do it, let's show this animations, of dear, again, the iPad just shows a blank.

" Xoom, the only tablet to give the FULL INTERNET to you "

=================================

Well, at least it would have told people something.

agreed. Honeycomb looks very impressive when side-to-side with iOS.... but they didn't capitalize on that at all...
