I don't understand why they can't get rid of the titlebar for the mac version, it's taking up unnecessary space. They did it for Windows. Chrome did it for both.

I switched from Safari last summer and have been pretty solidly impressed with it. It's much faster than Safari and loads multiple tabs faster too. The Firefox 4.0 is very close to the same speed, but I just like the Webkit design and speed better.

I use 3 browsers on my mac, Chrome, Roccat and Safari.. I love webkit what can I say..

The day Firefox gives up gecko and switches to webkit is the day I switch (not gunna happen)

Am I the only one who thinks firefox rending including in 4 is really slow compared to webkit and even *gulp* presto... (I hate Opera- well for mac anyway the windows version is quite good compared).

But the gecko is soo cute! Oh wait, that's the Gieco comercial.

can anyone comment on memory usage of this version. While i DO like chrome, it consumes SO MUCH MEMORY when doing a bit of tabbed browsing. I'm finally happy with my settings for FF3.x, and the memory usage but don't want to move backwards with FF4

I've made it a habit to load up my Macs with ram, it's an easy way to speed up most everything. I find it's worth the money, no matter what ram prices are at the time of purchase.

Firefox 4 was not INTEL only in the early betas.

I know because I ran beta 3. Mozilla dropped support at beta 4 or sometime later I think.

However, TenFourFox has released a final 4.0 beta optimized for G3's, 2 different versions of G4's, and a G5 version.

In fact, they just updated their G5 version of 4.0 today as well.

It's not bad. I can see they're actively developing and doing bug fixes.

I realize PowerPC is dead, but if you have a topnotch G5, there's no reason you can't do anything an INTEL Mac can do and in some cases MORE! My G5 is certainly still more powerful than the initial lower end INTEL MACS.

I still use my last G5 to stream HD video and files to my HDTV set via HDMI.

I mean it's just a browser. What's next... To use Email, Thunderbird it requires Intel.

By their support of WebM, FireFox is dead to me.
How does the fact that FireFox supporting WebM impact you negatively in slightest?

What I assume you actually meant was: By them not supporting H264, FireFox is dead to me.. You can still play H264 encoded media via a Quicktime plug-in.

As FireFox is an open source project, Mozilla choose not to ship it with H264 due to it being a patent encumbered codec. People who should be worried about the fact that FireFox supports WebM are Apple. With both FireFox and Google's Chrome supporting WebM, it may become the de facto standard for web video, this would be bad for Apple as they have backed H264.

Tab Groups = Fail. I was expecting something like Spaces for tabs, but the entire implementation of this feature is retarded. My preference is still Safari then Camino then Chrome then Firefox.

Installing FF4 wont erase settings/bookmarks from 3.6, will it?

I ask this because I just double-clicked the dmg file and went to drag the FF4 icon into the applications folder and it's asking me if I want to replace the existing FF3.6 stuff...just wanna make sure it's not erasing all bookmarks/open tabs/add-on's by "replacing" it.

And why did they have to put the "Open in new Tab" above "Open in a New Window" ??? What's this with the tabs love lately? I HATE TABS!!!!!

Thanks for permitting me to vent! I spend about an hour figuring out how to edit the menus.

Right click > tabs on bottom

Or,

Right click > customize - move the icon.

Is there an extension that will make each new tab open to the right of the current tab, as opposed to opening it to the right of each newly opened tab?

FF4 - Breaks - Hiccups

So, since I installed FF5 yesterday, I've noticed a couple of things that are REALLY annoying..

1) The track-pad "Pinch / expand" function for the content of the current web site rendering does not work. You can try and swipe - nothing.. Bring EXACTLY the same page up in Safari - no problem,, WTF ???? This alone is enough for me to trash Moz v 4.x.

2) Moz v 4.x will NOT start on the specified home page. In my browser, I can set a home page in "Preferences: OR follow the user guide that says 'take a URL and drag it to the 'homepage' icon on the address bar.. did BOTH - nothing works...

HELP!!! These are a HUGE PITA.....

Shouldn't for bookmarks. If you are paranoid, copy your latest backup to an extra location like desktop.

Open tabs? If you have certain tabs set to open on launch, it should also maintain that pref, although I'm less positive on that. If that comes from an add-on, see next comment.

Add-ons will be killed, though. Until the add-on developer updates it. Some already have, but probably not most so far. If you have critical add-ons, you may want to check them out before upgrading.

Anyone else having trouble with Firefox 4 Stuttering?

Happens about ever five seconds or so. Noticeable when typing, scrolling, and watching video is basically undoable.

Rather annoying. Probably have to switch to Chrome until they release and update...

Edit: Cleared Cache and no more stuttering...Edit2: For about two minutes now back to stuttering. I want to go back to Firefox 3

I was hoping FireFox 4 would have more support for CSS as mentioned in some of their forums, but no. I use massive amounts of CSS in my websites to keep from using Flash.......and I have found that my sites load faster and work smoother when on Safari or Google Chrome. With FireFox, it still works, but the "animation" part of the CSS does not.

For example, I use a "Bubble" effect for some buttons using .PNG files. Works flawless in Safari and Google Chrome, but in FireFox, it just looks like a humdrum rollover button. If Google and Safari (and I've been hearing the new IE) can do it, why not FireFox? And I haven't seen any drastic improvements that are noticeable (at least not on the sites I develop/visit).

Examples of FireFox not working: Open this page in Safari and rollover the buttons and you'll notice the effect is smooth and flawless. Open it in FireFox and the animation aspect of it doesn't work.

Just downloaded Firefox 4. I've always used MultiClutch to cycle through tabs and zoom in/out in firefox. This no longer works. I tried deleting my multiclutch file for firefox and making a new one. Still nothing.

Anyone know how to use trackpad gestures to cycle through tabs left/right and zoom in/out in firefox 4?
