Paradoxally, you say safari doesn't exist for Windows? Is that because of Windows 8? I've got windows Vista and Windows 7 with safari on them. Not sure why they would work on mine then

Safari for Windows was discontinued some time ago and isn't supported anymore.

Huh? I'm not sure what the problem is with an iterative "fast" release schedule?

I think it has only brought good things to Firefox and Chrome, making it easier to follow the evolution of web standards and also provide users with earlier response to feedback in terms of fixes and improvements.

It's not like they're doing "too much too fast" and destabilize the browser; they're working in the same pace as ever, just with fewer features per release. But again, on the other hand a better response cycle. Apple's more like... "OK, thanks for the feedback. See you in a year when it's maybe solved." Done Internet Explorer style, what a role model.

But hey, the version number is smaller! Cool!

I'm also quite impressed with the Firefox performance lately. They're now beating Chrome on Google's own benchmark (!) and are simply winning when it comes to memory load. Meanwhile Google Chrome feels more sluggish than ever and Safari 8 has several reports on excessive memory usage.

I still use Safari at home for the OS X & iOS integration and improved speed lately, but I strongly believe Firefox is the next best thing (or the best if you need cross-platform support, Chrome on OS X is just... ugh!) and a very important browser to have on the market. Also since it is so independent, and its influence from a sponsor doesn't go much farther than the default search engine in a search bar. Google Chrome, in comparison, is nowadays more like a client-side platform for Google's web initiative and Google Accounts, and Safari is not platform agnostic, which can be a problem for me as well at times.

What issues? It runs pretty much rock solid for me (FF Developer Edition).

I also do not understand why people still shade Firefox. Its memory footprint has been optimized to the point where it is the most memory efficient browser you can run from the "big 3" (FF, Safari, Chrome).

It is extremely extensible and customizable, so you can make it yours. No other browser has even close to the amount of customization FF allows.

It protects your privacy and, if you don't like the default privacy settings, there's an add-on for that (ex: NoScript, Ghostery).

The sync feature works pretty damn well, second only to Google's imo. However, Chrome has been extremely bloated lately and taking up a lot of memory, hence my switch to FF.

It is not a perfect browser, but is way, way ahead of its competition. Safari doesn't exist on Windows, so I can't use it (unfortunately, I still have to use Windows at work), and I've pretty much ditched Google's alternative.

Who cares about extensions when the scrollbars for Firefox windows don't even function like Mac apps? There's a *horrible*, non-standard, non-Mac app feel to Firefox. Reminds me of the nasty Java apps I'm forced to use occasionally.

I like Mozilla Firefox.
It's the browser that I prefer on Windows and it made my transition to OSX easier when I made the switch in 2011.
I've always used a lot of open-source and freeware software (Firefow, Gimp, LibreOffice,...) in my Windows era and istalling them on my iMac made the transition go faster.
Nowadays I mix Apple, Microsoft Office and open-source software constantly, but I still prefer Firefox than Chrome or even Safari.
YMMV.

Yey I guess. As a Firefox user I can now have a Firefox theme and my sync data within iOS Safari.

Bloatware, flash crashes, and never ending Firefox updates, yay! Seriously what version of Firefox are they on now? 39?

Posted by someone who has clearly never used Firefox.

Firefox crashes at least once per day on the Mavericks equipped Mac Mini I use at work. This has been a problem since 29.0. Chrome might not be well optimized for OS X, but it has never crashed once for me.

I've long given up on firefox and have since moved on to other browsers. I really don't see any advantage (At least with my usage) to running this on iOS.

I'll probably give it a try on iOS, though Safari is just fine for my needs. I don't do much browsing on iOS and mainly only look at MacRumors when I do, or an occasional search.

I do use Firefox as my primary browser on Windows.

I believe Chrome is now optimized for 64bit Mac OS X, but I don't like using it because of Google's famous "data collection." They don't make it as easy to clear everything out like both Safari and Firefox do.

When I quit Firefox, EVERYTHING IS ZAPPED, and that's the way I want it. With Safari I don't do that, but if there's a problem, I have no problem clearing everything if necessary but rarely have to.

The key features I like about Firefox is the ability to download videos from many websites to an .mp4 file with a Firefox extension. Can't do that in Safari.

Also Firefox handles FLASH better and many sites still use it. I mean, I hope Flash dies, but it's easier for me to download FLASH videos than it is HTML5 videos.

I remember a time when firefox was a must! It was always my secondary browser, firstly with IE, then chrome, now safari. As safari has really excelled itself, firefox has seen an exponential decline in function - i only use it for dwnldhelper, which i rarely use anymore (was useful as some lectures were embedded as flash and i could save these to view when i want (as did not at the time have decent 3g let alone 4g mobile LTE)

Chrome has always been laggy for me. Hope Mozilla can be able to do it. I naturally dislike Safari.

Chorme has been excellent for the last 5 years, still is. I do most of my everyday surfing still on chrome, banking, apple and macrumors is a stable on safari.

I think the safari team have really excelled themselves over the last couple of years, as safari now easily rivals chrome, however, i still find more usage flow better with chrome for certain things - hence i use both.

Is IE still available for OSx?

I can think of why crashes happen...

I had the same problem. and it was not Firefox... Most of the time it was Flash..

Since flash is run inside Firefox, the browser crashes. Often that's the cause. Other times its addons from other versions...

Other than testing to see if FF runs ok in Safe mode with all add-ons disabled, that's really the only cause...

There are times FF just crashes, just this is very rare, and most times when browsers do crash its because of the above, and flash as well

But i do agree on one thing.. IE has issues :D

It would be great if Apple allowed the Adblock Plus plugin and NoScript. I'm tired of webpages covering half the iPhone screen with ads. Worse are the popups that cover the page.

They didn't think their boycott of iOS through.

Because I had to go through other browsers and iTunes to sync my bookmarks iOS devices and Firefox I eventually dropped it everywhere I used to use it. Now I'm not sure I'm going to pick it back up again.

Here Here! This is the main reason I would want Firefox. What I really want is ABP! and better than that I'd like a reverse firewall like Little Snitch to block all ads for all Apps on the entire device.

I really don't see why so many peole are complaining about this. I think it's great that Firefox is doing this so that people within that browser ecosystem can have a more seamless experience. I'll download it out of interest, but it won't pull me from Safari.

I gave up on Firefox for OS X becuase they really weren't good about updated for OS X features and the new "Chrome" like interface bugged me bad. It's still my preferred browser on Windows though.

so this would basically replace the "Firefox OS.." that came out

Hardly worth in even having buying one then just for a browser,

I don't know. Things like choice of web browser work for Android due to the kind of platform it is. With iOS though, it's the stock experience that you're buying into. Otherwise why even bother going with iOS? The best browser on iOS is Safari. The best browser on Android is whatever you wish to use.

That's how I see it at least.

Maybe instead of complaining you could easily see that they have a version that is good for almost a year at a time.

You mean Safari? It wouldn't be an issue if it had some basic features. But you're right, it's great knowing that you have to wait at least a year for the chance that something useful may get added

Yeah, I use a combination of Safari and Chrome. Chrome mostly when I'm in bootcamp. I used to use Firefox for download helper, but there are a couple good alternatives of those now for Chrome.

I doubt anyone on a tech forum hasn't used all 4 of the major browsers to some capacity. But good attempt at logic.

Its like a prayer answered.

I hope they keep the momentum up and follow thru with Thunderbird.
