Animal Crossing didn't even look like a Gamecube game, it looked identical to the N64 original. The Super Mario theme they performed was almost painful to watch, how long will they milk a single theme song? And yes Reggie and the rest made themselves look like idiots. The guy who spoke for Sony was the most comfortable guy to listen to. Of course their show was full of prerendered game concepts.

The 1:1 thing has me pretty happy. I just had to watch the LAME videos, but none the less it was impressive.

Capcom's Dead Rising is finally coming to Wii, so I'm pretty stoked about that, especially if they use this new Wiimote update.

I'm wondering how they are compensating for the Wii's lesser power. That game made the 360 chug when hundreds of Zombies filled the screen at once. Granted it was more or less a 1st gen 360 game so with some mega optimizing and SD graphics maybe it will work out?

1:1 with the sledgehammer? or the chainsaw? :D

When I first saw a Dead Rising preview, I was at the store that my friend used to manage and both of us had the same thought at once, that a Wii version would be fun.

The Wii will definitely be scaled back, but if they do it right, I don't think it will take too much away from the game. I think if it were being made for the 360 now, It would probably look better and run with very little slowdown. I know that early 360 games relied heavily on the GPU, as developers were figuring out its 3 cores.

360 had the undisputed best show but cmon, how can anyone rate Sony as the worst with this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrWWbhaZKxM

Thats the most creative way to show financial reports ever.

Nintendo just had this guy

loldrums.gif

ok forget what I said, Nintendo had the best show

^ I've seen that method done at least twice whilst studying multimedia and design ;) I tried working one into Garry's Mod with massive fail attached.

Annoying at how these companies give us financial and sales reports at E3. Wouldn't that be best saved for a more internally centric show? E3 is about the games, dammit.

Too close? It was bang on!

Vid reminds me of Cassetteboy, which is never a bad thing.

Yeah Nintendo's was damn pathetic.

If anyone wants to play music, I found a way how before release.

1. Open up iTunes and play a random song

2. Waggle controller and spin around and crap

Enjoy! :apple:

Honestly, it seems as if Nintendo wants to sell hardware and peripherals only now. With the new Wii Resort or whatever you need to buy the "motion plus" attachment, granted one comes with the game, but if you want to play with your friends you'll have to buy more. With the balance board for snowboarding/skating games that are coming out, it really seems as if they are content to push the peripherals rather than new software. Don't get me started on Animal Crossing, when I first saw that in their presentation I thought, wow that's a good looking DS game, then it was announced for the Wii. The only thing that remotely interests me coming for the Wii is the Mad World game by Sega, that looked really interesting, albeit aimed to a more mature audience.

Other than that, I pretty much agree with the penny arcade strip.

Corrected that for you :p

Zing!

It's obvious that animal crossing and mad world are not being marketed towards the same demographic. I will concede that over the top violence does tend to appeal to more immature gamers. However, the art style used in Mad World is interesting, and if nothing else it's a new IP for the Wii, which some would argue they are in desperate need of.

, which some would argue they are in desperate need of.

God yeah! The way they are killing off big IP's at nintendo is shocking.. No Pilotwings... No WaveRacer anymore (going on comments that the closest we will get to it is the level in Wii Resort) ... and probably no F-Zero :(

edit... from EuroGamer

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata thinks predicting how long a console will last for is "nonsense".

He believes hardware should only be rethought when developers can no longer innovate on it.

And release lots and lots of add ons

"Deciding upon a certain time period that someone can sell is becoming a nonsense," Iwata told the BBC, referencing Sony's 'ten-year plan'.

"After all, the primary concern for me is not to let consumers purchase hardware but to enjoy software.

Even if they do have to buy lots and lots of add ons

"Having said that, however hard our software developers try create new unprecedented titles with great ideas eventually there'll be a day when developers say they have no more means with the hardware, that's exactly the time we need to introduce people to new hardware," added Iwata.

in the guise of more add ons ......

Q. Following on that, it was a risk to come out with a console that deliberately didn’t court hardcore gamers, and with such a different control scheme — particularly after the GameCube (which enjoyed only moderate success). At what point did you know that the risk had paid off?

