What bothers me is people think because an iPad sells more it is superior, unless you made the iPad or work at Apple I don't see how that makes sense. Also most people on here have never even played with a XOOM.

I own both an iPad2 (my wife's technically) and my XOOM. I had an iPad1 since launch until I sold it for a XOOM. For me, Apps are lacking on XOOM but it's made up for with the true tablet OS and excellent first party apps.

Find me a better GMail/Email, Maps, Browser on the iPad and other stuff you will actually use most often and I'll sell my XOOM. Since I've had my XOOM, I haven't touched the iPad2. Everytime I pick it up I miss using the XOOM.

1. Fluid Interface-Apple Kills
2. Battery life-Apple wins
3. Ecosystem-Apple wins
4. Apps-Apple Kills
5. Games and Graphics-Apple kills

For anyone to choose any other tablet over the iPad means they care nothing about these five things and had might as well buy a NETBOOK. It would save them a ton of money.

EDIT: Just noticed non of these things have anything to do with Hardware. Its all USER EXPERIENCE, definitely something only APPLE understands right now.

P.S. U can add all the hardware features u want(8mp rear camera, 3mp front camera, USB ports, etc) but ID STILL CHOOSE THAT BEAUTIFUL ALUMINUM FRAME OF TABLET over all that any day.

Funny, and true.

By the same token, if I explicitly told my wife I wanted a Xoom, Playbook, Tab 10.1 and she came home with an iPad, I wouldn't be the saddest kid on earth, but I do know that I'd be returning it for something I want.

Of course, I also hate it when she brings me home a cheeseburger when I wanted a hamburger.

Ok ok ok... xoom, ipad, whatever...

you'd rather have a hamburger than a delicious, melty CHEESEBURGER?
Frigging hamburger fanbois... :p

The Xoom is a great tablet. I'm willing to bet that the majority of you who have discredited it haven't even used it. And it DOES have 3.0 Honeycomb, which IS made for tablets. The iPad 2 is still a better tablet, but is it not possible some of the iPad 2's sales have come from just the Apple name? People will buy an Apple product even if it didn't have a feature.

Not bad for a $800 dollar device, available for one carrier. I wonder what the numbers will look like after the late march wifi-only.

At least 100k people know what its like to have a really FUNCTIONAL Tablet.

please tell me! what defines a functional tablet

  • Xoom-1.6Lbs vs iPad 2-1.3Lbs
  • Steve Jobs said during last years D8 conference that the iPhone actually began as a Tablet, so the UI was originally designed for the larger screen but they decided to put that project on hold and released the iPhone first.

I knew someone like you would ultimately post that. I think Google has it right as far as how a tablet OS should function for the user, and Apple on how a Smartphone OS should function.

I really don't care about quotes and all that, you believe whatever Steve tells you. Sure, they might have begun with the idea of putting such OS on a tablet, nothing wrong with that idea. It had to be shrunk and trimmed down for an phone device. They carried that over back to a tablet once they saw a market for it, and kept a very similar UI, hence the common "iPad is just a giant iPod touch" saying, which is mostly valid.

I don't even know how much an iPad 2 weighs, and I wasn't comparing it to the iPad to begin with as it was just an observation, so I don't know where you get that idea, I guess it's a fanboy instinct.

I actually prefer Atomic Web Browser on iOS to Chrome on the Xoom. But the difference is so minor...

For those of my friends who are techy and into computers/technology, the XOOM is much more enjoyable.

Riiight. Because when you're "techie" and "into computers," you want a native app catalog of 30?

How many of your "friends" actually have a XOOM?

This is why having competition is good.

Can we just assume "competition is good" so people don't have to repeat it on every single thread?

If Jobs had his way we'd all be stuck with iPads whether we wanted them or not.

And if Motorola had its way, we'd all be stuck with XOOMS whether we wanted them or not, and if Samsung had its way, we'd all be stuck with Galaxy Tabs whether we wanted them or not, and if Microsoft had its way, we'd all be stuck with whatever crappy Win7 tablet is out there whether we wanted them or not. Welcome to...business!

Your attempt to show Jobs in a bad light in this regard is absurd.

I'd assume that that would be user specific for their needs. Different strokes for different folks and all.

Honeycomb, iOS, QNX, WEBOS. They'll cater to all types.

Shame people are brainwashed by Apple with their crappy product, and the superior tablet is behind on sales. Im sure it will pick up soon.

You busted me.

I am a hamburger fanboi, and will turn into a raving lunatic, foam at the mouth and make up opinions based on nothing all to defend my beloved hamburgers. After all they're lighter, slimmer and tastier than cheesburgers!!!

I bought a xoom...the salesmen started it up for me and after seeing it I changed my mind. It was my first return before I swipped my card.

WTF? Others are playing catch-up because Apple put out a fantastic product before everyone else. Now its catch-up time for the competition.

You list ONE issue with the iPad, that it looks too much like the iPhone, and then go on to a laundry list of issues on the Xoom that culminates in a tech support call and THAT is your preferred device?

Rock on winner. I have a bridge I want to sell you.

This guy, lol. I removed my comment because I'd waste my time with you. :):):)

I'm not joking when I say this - I held off buying a Macbook for years purely because I didn't want to be associated with these hardcore Apple fanboys who live under Steve Job's bed. It's quite sickening.

Interesting, don't I remember you as the guy always trashing on Apple on Digg? (I gave up on Digg a couple of years ago, but I remember your shtick.)

I love Apple products,

Whoa, epic conversion!!! :)

It's absolutely amazing how easily people can be brainwashed.

Google seems to have done a pretty good job of it with you. See, fanboyism is a two-way street.

YEP...over 100,000 people bought a Xoom...and clearly half of them will be on this forum telling everybody how much better it is than the iPad...;)

There is no reasoning with you. :)
I will stay with my walled fromage garden while you enjoy your open cheeseless wasteland!

EXACTLY! But it doesn't make the Xoom or the iPad 2 any less of a great product. I advice everyone who gets a chance to use it. Actually use the Xoom and see it's not so bad. I really think many of you guys are just hating on it because it's not an apple product so it obviously can't compare. -_-

did you feel dorky typing XOOM so many times. I would, because its dorky. It's the same reasons that everything in "Xenon: Girl of the 21st Century" was dorky

I'd rather buy like a tablet running a modified version of Windows 7 or something similar. Not an Android tablet. Unfortunately I don't think I've seen anything like that released :(

Yeah but it kinda grows on you. I really don't like iPad 2 as a name very much, but it kinda grows on you too.
