With or without Flash, Honeycomb is currently more capable than iOS.

Doesn't necessarily mean its better, obviously, since that depends on the individual's needs/wants. But to dismiss the Xoom/Honeycomb simply because Adobe develops slowly is a bit of a jump.
More like at a glacial pace. Adobe promised mobile Flash nearly a decade ago, on Windows CE and Symbian, and it's still just barely there, and developer tools are still in beta. Sure, Flash is just one (potential) feature of Honeycomb not available on iOS. But it sure is funny considering all of the howls of "FAIL" when iPad was announced with no Flash.

Maybe I missed something, but whats with the "cheering" and "insults" towards competing products?

I love my iPhone, iPad, etc... but I *want* good products from other companies on the market as well. Otherwise Apple won't innovate or improve at a very fast rate themselves.

Competition is good, people. You're better than this.

Many don't think rationally like this. You have Mac vs. Windows, Android vs. iOS, flash vs. html5, etc etc, just complete idiocy. I do agree that the Xoom is digging itself a hole with stupidity like requiring a month of service to turn on wifi. I definitely considered the xoom, but I'm going to wait to see what the ipad2 offers first. While Android and arguably other OS', ie: Palm, RIM, etc have trumped iOS by far, I still haven't seen any company release hardware that is as "nice" and solid as the ipad, and I'm a big lover of well made gadgets.

Where is the guy who started the "Why won't the ipad support the Full Web" thread? I'd love to hear from him about this. Plus we all know that Motorola always keeps its word about later updates.

And they tried to hide it using a 8 pixel high graphic (with 6 pixel high text)

Sad failures.

I don't see the point of this article as everyone can donwload Flash player from the Android Marketplace.

I don't see the point of this article because I don't know anyone who's excited for the Motorola Xoom, or anyone that will buy it.

I have a feeling its not Motorola deciding things such as the 1 month deal, and it's Verizon pushing themselves all over companies that can't really push back (Motorola needs Verizon, Verizon doesn't need Motorola). And like I said (and expanded upon by someone else), I bet Adobe's at fault for Flash, not Google/Motorola.

The Xoom is the first of this generation of Android tablets. There are going to be hiccups in this sort of environment, its not going to outsell the iPad, but it is an important stepping stone.

Regarding the binary us vs them attitude... I know why it happens, I simply don't understand it. I can understand it say in.... war against an easily identifiable and threatening enemy (Nazi's from WWII?), but over tablets... just plain silly.

i think you are thinking WAYYYY too far into this.
alot of people touted this xoom for being an "ipad killer" based on flash. I know not everyone..but let us have our fun.
i hate to break this to you..but...THIS IS A MAC FORUM.
are you looking for unbiased reviews? I dont go to a Ford forum to get great reviews of chevy.
I think YOUR opinion is just plain silly.

Competition is good, people. You're better than this.

You are missing something. You are missing the 20 plus posts per day talking up how great the xoom is going to be and how no one will ever buy an iPad again. You are missing the paid astroturf war that has been going on since before the iPad came out. You are missing that not one single person who comes here to post has had anything substantial to say about a shipping product, only soon to be shipped products.

You are missing that macrumors has become the default hangout of Android fans.

It is sad, pathetic, and lonely. And now, before anyone even reviews the thing, the xoom has already lost a selling point.

Add that to the poor Android performance so far, the high price, and the "sign up for a month to activate" crap and so far the xoom looks about $800 over priced.

Yet by morning there will be 12 more astroturf posts in the forums....

And to make the wifi work, you have to pay at least 1 month of 3g (pay cell) service to make it active....???

I know people Irl that are bragging about the Xoom even though 1/ it's not out yet 2/ they won't get one even when it is available 3/ don't know what the hell they are talking about they just want to hate Apple products at any opportunity. Fwiw I am not Apple fanboy been a life long Windows user but I am impressed with Apples stuff just can't afford any of it heheh. Not impressed by Android however. It's like a peepee measuring contest with specs. It's a out the content for me.

Yea, one whole month, $20 bucks... same as a marriage license. If it's the tablet of your dreams, just pay the $20. Of course, I wouldn't marry a woman without taking her out a few times.
Isn't it more like $55 though ($35 activation fee)?

... It's a out the content for me.
It's mostly about the content for most normal people too. But specs do matter some, if the original iPad had 512MB RAM instead of 256, that one thing would put me off from upgrading for quite a while. But even so, I don't see the Xoom being a massive upgrade in utility, even though the specs are much better. I'll probably wait until next year's models.

Cant really see that going on, most posts I see is more "xoom is doomed"

Somehow I doubt that.

perhaps

Poor android performance? Didnt notice that.

High price? Can buy one for 250 , how is that high price?

800 overpriced? With a lot better hardware then ipad I dont see it that way.

And no doubt a 112 like yours who miss the mark just as much.

It's also much, MUCH cheaper to trade in a tablet for a newer model... :D

I hope Android and Xoom do reasonably well. Giving Apple some competition in the tablet space is a good thing. A competitive market benefits the consumer by pushing the manufacturers to improve their products and price-points.

I also really don't give a dang which platform works or "wins". I use what best serves my needs and will move to another platform if/when the perceived benefits outweigh the "switching cost". I used Palm products for years beginning with the Palm Pilot, Compaq/HP iPaqs when they were better, back to Palm on a couple models of Treo, then to Blackberry, and then to iphone.

Arguing about which device is going to trounce the other is just as stupid as little kids on the playground fighting over whether Superman or Batman would win in a fight. Who cares?

My Amiga was better than my mates Atari ST as my Amiga has better hardware specs than his machine :D

lol :D there was no worse conceivable parental *******-up than them buying you an ST instead of an Amiga. Unless you were a hardcore music-spod.

Exactly, shen! Very well stated...

I try not to come around here much anymore, because just like you said, it's filled with annoying daily posts from 14 years olds whacking themselves off to Android homescreens and Xoom widgets. The worst part is, 99% of these kids will never, ever buy an iPad or a Xoom because they're broke.

The only reason Android has gained ground in mobile phones is because they are either on a carrier that doesn't have the iPhone, they are way cheaper than an iPhone, or given away free with a contract.

How will your precious Xoom survive without any of this criteria met?

You forgot about China. Of course now that there is a CDMA iPhone... (Yea, I know Hong Kong, but the REST of China). I also wonder what will happen when iPhone 5 comes out and peoples contracts are up on Verizon. They say 30% of day one sales were people dumping Android phones.

How will your precious Xoom survive without any of this criteria met?

The same way the Galaxy Tab did... :)

Just so you know....

Superman would totally kick Batman's a***

That's true, but don't forget that it's only problematic in OS X.
Flash runs smooth and flawlessly in Windows 7.

Should we blame Adobe or Apple for the problems only happening in OS X? :)

Not true. Flash always hanged my FF (on my Windows 7) for a couple of minutes or more everytime I clicked play or adjust volume.
Flash is problematic on all platform if you don't have latest spec.

Too many kids here. Used to get better during the school year, but no more.

I don't think an Android astroturfer started this thread.
