i think you are thinking WAYYYY too far into this.
alot of people touted this xoom for being an "ipad killer" based on flash. I know not everyone..but let us have our fun.
i hate to break this to you..but...THIS IS A MAC FORUM.
are you looking for unbiased reviews? I dont go to a Ford forum to get great reviews of chevy.
I think YOUR opinion is just plain silly.

I expect people to be fans, not fanboys. I'm an Apple Fan, I have mostly Apple products, I enjoy their products.

The difference between a fan and a fanboy is acknowledging that there are competing products that are good, better, existing, whatever.

I'm a tech fan first, Apple fan second. I enjoy competition. I don't expect everyone to have zero bias, but I do expect people to acknowledge that strong competition exists and is a good thing for everyone.

You're more than welcome to disregard my opinions, just as I am free to be confused by what I find illogical.

You are missing something. You are missing the 20 plus posts per day talking up how great the xoom is going to be and how no one will ever buy an iPad again. You are missing the paid astroturf war that has been going on since before the iPad came out. You are missing that not one single person who comes here to post has had anything substantial to say about a shipping product, only soon to be shipped products.

You are missing that macrumors has become the default hangout of Android fans.

It is sad, pathetic, and lonely. And now, before anyone even reviews the thing, the xoom has already lost a selling point.

Add that to the poor Android performance so far, the high price, and the "sign up for a month to activate" crap and so far the xoom looks about $800 over priced.

Yet by morning there will be 12 more astroturf posts in the forums....

I must have missed all those posts, I'm not in here on a regular basis. Either way (pro Android to a fault, pro Apple to a fault), it comes off as closed minded. Preferences make sense, we all have them, but the illogical yelling about who is universally better, not wanting good competition, etc just comes off poorly.

It is a shame that the XOOM will be missing a major feature point, but at the same time, I don't believe it to be Motorola's or Google's fault, so the cheering about and insults seem to be misguided.

As far as if its overpriced... its possible, I don't know. It has quality components, coming from a company that probably can't match Apple's aggressive pricing due to quantities ordered/able to sell/offset with software sales. Its not much more expensive than the competing first generation iPad (3G/32gb) though I imagine the iPad 2 will change that further.

Either way, I'm excited that its coming out. It's the first in what should be a quickly developing and competitive non Apple tablet market. Which will hopefully push Apple to further develop iOS for iPad into something truly amazing.

Good post.

Best Buy has them...

$799

LOLOLOLOLOLOL.....

Its only 70 more than the equivalent iPad and it has specs that are worth that extra 70.

As far as paying for the first month of data, while it is a bad policy if I bought a 3G tablet I'd want to try that feature out right away so odds I'd be paying that regardless.

It makes sense that flash probably hasn't been optimized for the new batch of processors.

Also, Spring 2011 is 10 days away. Assuming Motorola isn't wrong about their promise, then the Xoom will have flash before the iPad2 is introduced.

At least its getting it. Do you think that Apple will change their mind once they start putting processors in their devices that can handle flash?

No. Because Battery Life will always be the priority for the iPad. Big, fast, multi Core Chips = "where is my adapter"!!! :apple:

Too late. Wait till you see the pricing on iPad 2. They will also build 40 million in 2011. No chance for anyone till 2012.

But, what if you didn't want 3G ? What if 16 gigs of storage was enough ? Big price difference. $200-$300 difference. That was one of the keys to the iPads success. Android makers just don't get it, do they?

With or without Flash, Honeycomb is currently more capable than iOS.

Doesn't necessarily mean its better, obviously, since that depends on the individual's needs/wants. But to dismiss the Xoom/Honeycomb simply because Adobe develops slowly is a bit of a jump.

The Xoom is going to have to come out with guns a blazing in order to compete with the iPad. Honeycomb may be more 'capable' on paper, but specs do not define an OS. The fluid user interface of the iPad has yet to be challenged, and it will take all the Xoom can muster to do so.

So, in the world of tablet computers, the act of consumer dismissal will come very quickly if the product is not on top of its game as Apple has set consumer expectation. Have you seen the Samsung Galaxy? You could put a V-Twin under the hood, and the clunky interface has already sunk the product within a month.

I still don't see any true competitors that can offer the entire package the way that Apple has done it. Apple may be simply too far ahead to catch up.

There are already tons of android tablets cheaper(250/350) with just 16GB (or less) and wifi.

Motorola already announced those as well.

So no, like with smartphones they get it.

Yeah but why add yourself to the "fanboy" room where if it ain't x product then it sucks, no debate possible. It just makes a good honest discussion difficult, especially when it inevitably degrades into name calling and insults over a freakin piece of hardware that someone else is making money on.

Except everything in that price range is junk (excluding Nook Color, but you have to hack it).

A new trend is developing with consumer technology. At the end of the day, product brand triumphs tech specs and component details.

Dell could come out with a laptop euivalent to a macbook pro, but it would never sell like a true macbook pro because Dell's brand died in consumer's eyes years ago. Same thing is happening with HP.

We are also seeing the same trend with phones. Motorola, Nokia, HTC, LG, etc.

Brand matters above all else.

The fluid interface on an iPad just masks what it really is and what it's not capable of. So many people are hopelessly bonded in Apple darkness.

No one knows what the iPad2's pricing will be. Based on 4 years of iPhones, it will have the same pricing as the current one as far as the three levels of storage. The only hope we have for a competitive price drop is if Apple ups the storage which will drop the 2's price by 100.

What's entertaining is everyone calling the Xoom vapor ware when everything point to it actually shipping soon. By that logic the iPad2 is vaporware as well.

You sound like someone who hasnt seen any of the NUMEROUS xoom demo videos. If you did and you make the statements you did, then all hope is lost for you and people who think like you.

You already know the WIFI version of Xoom will be released in the future that will be a couple hundred bucks cheaper. But then again, being such a big fanboy, you just can't be rationale, right?

Have you tried any? Archos and creative tablets (wich I have tried) are good and solid tablets. For a lot less then an ipad. I am actually thinking of buying one of those as my wife keeps taking my ipad to surf.

I must have missed all those posts,

It has been pretty bad, at least for a few days there.

I agree, it is a shame, but not because I see flash as mattering.

If there is going to be any competition with Apple at this early point, they really need to have their act together. Talking up how it has flash and then releasing it without is a problem. I would rather flash just died. I have had a grudge against it for 7-8 years. Maybe longer.

But, if you list flash as a selling point, and then don't deliver, even people who have no idea what flash is will look at you as halfa$$ed. It shoots your product in the foot right out the door. I am tired of watching Apple release a product and then watching a dozen also rans release "me too" junk.

As much as I hate windows, when they manage to get things right, or even half right, Apple responds with better versions. Fast user switching for example was on my linux machines and windows long before Apple got it. I am glad they felt pushed by that.

But right now the phone and tablet market is Apple, a cheap knockoff copy called Android, and a whole lot of nothing. I have some hope that webOS will get better. And if someone will hire a really UI team Android has a lot of potential, but right now Apples only competition for quality is when they look in the mirror....

Sure we know that.

...just like we know the xoom will have flash.

Maybe it isn't as much fanboyism as it is accepting that reality might not match up to the hype.