A. The first that I’d want to clarify is that the concept that Wii intentionally does not cater to core gamers is probably a misconception, and perhaps one that’s almost a PR tactic used by some of the other companies to paint us as a company that’s not targeting core gamers. But in fact, while we may not be focusing on the high-end graphics and technology that core gamers would typically be drawn to, the types of games we create, and continue to create, are certainly games that people who play games would certainly want to continue playing.

I think that there’s probably one other element to it, and that’s that our view of how we use E3 has changed. For a very long time, E3 was an event where — and certainly Nintendo included — catered specifically to the core gamer. Now we look at more … an opportunity for us to introduce new concepts and new types of play that we intend to bring to the broader audience, particularly because of the media that gathers at E3 now.

So while attending an E3 event like this, they might be given the impression that Nintendo is no longer focusing on the games that appeal to the core gamer, in fact we’re still working on many of those titles, but it’s just not the type of event where we’ll be showcasing that anymore.

Nintendo generally shows their guns in November, so there's no worries.

He can say that, and I'm glad to hear it, but my problem isn't that Nintendo has said they won't be catering to hardcore gamers (since they haven't), my problem is that actions speak louder than words (especially drumset Wii Music actions) and everything they showed at E3 doesn't.

Seems to me he is just trying to play it off. I don't directly equate "high-end graphics and technology" with hardcore gaming. And even if Nintendo has decided to not use E3 as a place that primarily caters to hardcore gamers - as he said later - they should have at least spent more than the 5 seconds they vaguely did. ("Mario and Zelda teams are working." No $***, we didn't think they were on vacation.) Why not at least spend half the time catering to your audience? Safe bet that 95% or more of the people watching E3 - either in person, webcast, or recordings after the fact - are hardcore or serious gamers. I'm genuinely happy that Nintendo has successfully targeted 'new' genres of gamers like older and elderly first time console owners, but dude... they weren't watching.

I realize I'm a bit pessimistic following their E3 presentation, but this article, a few days afterwards, just reads to me like they are trying to make up for their crap keynote.

Yeah, because these supposed hard core gamers are nothing more than pampered elitist that thrive on games that are an insult when compared to their PC genealogy. I often call them hard-corn, because it seems to be a bit more accurate. I wonder what Miyamoto thinks about them?

Speaking of hardcore, the guy from Wired referred to Animal Crossing in this manor. I guess we all have our definition of this marketing buzzword.

I didn't like Nintendo's E3 showing as a whole, it was rather lame, mainly because it lacked variety, but I was certainly impressed with the 1:1 update, because it changes EVERYTHING. Wii Sports is still a better game than most core games, so if they can pull off this level of play with Wii Resorts, than it will be another great game all around.

I wanted more news about a Zelda etc., but I'll just have to wait until later this year it seems. Last year was rather lame also, so I've grown used to it.

I know that their casual target wasn't watching, but the main-stream media was and they tend to eat up this sort of vomit with a smile. Nintendo was catering to them, not us. But on that note, maybe that's why they were seen playing some of the core games, to show us that they still support this area of gaming?

Look at Capcom. Things were looking pretty gloom with them, as in their games all seemed geared towards a much younger mind. I was certainly worried that I would not see another game like RE4 anytime soon, but they delivered with Dead Rising. I have confidence that Nintendo will do something similar. The only company I've lost all respect for, is UbiSoftz. They can DIE DIE DIE! *happy thoughts* :)

It Happens.

We're into the 3rd year of new systems, things get watered down at this point, so what. They eventually figure things out and we have some more fun.

It's about time they went more "online community" with Animal Crossing, I just doubt they did enough.

The new motion control will be great, maybe now we can finally putt on a golf green accurately.

and you know all the haters will be buying wii finally just so they can live out their Jedi wet dreams. :p

edit: What's up with hating add-ons? Would you prefer having a controller that isn't improved? They found a way to improve the controller dramatically, and instead of making you buy a whole brand new controller, they make it a less expensive ADD-ON.

SO YEAH, THANK NINTENDO FOR MAKING ADD-ONS.

I think it's more about them not including the tech from the start. Which might not have been available/affordable back when the Wii launched.

But really I'd prefer them to squeeze it into a new controller. I'd rather keep everything important self contained.
