Anyone else having trouble with Firefox 4 Stuttering?

Happens about ever five seconds or so. Noticeable when typing, scrolling, and watching video is basically undoable.

Rather annoying. Probably have to switch to Chrome until they release and update...

Edit: Cleared Cache and no more stuttering...Edit2: For about two minutes now back to stuttering. I want to go back to Firefox 3

Have you tried deleting your Firefox completely (including your Profile) and making a fresh install of it?

Is anyone else noticing testicle grabbing high memory usage from FF4? I was just poking around Facebook and I was hitting 2.5GB of memory used... which was causing a gig of swap from my SSD, which I hear is terrible for it (is it?)

Back to Sapharee for now, I suppose.

FF 4 is faster and uses less RAM so far for me. So I'll give it a chance for a while. I miss Safari top sites, though.

Can't wait to see how Apple will try to 1up Mozilla with new Safari versions.

I've been having that problem with FF since about 2.5. No matter how few add-ons I use, somehow it always ends up gobbling up 1 of my 4 Gigs. It annoys me sometimes.

For anyone who was wondering about bookmarks/open tabs/settings/add-ons transferring over like my post below, everything went ok with my install. Everything transferred over, 2 of my add-ons were de-activated but it gave you the option to inform you when compatible updates were available.

I had 5 tabs open when I last closed 3.6 and it opened them up when I first opened FF4.

Installing FF4 wont erase settings/bookmarks from 3.6, will it?

I ask this because I just double-clicked the dmg file and went to drag the FF4 icon into the applications folder and it's asking me if I want to replace the existing FF3.6 stuff...just wanna make sure it's not erasing all bookmarks/open tabs/add-on's by "replacing" it.

They got rid of the little bubble that hides the toolbar :( I hate the top of Chrome and how much space, etc. it takes up. And now Firefox has copied it and made it the default, while removing one of my most used features. At least they put options in there to switch some of it back, but the bubble appears to be gone for good, now I have to go to the menu and uncheck two things if I want to hide everything up top when I'm browsing.

Did you find a way to get this back? I downgraded because I use it a lot :S

Firefox was my default browser for a long time but now I use a Macbook Pro and if I pinch on the trackpad it doesn't do anything.
It supposed to make the page bigger or smaller.

I will stick with Chrome for a long time.

You can also make rotating two fingers left/right (like when rotating an image) change between tabs.

As for the new Firefox, I love it. Just as fast, if not faster, than Chrome, loads of customization options, very smooth scrolling, and relatively low memory usage. :)

It is not as good as said. It does not support many tool bars like alexa tool bar etc. Also, they should also change the Mozilla icon as I cannot feel that I have installed any updated version of browser.

No PPC Support!

Mozilla will not release Firefox 4.0 to Mac OS 10.4 or anything PPC. :( However, and Firefox distribution called TenFourFox does support Power PC but not Intel 10.4. Although if you have an intel computer you can most likley afford the $30 upgrade to 10.6.3:apple:

Mozilla changed the add-on model in Firefox 4.0, which broke a bunch of existing add-ons. This may be why said toolbars no longer work.

If you are desperate, the G3 build of TenFourFox should run on Intel 10.4 through Rosetta, albeit a bit more slowly than you are probably used to. That said, I cannot guarantee it will work. As a user of the PPC7450 build of TenFourFox, I can say with confidence that it is one of the best browsers around right now (IMHO).

Anybody notice that they still use the "Universal Binary" icon to describe the Mac OS X downloads? I thought Apple's trademark rules state that you're only allowed to use that artwork to describe applications that run natively on both PPC and Intel basd Macs.

Yep. That is Apple's policy.

Maybe Firefox should update their artwork...

More to the point, shouldn't the article say "requires an Intel processor" along with the bit about 10.5 Leopard??? I mean it's kind of important to know that if you still have an older PPC machine around. Firefox mentions neither.

I've noticed some other OSX applications don't even check for compatibility in their latest incarnations before updating a PPC app to non-working status. (e.g. If you're running Skype on a PPC machine, it will tell you there is an update available and then when you click OK, it installs an Intel only update and then tells you after you try to run it that it won't work on your architecture.). It's one thing to discontinue PPC support and quite another to not even tell people on the first version that discontinues that support....

I use better touch tool, and for firefox (or any browser I open) I have 'tiptap left' and 'tiptap right' for switching tabs left and right, and I use 'three finger tap top of trackpad' to open new tab and 'three finger tap bottom of trackpad' to close current tab. Also, 'three finger click' on a link to open in new tab (i tend to only use taps instead clicks on the trackpad in general'

It always startles me when I use another laptop now without the multitouch controls, let alone the extra custom ones I have become reliant on.

*edit* for anyone who isn't aware, tiptap left would mean, place right finger on the trackpad and then tap the left finger onto the trackpad. This for me would switch to the next tab to the left

Used the beta for a while, and got the 4.0 version now; it's definitely faster than 3.6, I love the new look, it's faster than Chrome at times, but I'm gonna stick to Chrome since it's faster overall. The green spinning loading circle is ugly, it's like the cartoony color of vomit.

I am someone who uses a LOT of tabs at once (my preference) and FireFox used to crash after a certain amount

Now? I have yet to see it crash even when I have double as many as previous Firefox versions

I have noticed just the opposite, I don't know when the last time 3 crashed on me but so far 4 has crashed at least once a day on both my Mac at home and PC at work.
