While this is true, at least you control when Siri is listening. You don't control when Google is listening. It's potentially a virtual treasure trove for the NSA and other government agencies.

It's my understanding the moto x only listens when you wake it up with the command phrase but I haven't looked into it much. If it was listening and sending that info all the time it would kill the battery and your data plan so highly doubt it's doing this randomly.

Google has the software that enables the "always listening mode" built into Google Glass...meaning that code is part of Android itself. Appears to be a simple boolean.

So that's where we are at.

This is the first android phone that makes me seriously consider switching to android. Hardware an software controlled by google is a big move.

apple also controls hardware and software. so if anything that puts them on equal footing -- not sure why I'd abandon my ecosystem for equal footing? and to an advertising company...

I am _NOT_ defending Samsung or advocating for TouchWiz, but I will say this. Unless you own an S4, like I do, you've got no appreciation for the improvements Samsung has made to TouchWiz. Yes in the beginning it was very poor, but now it's got some very good features.

I will give you the improvements that have come to TouchWiz, they're undoubtable. But I think Motorola is closer to stock, and in my opinion the less frills the better. I understand some people love TouchWiz, however.

Maybe they should change the name of this site for Googlerumors.com. All the cool and exciting news revolves around Google products these days.

Meh.

I'll be impressed after some legit reviews come in concerning it's 24 hour battery life. I don't believe it for a moment.

The "always on" voice prompt seems interesting... to be fair... but it's without a doubt creepy. At least the concept of it is. Again... I'll wait for the reviews.

The fact that it runs stock Android is just... I loathe Android. It's clunky, glued together mobile OS. It's just not intuitive. I dunno... not a fan.

I'm up for an upgrade... I'll wait to see what Apple brings to the table during the fall. I can wait til' Christmas if need be.

Self-entitled Google fanboys. This thing will sell like hot cakes no matter the specs, it freaking comes in all the colors of the rainbow, the average consumer is going to scream over that. Honestly, you're only hurting yourselves by eating the quad core, Tegra crap. I'm embarrassed of being an Android user right now just because of all the negativity. It's going to make going back to an iPhone in October so much easier.

Not sure if this was asked before, if all Moto X phones are activated by someone saying "Ok, Google Now", what happens when you are in a room full of Moto X?

i can wait to how many pranks will be pulled on the users through this active voice feature!

And lets see the battery life!

I wonder what would happen, if someone else instead of you says "OK, Google now"... Should the phone get activated every single time? This is just a fail!

Most people seem to overlook the fact that the problem with Android is that on paper everything looks shiny, but when things come to user experience... that's hell on earth!

when you first set it up, you train it to your voice. the Verge tested it in a noisy crowded room, and they said it worked well.

Lol this is funny. Here on an Apple site, people are giving this phone praise.

But head over to an Android site and people are saying what a disappointment the moto x is. Lol

main reason why android users are disappointed is because of the price on contract.

That's because the phone is not so inspiring. It's really not a sleek or unique phone by any measure compared to HTC, Sony and iPhone 5.

This is why the Android fans are bitching. People posting praises about the phone... Ahem... *cough*

and you know this how? have you had the phone in your hand? have you used it for an extensive amount of time? seeing your posts in just this thread.. you seem to be pretty close minded. why not try it out yourself before you bash on it just because it doesn't have an apple logo on it.

Wow that looks boring and ordinary. Even if I were to stoop down to get an android I wouldn't even notice that in the store.

I easily get 24 hours with marginal use on my Razr HD.
The X along with the new Razr variants should get better power.
This includes a few calls, some games, some streaming, some GPS and some web lookups.
I get the even better on my iphone using for a few calls but lots of browsing after about 14 hours I usually have aboit 70 % battery life left.

what do you want on it? glitters and bedazzle jewels? and "stoop down"? no wonder why some people think iphone users are a bunch of pretentious elitist snobs.

If you can't stand it when this site talks about something other than Apple Apple Apple go over to loser site Appleinsider.

Those of us who enjoy Apple products realize that competition makes their products better. In that sense Google's new phone is interesting.

Apple makes some really great electronics. It's not a religion or even a lifestyle.

During their live show today, The Verge basically said the screen is garbage and the phone should be in the mid-tier rather than at the same price point as the iP5 or S4.

You can decide for yourselves if that is the case, but I have a feeling they sacrificed display quality for a lofty battery number. Even the rumored low cost iPhone will have a superior screen.

Lastly, Google's last battery claims around the Nexus 7 came from a test where the tablet was in airplane mode with the brightness at 45%. According to all of the reviews, the actual real world life is half of the claim. I won't be surprised when the reviews of the X say something similar.

People who don't like ugly TouchWiz.

Or people want more than a few hours battery life......

Wow a 24hr battery in a giant phone - how did they fit a big enough battery in there...oh...wait...the phone is huuuuuuuge

Its not huge. A S3 or S4 is huge. The moto x apparently feels smaller that it looks, and it doesn't look big compared to the iphone 5.

It's a nice phone, but it is priced too high at $199 on a two year contract. And that just gets you 16GB.

For a phone that is supposed to be designed for the masses, it certainly isn't priced that way.

I think Apple can roll over and go back to sleep.

I also think that lack of a tablet to compliment the phone will hurt it when compared to Apple. Of course just could just be me. But I would be curious to know how many smartphone owners have a tablet also.

You do realize that at Apple, $199 also gets you just 16GB.

I'm thinking about going back to iOS too. But the Moto X and the Droid Maxx are also catching my attention.

This is the flagship product that Motorola/Google is releasing and it runs (X-1) version from last year and NOT the version X released a month or so back.

Doesn't this show that the platform is severely fragmented? Am not discounting the phone or its features. But what does this release show to the user - Google's own Motorola cannot come up with a phone running latest greatest, how can this task be expected from other OEMs.

There are a lot of cool features that many may like... only the lack of latest greatest is a weakness that even Google cannot handle. Why? Is the platform and extend of customization so complex that OEMs take months if not year to provide updates? May be the knowledgeable experts can share their thoughts.

I agree the X not having 4.3 JB, its strange. But then it is a few weeks till it starts to be released so it may still have ver 4.3 if moto/google hear the online complaints. Having said that, im betting they keep the best OS for their Nexus line, so yes, it it does make it fragmented. And if you get the phone on contract you're also under the whim of when your carrier decides to test and release the new OS, which is why some people are months away in releases.

Actually that initial "waiting for a command" happens locally. Then when you say the keyword 'Ok, Google Now...' it records the rest of it which then gets processed on the server.

I'm with you, still creepy but facts are facts.

Not different to Siri is it ?

Wait, I thought this was "MAC" Rumors... I fail to see how this has anything to do with Mac...

It generates links, comments and therefore revenue. Unless people stop responding to non-Mac news they will continue to do so.

Why is this frontpage news on Macrumors? Just another Android phone, only this time under-specced and over-priced. Read the comments on Verge et al., the disappointment among the Fandroids is immense. They thought they'd get a flagship phone with zero margin for 200-300$ without contract; now they found out that Moto actually needs to make some profit as Google is not ready to cover their losses indefinitely...

Because there is very little Mac news, Kinda obvious. Its kinda funny that nobody thinks a flagship phone should be free except iphone fans. Seriously funny because we all know the next iphone won't surpass it spec wise. That said I do wish they would push the minimal storage boundaries in order to make 32 gb an industry standard.
