Also, it is interesting that Android 2.2 makes up the largest percentage of OS's out there in use.

Can't Android users upgrade to the latest OS? 2.3.3 is the latest phone OS.

I came across http://edovia.com/iosstats recently. Interesting to see how much iOS is fragmented (nothing compared to Android but still).
Obviously it is somewhat limited by being a sample. It would be nice to have something similar from Apple.

I hope that number keeps rising; we need competition to not let Apple rest on it's laurels.

Reading the story I knew someone would say something like this...

We don't need bad competition. Bad competition does nothing for nobody.

Apple created the iPad and iPad 2 with ZERO Competition.

The Xoom is not competition it is just a monetary outlet for people who don't know any better.

Yeah, I also remember you always talking about how your mom had an iMac (or something like that) but how you thought Apple stuff was overpriced crap. Of course now you own a MBP and "love" Apple stuff, except for the iPad of course, cuz your XOOM has 2 native apps and runs widgets. (I also remember you bragging about how much money you made. So it is you.)

As for tablets-for-toilets, you have far more chance of seeing those pallets of XOOMs at Costco (as balamw mentioned) being firesold for high-tech bumwipes.

I remember you too. Did Steve Jobs call your hotline because Apple needed a tried and true fanboy to come to their defense?

I learnt too long ago that you can't be reasoned with so let's just leave it at that. Not worth my time.

Are you serious? So you would count all of the PC games that can be run under VMWare as Mac games? Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? They are not available for android. The emulator is available on Android but the games are not.

...oh I wasn't aware that we are splitting hairs here. Pardon me.

That is interesting.

I think the delay on Android is it's not a one OS fits all and there's a delay on the Samsung, LG, HTC, Moto side as they have to take the new version and tweak it for their specific devices. That's the only thing I can think of????

There are "emulators" on iOS like a C64 emulator with properly licensed games bundled with it but the emulator still only counts as "one" app. What Apple does not allow are "free for all" emulators as people can then run pirated roms on them. I think it is disingenuous to count roms as games when the only application for android is the emulator itself.

To each his own bud, you enjoy iOS and all it has to offer, and I'll enjoy Android.

Just my personal preference.

I agree with your final thought, but it is a strange response :). Do you not see the difference between something under an emulator and a native app?

Particularly when you consider on Android most of the emulated games are pirated, it drives away developers, it does not attract them...

Android has taken fanboyism to epic new proportions. You can't go anywhere on the Web these days without the Android Brigade screaming at you about how awesome, "free" and "open" it is and how you should get on board. Just post the comment "ANDROID FTW!!!" on Engadget and watch the upvotes ensue. And while they're celebrating their epic market share gains, they are referring to iOS users as "sheep." Riiiight.

I thought the Apple vs Microsoft holy war was bad (and we have at least one pro MS astroturfer on this Apple-oriented site), but Google seriously has a mindlock on some of these people. (I'm not referring to all Android users, mind you, only the ranting/raving types (which seem to be the majority these days).

I find apple fanboys to be the least informed of their product. Saying things to defend their purchase such as "Its a Mac so of course its better then any PC." or "Its more expensive there for its better." Of course we know that some PCs have the capabilities to be faster then any MAC on the market. (I.E. an enthusiast rig)

Link one single post dated prior to yours that says either of those things.

And the Winboys with their Droidboys always have to chime in on how the Macs are overpriced or how they can build a better PC than a Mac. We're proud of you.

Who cares... go buy what you like and we'll enjoy our Macs and other Apple products.

Yeah google took down Rom Gripper recently. And they took down one of the Emulators. It was a PS1 emulator people think it was due to sony's xperia play. I think it doesn't scare developers because those are Ancient games being pirated. The Issue is more that its hard to compete with a Casual game for 99 cents against a gba emulator that delivers thousands of games

If you look at macs as hardware only YES THEY ARE VERY OVERPRICED. but when you consider that they come with a proprietary OS you can't really say how much they cost.

Hell honestly Arguing Mac OS 10 vs Windows is simply the arguement of which stock feature (that has tons of free and paid alternatives that are better on the internet) is the least needed. Or what flaw is better then the other flaw.

Pro: iOS devices are so easy to use even children and morons can use them.
Con: iOS devices are so easy to use even children and morons can use them.

Yes, the downside to having such a widely adopted product is that invariably they'll be many users who just inanely parrot what they've heard, despite how ridiculous it is. For example: "Macs can't get viruses."

That being said, you can't discredit the product or even the company that makes the product just because of moronic users.

It's no surprise though. How can they sell something that even Google says has an OS that isn't ready.

It was foolish to bring another unfinished product to market. It will only hurt them in the long run, IMO. The reputation will get so bad that people won't even consider giving them a chance.

That's odd, because this wasn't my user name on Digg.

Nice try though.

BS alert.

Yes I agree and thats why I believe they all suck equally they all have their horrible cons that the other side is so quick to point out while ignoring all of the benefits of good it has.

You mean like "iOS isn't a real tablet OS" or "Android is free and open?"

FACT: unlike Microsoft you can wrap some dog crap in metal and slap either a Google Logo or Apple logo and it will still sell.

I don't think my Mac was overpriced. My MBP is almost 5 years old. It runs the latest OS flawlessly. Still speedy, used every day with no problems. Well.... maybe the keyboard should be replaced... some of the keys are worn out now. the letters are rubbed off. :)

Worth every penny and does everything I need my laptop to do.

Android vs Apple

I have a friend that is a diehard Android/Google fan. I've explained to him multiple times that I simply prefer Apple stuff not only because it is "better and easier to use" but also because I prefer paying to not have my stuff stored in a cloud and scanned for ads (because I hate ads. I even delete apps with ads in them). I see no point in the cloud when I can sync, storage is cheap, and coverage and passwords can be unreliable.

He think Android is way better because its open, cloud based, and its going to be the de-facto standard. He likes it because its open, there are no restrictions, and he has choice over hardware and price. He is also frugal. He swore he would never buy an Apple product.

This is our friendly lunchtime argument.

He is on his third iphone and uses Airport for his wireless network. He uses itunes for his music. He likes to complain about the dropped calls.
