What did Sony bring? Video Rentals? Gee what an innovation....

Sony Brought us a affordable Bluray player :D and great game consol

voted microsoft just because i hate it, but really nintendo deserves the vote, eventhough we might be getting one but mainly because of the wii fit and possibly brain games my mom loves....

lol, awesome, e²Studios and Sky Blue. :D

I have yet to watch Nintendo's and Sony's Press Conference.

I guess I'm just happy seeing more Resident Evil 5 and Mirror's Edge, but so far, that's about it. Gears of War 2 was kinda neat. Fallout 3 has gotten my eye.

So, uhh, nothing about Splinter Cell: Conviction? :(

Yeah, we've seen so much originality from Microsoft and Sony's keynotes this year. No, wait, we've seen a lot of sequels and maybe one or two titles that are original.

You are right that Sony and MS don't have original IP's flooding the market, and this E3 was a poor showing, but they are giving their fans what the fans want. More Gears, more God of War, more Final Fantasy, etc. There are some big name original IP's from 3rd party devs for those two consoles like Dead Space or Infinite Undiscovery. It just feels more diversified whereas the Nintendo camp feels like we all just wait between the core 4 franchises.

EDIT: You know, I'm thinking more and more as I read these threads that maybe I need to have a greater diversity of things I obsess over.

That does it, I'm logging off.

And being all elitist is awesome btw, makes you seem like your opinions are worth a lot more than ours.

+1 for Nintendo doing horrbily

i can't believe i said that i mean look at my username!

maybe this is all a dream and i will wake up to find out that Nintendo just announced the new Mario and Zelda and are ready to pwn microsoft/sony this year

i know the above isn't true, but ima still in step one, denial
(happy thoughts, happy thoughts,.......)

At least the presentation was original. Come on! A 'powerpoint' made in LittleBigPlanet??? Who couldn't like that!?

Dude, don't take it personally, I wasn't trying to stick the finger in your face. I just got a headache from all the E3 hoopla and from the realization that I've gotten a lot more worked up discussing games than actually playing games, and that I've spent more time thinking about the games business than about matters of greater importance.

It was a matter of me making my case again and again and then thinking that I should use my brainpower somewhere else before my head explodes.

If that insults you, then we got greater differences than our opinions about E3.

Thing is we know Nintendo are working on these titles. They just didn't want to announce any details (for whatever stupid reason). We pretty much know, from E3 and interviews yesterday, that there's a new Zelda, a new Galaxy-style game and a new Mario DS title in the works. Sounds like Samus has been put to bed for a while. Kid Icarus is being developed. No word on F-Zero or the rest.

Microsoft brought us their version of the Mii and SingStar.

Nintendo brought us their version of Rock Band-lite.

Sony brought us their version of the Top Gear TV show & lots of pre-rendered nonsense.

I don't remember feeling so depressed about my hobby... :(

The only plus points were the confirmation that the Mario and Zelda teams are "hard at work" and the rather tasty looking Resident Evil 5.

I can't believe I'm gonna say this but I'm SICK to my very core of Mario and Zelda and all these Nintendo franchises, I mean I grew up with this franchises and I've played dozens of games (every version of mario kart, every iteration of mario platforming games, every 2d and every 3d zelda game) but now I'm sick of this, if Nintendo needs these franchises to stay alive then they are going to be in some serious problems. Mario Kart Wii was a clone of the DS game and wasn't too exciting, it actually felt like it came out of an automatic Mario Kart game maker instead of real human beings, Smash Brothers was a clone of Melee though it was pretty good, Galaxy was amazing but mainly because of the setting and the comeback of Mario 64 gameplay, Twilight Princess was good but just a big fat echo to Ocarina of Time.

I don't think I can't stand to play Zelda and Mario for the millionth time.

The worst things is, all these games could (and some can) be played with a regular gamepad and would probably be (some are) much better with it  says a lot about Nintendo's real opinion on the Wiimote.

I love Nintendo but they need to realize Mario and gimmicks are NOT going to last them forever, yeah the Wii is selling great but once the new gen of consoles starts right around 2010-2011 then Nintendo is going to be in a pickle.

MotionPlus add-on? What the hell is that? I can understand if it would be used for better 1:1 mapping but I just find it completely unnecesary, a Wii controller is now nearing a $100 considering the nunchuck and the possible price of this MotionPlus add-on.

