I’m getting lag with a hard drive directly plugged into the Mac Mini using a regular RF mouse. I have the i3 model. It seems like it is a power issue to me. This is very disappointing. I will be returning it tomorrow and get either the HP Z2 mini or Intel Hades Canyon NUC.

Crazy. My usb dock did the same thing to the mouse but not the touch pad

It only happens when plugged into the usb-c port. usb-a is fine. I don’t have time to deal with it so it has been returned.

What is really interesting is that, in my case, I am using the same Apple Bluetooth mouse and Sentey USB 3.0 hub that worked flawlessly for 3 years with a Macbook Pro. I simply removed the Macbook Pro (used in clamshell mode) from its spot on the desk and replaced it with the Mac Mini. The USB 3.0 hub is in the same spot it has been for years. I never experienced any RF interference issues until I received the Mac Mini.

Got a new monitor w/ USB3 hub. Bluetooth dongle in the monitor working fine. So it's not USB3 hubs in general, it must be some type of interference close to the machine.

My CTO Mac mini hasn't arrived yet, but I will definitely return it if I'm not able to use my Bluetooth peripherals and USB-C SSDs at the same time without issues.

Hi, is there any update from Apple for OP?

Was almost pulling the trigger on the Mac Mini since iMac doesn’t show up this year and I want to switch from MBP to desktop, but now this got me worried. So in general does USB 3 drives always cause issues with Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad?

Thanks a lot!

I have no problem with the trAck pad but the mouse is erratic
Thanks a lot for the update, now I am looking forward to the Mac mini ;)

In the end for $17 I solved my issues. 3ft usb2 extender cable and Bluetooth Dongle. No more dropouts for mouse, kbd, or headphones.
Great info! And thanks milleskj for pointing quickly to the intel link..

I got my new Mac mini today and this was the first test I did to see if I have this issue:

1) connect a USB 3.0 HDD directly to the mini
2) configure it as a Time Machine backup drive
3) start the backup process

Sure enough, as soon as the system started accessing the HDD, my wireless trackball went bonkers AND, even more frustratingly, my Bluetooth keyboard (Filco Minila Air) which I have been using with all my computers since 2014 without any issues whatsoever, started skipping keypresses.

I know I could possibly solve the problem by buying an external dongle, but honestly, at this price (I paid 1800 euro for my Mac mini) it should be damn perfect.

Seriously, what's wrong with Apple? Wi-fi inside my 2016 MacBook Pro turns into a potato when I connect it to my USB-C docking station (connection speed drops from 867 Mbps to less than 100 Mbps), and this Mac mini seems to have a crappy Bluetooth module. No bueno.

How did you set this up? What dongle and what steps. Does the other feature link concruence still work?

You need to download Bluetooth Explorer, select and activate.

https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...uetooth-dongle-instead-of-built-in-controller

One thing that is strange is that the Apple Bluetooth controller does not appear in the list of controllers to select and activate. it does on all my other machines but not the Mini and I am using the latest Bluetooth Explorer 6.0.9. it is dated oct 18th though which is pre Mini release.

That also changes to BT4. Maybe this is related to BT5. Do we know if BT5 is causing issues with other Macs?

Good call on the BT5. Dongle I use is BT4. Wonder if Bluetooth Explorer hasn't been updated to support BT5.

A piece of cat hair over the LED hole can wreak havoc. Blow or brush the mouse clean.
Also sometimes.too smooth a surface gives optical mice trouble.
I take 300 grit sandpaper to my oak desktop every few years; just in the area where continual mousing erodes it smooth.

I'm using a wired mouse from my old G4 Mac and a wired keyboard. My 2018 Mac Mini won't recognize trackpads with fresh batteries, my Razer mouse, my Logitech wireless keyboard, my wireless speakers. I'm glad I didn't throw away my old peripherals. It really sucks and I hope Apple fixes this. My monitor is Thunderbolt3 with a new Belkin cable. Nothing else is plugged anywhere. Frustrated.

i was having some BT issues with my Apple Magic Mouse, but it was also getting a bit old. I got the new trackpad 2 and a logitech MX Master and use the USB for the mouse, and it is perfect.

I used two usb-3 hubs and this one interfered with bluetooth and wifi on the 2018 Mac Mini :
Macally TRIHUB9 - 9 ports USB-A / USB-C. A.
I used a bluetooth dongle as a workaround but i disconnected the hub and internal Bluetooth is OK again.

I also have a Belkin 4 ports usb-3, connected to a Thunderbolt/USB-c port and several external hd connected to it without any problems.
Mac Mini is not extendable so one may need quite a lot of external devices ; this is not a Mac Pro (mine lasted more than 8 years before it went silent). Interference becomes a common problem.
I need a lot of diskspace : 5 hd in a Terramaster connected to Thundebolt port : no interference.
And fast GPU : Breakaway box connected to Thunderbolt with a 2 m long cable, no interference either.
I could need a hint for a reliable powered usb-3 hub in these circonstances (7 ports would be fine).

I’m getting the trackpad in a few days, is there an issue with the bluetooth?
