You both ignored HOT DOGS! Sheesh, hot dogs rule. The only problem is kids under 6 choking on them unless you cut them right. But that will be fixed in the v3.0 hot dog, they will come pre-sliced.

GTFO.

Or are you counting on the deal with that swedish sausage company to save hot dogs from doooom?

The race to the bottom continues...

Hot dogs?

Hot dogs?

Those are the Hyundai of...oh, wait, that analogy has been used already. Uhhhmmmm, Hot Dogs are the Yugo...oh, man, did it again.

OK, I've got it: Hot Dogs are the Hot Dogs of food.

Unfortunately the Xoom (or any Android device) doesn't support Windows Authentication in the default browser. Quite a few Enterprises use on internal websites, etc. Firefox for Android supports it, but last I heard, it wasn't compatible with the newer processors in the tablets.

Puts a damper in a lot of enterprise positioning they could have done.

iPad/iPhone supports it though..

Dude, you forgot to use your android fan-filter. :p

This is why the xoom won't sell as well as the ipad. It needs to offer a low-end introductory model.
Andy Ihnatko wrote if an ipad competitor were to have a weekend retreat about the goals of their tablet, then a sub $500 price wouldn't be a bad place to start. Granted, that can't be its only feature, because Dell has proven that a cheap price won't bring them in droves. However, if that's the starting point and then the manufacturer adds the requisite features, the tablet might do well.

I don't think price is the issue. It's more complex than that.

First, have you actually played with or used a Xoom? Technically, very nice and cool. Consumer-wise, confusing and weird. Even the demo apps on the thing were not all that great and a couple actually made it look bad.

The iPad is sooooo much easier and smoother. So much more consumer friendly and appealing.

Second, iPad is the standard. The iPad, like the iPhone, is the standard for tablets and consumers tend to migrate to "the standard". Why? It's safe.

Third... Momentum. Consumers see iPads selling like crazy. So, the more they sell, the more people want them. Everyone wants to follow the crowd... just like Lemmings.

iPad = Low risk. It's easy to see that if you Buy an iPad, you're buying a device that is going to be there for a while. Buying a Xoom is risky, unproven and if you buy one, you might have just bought a dead end product. Just like Samsung has already proven with the Tab 1.0. The iPad is a safe purchase.

So, it's more than USB port and processors that is going to knock Apple off the Tablet thrown. Other Tablet makers are going to need to hit many aspects of the consumer to sway them away.

Xoom.... I say Fail.

BTW... the Xoom at the Best Buy here is broken... been that way for two weeks now according to the sales guy.

If the sales are so bad why don't they just replace it from the stock they have?
Why put out good money after bad? Shouldn't Motorola be responsible for providing a new demo unit?

If there are no sales then why should the store bother spending their own money on creating a demo unit out of one of the units on sale?

I just realized something...

I'm an Apple mobile device user, and I have never ever been on an Android-centric forum. Not one time! Why would I care what people who have such an obvious difference in taste think about what I have?

It never ceases to amaze me at how many Android users have to flock to a site called "MacRumors" because they feel then need to lead us poor blinded Apple "fanboys" to the bright shining city on a hill that is Android paradise.

At least go have your Android orgy, where it may be appreciated by others who care to watch that type of thing...wait...there are such things as Android forums, right?

Or...

It could be considered being close minded and afraid of new things.

Just saying, you know?

An orgy of Androids? That sounds scary. Almost as scary as a bunch of Apples having an orgy.

Android has taken fanboyism to epic new proportions. You can't go anywhere on the Web these days without the Android Brigade screaming at you about how awesome, "free" and "open" it is and how you should get on board. Just post the comment "ANDROID FTW!!!" on Engadget and watch the upvotes ensue. And while they're celebrating their epic market share gains, they are referring to iOS users as "sheep." Riiiight.

I thought the Apple vs Microsoft holy war was bad (and we have at least one pro MS astroturfer on this Apple-oriented site), but Google seriously has a mindlock on some of these people. (I'm not referring to all Android users, mind you, only the ranting/raving types (which seem to be the majority these days).

This can't be right. MR posters have assured me that the Xoom is better than the iPad. I mean, if you can't trust MR posters, whom can you trust?

You don`t really use the opinion of the American public as a standard for what is "better" do you?