Zero love for the DS? Come on Nintendo, that's a perfectly fine handheld and is selling better than ever, surely you can't just go and neglect it and if you are, then release something new, I absolutely adore my DS but the hardware is starting to show it's age, I remember playing games with better graphics on 1994  and it would all be fine if developers catered to the hardware and released games on 2D with good gameplay or whatever but all they release is console wannabees, GTA: ChinaTown wars? How is that ever going to work? It HAS to be in 2D and 2D GTAs are not that great anyways.

So yeah, it's quite obvious I think Nintendo's presentation was the most dissapointing, I'm sick by their recent attitude of putting gimmicks on everything and luring non-gamers and then trying to satisfy gamers with the same ol' franchises, these guys created Mario and Zelda, they SURELY can come up with a new IP, at this rate my grandsons' childhood games are going to be exactly the same as mine!

You can flame Microsoft and Sony all you want but they are making a lot of stuff happen for their consoles and they are actually bringing something new to the table, extravagant graphics and extensive online experiences might be or might not be as good as the classic days of old but heck at least it's something new and great. Yeah yeah, the Wiimote is "innovative as heck" but Nintendo themselves have proved games are stil just as fun if not better on a traditional gamepad (Smash Brothers, Twilight Princess and Mario Kart Wii anyone?).

Same goes for Capcom's retarded decision to make Megaman 9 8-bit, I'm all for retro since these are games I originally played in their prime but they can't be this lazy, Megamn 9 looks exactly like the NES games I played DECADES ago! If I wanted to play those I would, I don't need companies releasing the ninth game in the series and have it be the same as the first.

And there we go, all vented now ;):):D

P.D: This isn't directly related to BoyBach's quote or directed personally at him, it's just something I quoted to start my post.

Twilight Princess is better with a controller? Nah, I'd rather go for the better aiming on the Wiimote. Mario Kart? Much more fun with the wheel.

Brawl isn't the kind of game that works well with a motion controller. Just as Wii Sports wouldn't work well with a standard controller.

I'd take them core Nintendo games over all these BigExplosion 8 and SoapOperaDramaFighter 6 (must stop doing these now). I just look at these titles and think that "yea that concept was stolen from an indie game" to "another game for the masses", which usually includes oversized guns, marines, sports licenses et al. Nintendo aren't innocent but I'd take them over the above.

And frankly I'd love to have Mario still going when I've got grandkids. To be able to say "I was playing the first of these games!".

Twilight Princess is better with a controller? Nah,

I agree with him, for me Twilight Princess was runined by the wii remote control scheme. The horse battles with orcs for example were monuments of sore wrists and laborious chores.

I hated Twilght Princess on the wii so much I paid 'more' for the cube version instead and it made the game play so much better.

Considering the topic of this thread, I have to post this link. The second panel in particular made me laugh my a** off.

Ok, here I have to really disagree with you. My friends and I cannot wait for Megaman 9. I love Megaman, and bringing back this style makes me want to play it even more. It will be a new Megaman game while at the same time providing nostalgia about the hours and hours of fun I had with Megaman 2 (and others). I cannot wait for this.

It was a very close race between all participants, as nothing both new and fantastic was shown. The only real news was that FF LIX or whatever would no longer be a PS3 exclusive title. Modest announcements about sequels were made, but mostly it was the unveiling of expanded content like movie rentals and TV that are all very nice and certainly add functionality to my console that I might even take advantage of here and there, but where oh where are the freaking games?

In the end, my vote has to go to Nintendo. That being said, I admit to a passing interest in Wii Music and Wii Games Resort.

close race .. i would have voted "all three sucked .. hard" .. all in all this E3 will be only remembered for the final fantasy main series going multiplattform

and you gotta love sony for their "innovating and groundbreaking games" talk only to have the first 5 games in the montage being sequels and then talking about video stores

that said the new Madworld footage looks insane ... i can hear the german censors crying tears of joy hundreds of kilometers away

oh and capcom porting dead rising from 360 to wii ? talk about a surprise which went totally under the radar

I agree with him, for me Twilight Princess was runined by the wii remote control scheme.

I don't know about that...I enjoyed playing TP with the nunchuck + Wiimote...it added a fresh feel to the game. I don't think I would enjoy the game as much as I did(It was very little enjoyment in whole) maybe it was the new "NEW" but it was cool at launch.

Wait wha.....Dead Raising for the wii...yeah go on CAPCOM just milk it dry.

