apple wount be selling this on there store, will THey? Woudnt that be a big pain to order it from apple then get it activated at a store

Like it or not, Apple needs to get iTunes on phones to maintain their (albeit already dominant) market share.

I just see trouble making its way in to the market however...

We know cell phone companies are on the whole... greedy when charging for services. Ringtones anyone?

We know the record execs are greedy.

Apple for once are playing the lowball card, and charging 99cents a DRMed song. We know the record labels aren't happy with it.

With ringtones going for $4, against the song going for $.99, anyone see any further contract rifts between Apple and the record labels/cellphone carriers in the future? Either the cellphone service does little or nothing, or the iPod dies in lieu of higher song prices or do everything for you cellphone. I can't see the two peacefully co-existing.

GSM phones typically are sold pre-activated. Basically, you put the SIM card in and turn it on, and you get text messaged with your information -- phone number, etc. It's really, really easy and quick. :) If Apple sold it on their site, they would most likely gather activation data and pass it on your behalf to Cingular or whomever, and it would be the same.

What exactly would you like it to look like? You havent even seen one in person and used one, how can you judge it properly?

Can your samsung flip phone play music files in a mobile iTunes application?

Why are you trying to defend what really is a poor, lazy and half-arsed effort on Motorolas part? Just looking at that thing makes my eye lids heavy. So dull, especially when there are phone like this around:

Maybe .isreal is an inheritable property of the phone class's instantiable object? :p

For instance:

appleTabletPC.isreal = FALSE
leopardWillRunOnDell.isreal = VERY FALSE
widescreeniBookBeforeMactel = DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED

:D

I think I get it... like:
stevejobshair.isreal = FLAGRANT SYSTEM ERROR, STARTING CORE DUMP

This CANNOT be the iPhone

If this is the phone that will be released, I predict it's going to be a disaster for Apple. Not only do I seriously doubt it would sell, but it's going to be a major hit to the Apple "Mystique" right on the heels of turning the Mac hardware engine over to the commodity PC market CPU maker (Intel).

Jobs may be attempting to take Apple to the masses, but they are not there yet and need to continue to differentiate with performance, features *and* style if they want to remain relevant, IMO.

All of you that are saying you are hoping and praying for iTunes to come to Verizon, forget about it! I am a Verizon customer and would love to have an iTunes phone but the truth of the matter is that Verizon is rolling out their own Music on Demand service by the end of the month. This is why Verizon has been so strict with disabling OBEX on all of their bluetooth phones, to keep people from transferring their own songs over so that you will have to buy them for $3.99 each from their service.

If you want great service go with Verizon, if you want an awesome selection of phones go with Cingular or T-Mobile.

Who's going to buy T-Mobile? WiFi hotspots galore.

Vodafone is looking to buy T-Mobile

LONDON (Market watch) -- Deutsche Telekom has considered selling T-Mobile USA, which would be valued at $25 billion, The Observer newspaper said Sunday. Vodafone Group would be a leading bidder because of the opportunity to have a 100% control of a U.S. operator. Presently, Vodafone has a minority stake in Verizon Communications' Verizon Wireless; the report said Vodafone would sell the stake to buy T-Mobile USA. T-Mobile executives know they need to fill gaps in European markets, where the firm is weak, the report said.

It's a Motorola phone.

Uuuhh,...(?)
Why is everyone disapointed that this phone is very un-Appleish, in design, looks, UI ?

It's been stated over and over; and over.

This is a M-O-T-O-R-O-L-A cell phone; with iTunes capabilities.

Would you expect your Toyota Corolla to look, roar, smell, feel like a 60's Dodge Charger just because you hung some fuzzy dice from the rear view mirror?

This phone and those to come is just Joe Smo's cell phone that can play music and are too stupid to buy an iPod. Ooooo-Ahhh. It will sell anyways. It's not an Apple phone, it's not the iPhone,.....It's a Motorola phone.

Ohh yeah, I forgot..
Nokia just adopted Apples WebCore for their upcoming cell phones.
This doesnt mean that now Nokia will be the; iPhone.
It means that Apple is smart. You can't beat the cell companies; but you can join them and get your technology recognized with their products.
Then,..later,..
Wham! you come around them and have them take it up the Tradesman entrance with your own; iPhone. Someday..just not today.

my cousins got a black version of that phone, got a brilliant feel to it. nice and rubbery (aka, doesn't slip). i just think its a little odd looking though. and if its the same size as the black one, it'll be kinda big.

iTunes phone pictures perhaps a SCAM?

I am not so sure about this message, has anyone bothered to enlarge the iTunes screen shot, why is it that the entire picture is clear except for where it says " mobile phone update completed, ok to disconnect" ??
It seems to have been (poorly) edited? But I might be wrong, any more oppinions on this? Any pro photo editors arround that can shed some light on the distortions visible?

and I hope it does not come with a stupid damned camera !!! if so, I will just buy for that .

Actually I have to say there is got to be a good market for a top of the line phone w/o a camera. I just can't find one, it does not exist.

i agree that apple vs the cell phone companies is a losing proposition. stepping around them and creating a network of satellite phones is way too far down the line and will have to incorporate convincing people to switch to that technology in order for it to be a success.

Hey id love a iPodPDA,..maybe that's Apples stratagy. iPod as a morphing product? Get the masses hooked on a mp3 player; iPod, morph it to a podcast/mp3 player/sat. radio device; iPod. Morph it to a podcast/mp3 player/sat radio device/Newton. As each of the technologies advances and lays down the gridwork, Apple keeps its brandname/mindshare that no one can match. Apples made their past mistakes of releasing something before its time,..maybe theyve smartened up and know better. Youll get it when its ready, not when im ready for it. But yeah, it want one now.

..but somethings happening. Boeing's July 19 flight of Apples technology "via satellite" is a reality. Steve is up to something, he's making his alliances so it may not be too far down the line, maybe a year?
