A piece of cat hair over the LED hole can wreak havoc. Blow or brush the mouse clean.
I was having trouble with my Magic Mouse 2 being jittery and lagging, cleaned it thoroughly and now it works fine. My cat spends a lot of time on my desk, so I concur that cat hair can lead to mouse havoc.

This is absolutely crazy. So everything has been working fine - using a wireless Logitech M325 mouse, for a few days. I rearranged my desk area for the new set up, and plugged in my hard drive dock (it is for internal hard drives). I know it works fine on the Mac mini. But all of a sudden I noticed my mouse acting wonky (I actually was finally using it today). So I read this thread, and decided to try unplugging my HDD and now everything is working great.... :( Even my Bluetooth keyboard starting acting wonky.

So if I get one of those hubs, will it fix my problem?

My wireless mouse and HDD are usb A (3.0)

Sometimes you just need to get better shielded cables, or change the plug-in arrangement.
Some USB3 hubs are good only for trash.

I was having the same problem with a Magic Mouse 2 on a Mac Mini 2018. The same mouse did not have trouble on a Mac Mini 2011. Bluetooth Explorer showed the link quality being close to 100% with the Mac Mini 2011 and close to 5% with the Mac Mini 2018 for similar mouse to computer distances.

I'm trying to avoid the Bluetooth dongle route, so I ended up moving my Mac Mini closer to the mouse (It's just over 45cm away now). I'm not quite at 100% link quality, but the behavior is tolerable now.

I certainly had to fuss with this more than I expected.

No, not at all. It has worked perfectly from day one, has never lost connection since it was first connected with no stuttering either.
I’ve been using the Magic Trackpad 2 for several days and it is smooth with no hiccups. I have it connected/charging 100% of the time, however.

Just wanted to jump into the ring and say I’m having the same experience. Sort of a relief finding I’m not the only one.
Magic Mouse 2 is unusable with Mac mini 2018 when USB 3.0 or USB-C devices are connected. Any type of simple flash storage or external HDD will make the mouse unusable, unless it is run off a long extension cable.
Very frustrating considering the cost, I’ve reached out to Apple support to log the issue.

Is it true you have to reconnect Bluetooth devices when using an external Bluetooth dongle? Was considering this but seems a hassle!

Hy. I connected a dongle. Bluetooth signal is a little stronger and more stable. I had interferences with a USB hub but then changed it for another hub and everything was fine again. Many people complain about these interferences on the new mac Mini. I think this an importantissue and i hope there will a system update to stabilize bluetooth. Otherwide we'll have to get back to usb mouse and keyboard like in the old days.

My USB powered hub is right behind my mini and I have 4 items plugged in: 2 usb3 external drives, mouse/keyboard switcher, webcam, and magic trackpad 2. No issues. I use ugreen 7 port 5v powered usb hub.

I too am having Bluetooth mouse problems with 2018 Mac mini.
The symptom is very erratic mouse movement. I have a Magic Mouse 1. Battery is at 50%.
My observations:
  1. Mouse works okay only if within about 1.5 feet of Mac mini.
  2. Unplugging my USB 3 hub cures the problem.
  3. I'm not sure the brand of hub, but it looks just like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Indi...545061517&sr=8-19&keywords=usb+hub+3.0+switch
  4. [edit]: A USB mouse works fine.

I would like to know if anyone is using an Anker hub. That is a reputable brand in my book, and hope that if I buy one of those I will not see these problems.

That hub sure got a bad review. I have an anker power strip/usb charger that works pretty well. I also prefer anker but i don’t think I could find one. The UGreen I use got reasonable ratings https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072TW79NY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Looks to me like your options are:
- Get a different hub
or
- Use a WIRED USB mouse (and keep using your existing hub)

Other options:
Get a Logitech wireless mouse that uses their own "wireless" (NOT bluetooth) receiver.
If that receiver still causes problems (when plugged directly into the Mini) get a USB3 "extension cable" (has USB male plug on one end and USB female plug on the other), and plug the receiver into that.

Or... get a small USB3/bluetooth transmitter/receiver and use that with the USB3 extension cable -- effectively relocating the bluetooth receiver away from the Mini and closer to your peripherals.

Having the same issue. Based on this thread, I moved my powered hub (Amazon USB 3) further away from my Magic Trackpad, and a little further away from the Mini. This seems to have solved the problem, as I've had no disconnects for the past 30 minutes. Prior to moving the hub, they were occurring about once/minute.