The wii has become the official cow console...just put your old **** on it, add some wobble and out comes the milk.

Bless

 Well, from an opinion standpoint I disagree with that pretty hard. I've been gaming since Pitfall, Pong and Karateka and I grew up on Mario and Zelda. To say I'm still fond of them is a pretty big understatement. One of my favorite things about the Wii is being able to play through all of those old games (come on Majora's Mask!) while I wait for the next helping, and I agree with raggedjimmi, the Wii controllers just made Twilight Princess better. Aiming with that puppy was sweet.

But that aside, I think it is pretty clear that Nintendo does not need those franchises to stay alive. They haven't had a new title in years and they didn't even update us on them except to say the next versions are being worked on.

I don't think I can't stand to play Zelda and Mario for the millionth time.

BLASPHEMY! :D

Aside from not thinking either MS or Sony will release a new console by the end of 2011, I think that the current trends don't support that at all. The Wii is already selling more and is light years behind on power, storage and graphics quality than the 360 or PS3, those systems with the "hottest games." I'll bet Nintendo releases a new console before they do, and upping their power and capabilities will probably have the same effect as it did this time, which is to say lining up behind Nintendo.

Zero love for the DS?

Not sure which presentation you were watching, but the one I saw, the DS got almost as much time devoted to it as the Wii. Sure, for the most part the updates sucked, but that just means it was on par with the Wii.

I'd have to agree. And I invariably ended up pointing the Wiimote offscreen periodically which gets you jolted out of the immersive game experience.

If it had offered 1:1 motion control it could have been great; but arbitrary gestures (shake controller from left to right to do a spin attack) make no sense, don't improve immersion in the game and take longer and are more difficult to do than hitting a button.

oh and gimmicks & party games can totally "win" generations .. as seen by the ps2 in europe where the last 3 years (before the ds + wii took over) it was kept afloat by Singstar ,Eye Toy, Singstar, Buzz and more Singstar

Whoever is complaining about how Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft is not satisfying the hard core gamer and then goes on about how they are not making another sequel to their favorite pet franchise needs to pipe down.

Have no worries. EA Sports will keep barfing out titles with their slightly innovative new features piled on year after year. Chances are if you want to shoot a zombie, alien, Nazi, robot, terrorist or any combination of them there will be a AAA title new game for you every year. Same goes for car racing sims and fighters filled with hott fighter ladies and their ever-bouncing boobies.

I could probably keep playing Mario games as long as they are made, but I'm excited about Little Big Planet because it's new, innovative, and not some figgin' sequel. Where are the games like that? Okami. Ico. Pikmin. Viva Pinata. Games filled with ideas that I've never seem before a zillion times.

If you're really*that* annoyed that there isn't a new Zelda or Metroid coming out... come on. It's friggin' Nintendo and WE ALL KNOW they take FOREVER and delay their titles over and over again. It will be here eventually and chances are it will be pretty darn cool. Let's all just cross our fingers that maybe this lame E3 conference means the developers are making games full of new ideas instead of all the same predictable dreck we get every year.

I wish...

to everybody who thinks that Nintendo needs new original games don't forget about Disaster: Day of Crisis and Project H.A.M.M.E.R that accoding to Wikipedia is still in development

You have to take E3 into context. If anything, E3 is Microsoft's only major chance during the year to be in the spotlight. They never dominate at Tokyo Game Show or the Game Developer Conference. So, good for Microsoft. The 360 has become as very viable gaming platform. And their announced updates will continue that trend.

As a PS3 owner, I can't help but worry that Sony has major issues. Their press conference did nothing to inspire confidence for either the PS3 or PSP platform. Sony has major challenges ahead. Why can't a conglomerate like Sony launch a movie store with the vast majority of their own studio's titles? Or for that matter their television studio's properties? It's just pathetic. They are always one step behind Microsoft.

As for Nintendo, they announced what I expected them to announce. Nothing more and nothing less. Super Mario Galaxy was released last November. We know it's not time for another Zelda. What did you expect them to do? We got Animal Crossing, Wii Sports 2 and voice chat. Other than announcing additional storage support, the vast majority of Nintendo's main IPs have been released---Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc.

All of those you listed have been released for the Wii except Zelda. Twilight Princess is a GameCube game released with a different control matrix for the Wii. Time for a new Zelda to be on the shelves, no. Time for a sneak preview and more information because release is relatively soon, yes.

Not that no Zelda announcement was the only concern, but it definitely a big one.
