I use 3 browsers on my mac, Chrome, Roccat and Safari.. I love webkit what can I say..

The day Firefox gives up gecko and switches to webkit is the day I switch (not gunna happen)

Am I the only one who thinks firefox rending including in 4 is really slow compared to webkit and even *gulp* presto... (I hate Opera- well for mac anyway the windows version is quite good compared).

It's Chrome for me, but I do have a question about Safari vs Firefox...

Why does the 3 singer swipe down with the trackpad on a Macbook Pro take me to the bottom of the page on Firefox, but not on Apple's own Safari browser? I can also 3 finger swipe up to go back to the top of the page. ;)

fwiw - ff4 is useless on a brand new i5 3.2ghz 8gb PC at work. I'll try ff4 at home on my macbook, maybe.

I've been looking for a 3.6 install all day for PC at work and can't find it. I should have known better. Now I'm using Chrome full time at work and might be at home too.

Disappointing release so far.

Ouch... no MAC OS 10.4 Support? :)

Mozilla stated 10.4 would no longer be supported a good two years ago. It's not news.

Apple have deprecated 10.4 and it's no longer supported. It's nearly 6 years old after all. Before anyone chimes in - any Windows XP related argument is redundant. Microsoft extended support of the OS.

Love it!

Fast, responsive, and nice interface. :D

I am all about the App Tab and the Add On easy to use UI. :)

I am hooked but that said it is not faster than Chrome on Windows 7. :(

Chrome is still the fastest of all but the UI on Firefox really is well done. Now if only Safari got a real update and not just bandage job. :(

Back before my Mac days, Firefox was my favorite browser by far. Now that I've switched to a Mac, I've also switched to Safari. It took me about a year into becoming a Mac user before I finally gave Safari a try though. I like it more because it's lean and fast of enough for me. The consistent crashing was annoying but I was able to fix it.

But yeah, I downloaded Firefox 4 anyway. Firefox is still my backup "just in case" browser.

My experience has been that limiting yourself to a max of two browsers is better than trying everything under the sun. Right now, I'm happy with Safari and Chromium.

Don't shoot me, but I'm still using Yahoo for email. I can't stand Yahoo, but it's a love/hate relationship - don't want to have to deal with updating my info on 100 different web sites (including this one) and also have to notify everyone and deal with the whole email cutover... Have had same email address for 11 years now. ;)

Anyway... Yahoo used to SUCK on Firefox 3.x... It was so slow scrolling through a folder full of messages... Froze up... Crashed... You name it.

Installed Chrome a couple weeks ago... AWESOME, instant response, almost as if Yahoo was my Outlook client installed locally.

So, I decided to try Firefox 4.0 today... I have to say that while Yahoo works significantly better on FF 4.0 then it did on 3.x, Chrome is still significantly faster for navigating my Yahoo mail, so Chrome is the winner for me.

Plus, nearly all my Firefox plugins have a Chrome equivalent - including Evernote Clipper, and Adblock Pro!

Every browser other than Safari I keep only for web development. I would like to see others follow Opera and get their browsers into the Mac App Store. Single update mechanism for all apps = GOOD.

Tried it out, but I still vastly prefer Chrome over it. Chrome is just a lot more efficient with the combo address/search bar; not to mention it's still noticeably faster to me.

It's a nuisance if you're browsing hosts on a corporate network. I despise that combo bar, which is why I ditched it.

www.Tenfourfox.com

I've tested the TenFourFox Firefox 4.0 on a G5 and a G4 and so far it's TWICE as fast as SAFARI! I haven't tested Intel yet.

They claim to be sending the compiled versions to Mozilla but it's unclear what Mozilla will do with them. I assume nothing.

I've not tested the G3 version and probably won't since I don't actively use any of the old G3s I still have laying around, but I'm very impressed with Firefox 4.0 on my Mirrored Door Dual 1.25 and my Dual 1.8 G5.

Only time will tell on stability, but so far, at least for PowerPC speed, this seems much better than Safari.

The constant crashing or spinning beachball on Safari on Facebook, Flash websites, and heavy Javascript sites was becoming annoying, not to mention that infamous annoying warning, "The script on this site is running slow or not operating properly, do you want to stop it?"

Even in Safe Mode, FF still has abnormally high RAM usage. And the really annoying part is where the CPU idles. For instance, on Chromium and Safari, just 1 tab (facebook) idles at no more than 2% CPU, while in FF it's around 10.

I will confirm this is the issue for me as well. I got home and installed FF4 and played 3 games of Zuma Blitz on facebook under FF4 - within the first few minutes the fan kicked on and stayed on while playing the flash based game.

Just switched to Chrome and played a few games and the fan never came on.

Memory/CPU utilization under FF4 was 24.7% CPU - 269MB Memory

Memory/CPU utilization under Chrome was 11.7% CPU - 66MB Memory

That is a HUGE difference if you ask me and what exactly is it doing with all that horsepower and memory?

Intel MAcs Only & OS X 10.5

After trying to install on my pre Intel PowerBook and getting a not allowed icon after expanding the .dmg file downloaded I searched the FireFox site high and low and could not find an answer so waited in the live chat queue for 45 Minutes to be given this link of specifications by the help desk.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0/system-requirements/

It would have been a great thing for the article to mention this little caveat to upgrading to FireFox 4

So,

so, I'm not really seeing a RAM increase which is good. I'm ALSO seeing a decrease in CPU utilization for the same sites. I made a couple of sessions prior to upgrading, and measured what they ran at prior to the upgrade. For the most part the CPU utilization is about 30-50% LESS than with 3.6.10 for me.

What I AM seeing is some odd page rendering, with content shifted WAY off page, not sure why: Example

Any way of getting rid of the annoying opaque stuff at the top in FF4? I much preferred FF3...

Edit: Never mind I got it.

Chrome

this is the thing that really urks me abou Chrome. Sure, I open ONE window and the default app shows 50MB of RAM usage, but all these "chrome workers" consume ANOTHER 180 MB of RAM for ONE window. If i open more tabs or windows, this thing just proliferates.

Not there are not a lot of extension or apps running in chrome.

I like the new Firefox because it really is very fast indeed. :)

But alas, it also disabled almost all the add-ons I've installed on the browser. :( I hope they're updated over the next few weeks.

Heh, it still takes forever to load on Windows and it looks like IE 9!
really? firefox 4 is faster when I tried it first time. of course, it's still slower than Chrome. but it looks OK. by the way, ironically, safari is slower than firefox 4 now. well, I deleted it long time ago. honestly, safari is crap. anyway, maybe your mac or PC has some problem. you need to maintain some files or OS.

I'm definitely a fan of Firefox 4. It's fast, looks good and isn't nearly the memory hog of Chrome. Plus there are addons for Firefox that I can't live without.

The ad blocker in Firefox can block ads that the ad blocker for Chrome can't. If you watch justin.tv you know what I mean.