The powered anchor hub was the cause of the major interfere in my setup

Been looking at this thread, and I'm also having the same problem with bluetooth mouse...cannot connect my USB 3.0 hub and have the bluetooth mouse work. Got a USB bluetooth dongle that works, so I can have the USB 3.0 hub plugged in.

My problem is that I can activate the USB bluetooth dongle without a problem, but I have to do that every time I power my mac mini up. Is there a way to make the external bluetooth dongle be the default bluetooth device? I have the bluetooth explorer tool, but again, don't see how to make the external dongle become the default bluetooth device using that.

I can hotplug the USB bluetooth dongle just after I boot, but unplugging and plugging the thing back in again seems like not such a good way to do this. Going to wear something out sooner or later *smile*.

This is kind of driving me crazy...I did try one thing that I saw in some articles on the interwebs:

sudo nvram bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior=always

This didn't work for me, the default bluetooth controller is still the internal one. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

One alternative is to purchase a USB extension cable, and "reseat" your dongle in the extension cable. Over the long term, much cheaper to replace a cable than to repair a possibly-worn-out USB port on your Mac.
And, you might discover that having the dongle further from your Mac might fix your issue, too, where you might not need to reseat anything.

Thanks...I currently have two possible ways of getting the bluetooth dongle away from the mac mini. The one that I want to use is the USB hub built into the wired USB keyboard. It sits right by the mouse, so that's perfect if I could make the dongle the default bluetooth controller. Otherwise, I'm hotplugging it there every day. The other is the spare USB port on the mac. I have a cable connected to it that runs under my computer desk. I put it there for connecting a USB mouse until I got the bluetooth mouse working, and it's far enough away from the mac to be useful. But I have to go under my desk to hotplug the dongle if I use that *smile*. The one I really should use is the keyboard USB hub, but need to make the dongle into the default bluetooth controller.

That's where this idea falls apart for me. If I could set the default bluetooth controller, this would be a great idea *smile*.

I just installed my Mac Mini and having a frustrating problem with the Magic Mouse 2. It does connect but it is acting erratically -- sometimes moves slow -- sometimes really fast and inaccurate. I was using the same mouse on my MacBook Pro without any problems as well as the mouse/MacBook Pro on the same external monitor. I have disconnected the mouse, reconnected, rebooted etc. but it is still not right. The keyboard and the touchpad does work well and as expected.

Any ideas? This is really disrupting my enjoyment of the new computer.
Bought my Mac mini in 2/2019. Since then I have had this same issue. It disconnects itself and comes back on and after awhile it does it again. It's very annoying. First I thought that it was the mouse that was broken, but then my brother took mine and I got his mouse. Then It worked for a while without any problems, but then It started to do that again -> mouse disconnected, mouse connected. My magic keyboard has worked without issues until approx. a week ago, it started to do that as well. For a couple of times it has done that. Also that slowness you told has been there! I also have done all the magic tricks, but nothing helps.

After pairing Mac mini 2018 with Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad (old gen. with batteries), bluetooth started to become unstable more and more often and at the end it disconnected and reconnected every minute. I tried a lot of suggested solutions as to disconnect USB peripherals, switch off other bluetooth devices, remove metal object and remote controls, regenerate bluetooth.plist.files, use the debug to remove bluetooth devices and reset the bluetooth module, reconfigure and re-pair trackpad and keyboard but nothing solved my connection issues.
At last, I tried to do a reset of System Management Controller, a Combo update and, at the moment, it seems to be effective

Have you tried the "Magic" trick of trying a USB mouse and keyboard?
No. It's not the way it should be! :) I rather wait for it to stop doing that :) It's not sooooo big of a deal, as long as it works somehow :D

Have gone back to a wired mouse. Neither a bluetooth or USB mouse will work consistently with my mac mini, but a nice, lightweight wired mouse works well all the time. Backwards to the future *smile*.

Sorry @DeltaMac, but many people keep the Mini not on the desk, but connected to the HDTV and in that case is very useful to have wireless keyboard and mouse two meters or more away, comfortably sitting on the armchair. I saw the same issues 15 years ago on my first Mac mini model, not on the second one (early 2009). It's unpleasant to note that the company has not solved this issue after three evolution steps of Bluetooth standards

I have a Logitech mouse paired with it's unifying usb dongle directly to the mini. It was working perfectly until I bought an aukey not powered 4 usb3 hub. Just after plug the hub the mouse started to freeze and moving estrange even when it still connected directly to the mini. After disconnecting the hub all worked fine again.

Finally I returned the hub and bought a ugreen usb male-female cable to take the back port to the front in order to avoid using a hub and the mouse is working fine.