:)

So someone forced you to read *and* comment on a story titled clearly "Motorola Xoom Tablet Sales: ..." ? Or was that not enough of a clue ?

1. Have you seen honeycomb? Its a work of art.
So is a tesla, but I've yet to see one in person. you can't buy what you can't see. apple kills.

2. Apple only has better battery life to do the tight control over the way multitasking is done.
I think you want to say 'due to the tight[developer limiting] control over Multitasking'.

Anyway, what you are really saying is Android multitasking doesn't know anything about the HW limitations behind it. Great in abstraction, but poor in consumer practice

3. Not sure what you mean
because you don't grok the synergies of the iOS/iTMS/app-developer/ip*/Apple ecosystem. That's beauty to behold.
4. Got to agree apple does have more games.
5. PAUSE. Games apple does not have more games then Android. Android has Emulators which allow it to play NES, GBA, and countless others. Do to this android has tons more games.

make up your mind.

emulators suck. period. If they didn't, we'd all be running VT52 emulators and we'd playing DnD in character mode.

Emulators are a monument to engineers who try to build something old of new material to squeeze value out of something that doesn't hold value anymore. All of a sudden you're trying to emulate a foreign UX with a native UX. Neither is served. It's like trying to play baseball in outer space. The game needs a complete rewrite because of the amazing new frame of reference.

The thing about android is you will get tablets that will cost what a tablet should cost and not being overcharged. All of the current tablets are horribly over priced now. There is not one even the Ipad worth over 250$ USD.

hasn't happened yet. In fact the opposite is happening... worse quality at a higher price... because all the reinventing of the wheel and inefficiencies of the multiple component delivery systems (OS, HW, integration, QA, 'skin', marketing, wholesaling, retailing, customer support, developer relations).

No matter what Apple does lately or how much they sell or how good the forecasts are for sales Apple Stock continues it quick downward slide. What the HELL!! I just do not understand it ... Specially while Google stock continues to climb at an incredible pace week, after week, after week..:confused::mad:

Are you looking at the same AAPL and GOOG I have been? Really? Are you sure?

You might be in Bazaro Universe? Look at the 1 week, 2 week, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year and 2 year trends. AAPL is looking pretty sweet.

100,000 seems about right. You have to consider what the potential market would be.

For years it was: "Apple must make a tablet or they're DOOOOOMED!!!!" As soon as they did, the same people were screaming about how it couldn't run Final Cut Pro—"Epic Fail!!! LOLZZZ!!!"

Then when the iPad started selling like hotcakes, they had to start touting every sort-of-similar contraption that came down the pike, even though they do the same kind of things the iPad does and they were already on record bitching about what a worthless device the iPad was.

Anybody who thinks that they are then going to run out and spend >$800 for something they've already ridiculed in advance needs to take a reality pill.

That's assuming they have any money to spend on it. The screamers aren't buyers—they're howler monkeys. The 100,000 units were probably sold to teenage boys (who got their parents to buy it for them, that is) who saw the commercials and said: "Cool! I wanna morph into a robot!" That market is probably saturated, and I don't think their parents are going to go for any of the fantabulous new tablets that are "coming soon"—not this year and probably not next year.

Shame people are brainwashed by Apple with their crappy product, and the superior tablet is behind on sales. Im sure it will pick up soon.

why is it a shame? because everyone isn't buying what you're buying?

just enjoy what ever you like and be thankful that you have choices.
please support motorolla, please support apple and everyone else.

these really are just glorified toys for adults but people talk about them like theyr'e the holy grail.

You missed the point

So someone forced you to read *and* comment on a story titled clearly "Motorola Xoom Tablet Sales: ..." ? Or was that not enough of a clue ?

My point was not that I don't want to see stories about Android devices on a Apple-centric site, or hear valid arguments for both sides, because then I truly would be closed-minded as some may believe.
I love discussing the pros and cons of different technological devices with others who's opinions may differ from my own. However, is it too much to ask that rabid, Android proselytizers, refrain from flooding a forum with baseless, biased, bs in order to "put us in our place" or preach the gospel of Andriod?

The same goes for Apple fanatics trolling on Android sites. If you can't put aside your ridiculous prejudices when discussing things, you ain't helpin' the cause, if you know what I mean...on either side.
