What kind of repairs are you doing??
That's what Applecare+, Squaretrade and Insurance are for.
I'm mechanically inclined and have done surface mount PCB rework in the past (not as a living, I design chips for a living). I prefer to let someone else deal with the phone. Broken glass? Let them fix it. Motorola is a bit slow but glass repairs for their phones run about $100 directly from Motorola.

Once my electronics are out of warranty I fix them myself. I've never had to repair a phone before, but I'd have no qualms about disassembling and replacing parts myself.

For damage that makes the phone inoperable I probably would take it to a store for fast repair. However, for something less severe like a finicky home button or battery that doesn't hold as much charge as I'd like, I'd rather do the repair myself. I just like taking stuff apart to repair.

I easily get 24 hours with marginal use on my Razr HD.
The X along with the new Razr variants should get better power.
This includes a few calls, some games, some streaming, some GPS and some web lookups.

but the x has a 2,200 mah and the razr hd has a 2,500-2,600 mah battery.. so im confused

Some people expected this to be some sort of hyper-spec hardware beast that'll have a 8.75ghz quadcore and 32gb of ram.

I love this phone, and i think it takes a page from Apple.
Quality not quantity.

Yes. Mid range hardware with a nice exterior and finish. With a healthy markup. Sounds like Apple to me.

i can wait to how many pranks will be pulled on the users through this active voice feature!

And lets see the battery life!

THis is a reason to want this phone to sell like hot cakes!

"okay google now, wake me up at 3 am and again at 4 am."
"okay google now, text mom.... you daughter is in a porn movie."

By the way, dunno how android works... do people find a workaround pretty quick (like with previous iphones) where you can basically "root" the phone and unlock it.

So buy off contract and unlock it with some sort of root.

Actually that initial "waiting for a command" happens locally. Then when you say the keyword 'Ok, Google Now...' it records the rest of it which then gets processed on the server.

I'm with you, still creepy but facts are facts.

Exactly. Funny people aren't bringing up the fact that everything you say to siri goes to apples servers. Pot calling the kettle?

Have you bothered to look it up? How do you claim it to be 'fail' ?
The first time you setup moto X it records the " OK, Google Now" in your own voice to train. It only trigger on your voice and if someone else says that phrase, it doesn't respond.

You don't understand "training" That is just improve accuracy with how you speak, it does not mean it will respond only to your voice. (inflection, tone, draw, etc)

So yes, the device will still activate with another persons voice. It's just that it would be less accurate if dictating things like a text message.

This is already built into google now as it is, just not as part of a set up, and the feature requires you enable storage of your voice on google servers.

There is supposed to be a google version sold by google which should be unlocked and free of any provider bloatware and no need for a contract. If its only say $200 more for that version its probably well worth the extra $$.

As a android fan I was really looking to this phone and is very disappointed no one mentioned the pinkish screen yet it's awful. This Moto has made me give up on android and give apple a try.

What happens if you and your wife/spouse have this phone, one of you ask "Ok, Google Now"? i guess you get your answer in surround sound from both phones!

This ad.

This ad shows an eternally lonely - loudmouthed bachelor. Nice. The time it takes me to reset my analogue alarm clock 2 seconds and I save my breath to sleep well.

People who don't like ugly TouchWiz.

I am _NOT_ defending Samsung or advocating for TouchWiz, but I will say this. Unless you own an S4, like I do, you've got no appreciation for the improvements Samsung has made to TouchWiz. Yes in the beginning it was very poor, but now it's got some very good features.

While this is true, at least you control when Siri is listening. You don't control when Google is listening. It's potentially a virtual treasure trove for the NSA and other government agencies.

Wow a 24hr battery in a giant phone - how did they fit a big enough battery in there...oh...wait...the phone is huuuuuuuge
