Thanks!

Just wanted to say thanks viper440, your instructions worked just fine for me as well. The sensitivity on this mouse is through the roof, though!

I had no issues getting the Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 (not the presenter) working using just the regular Setup Bluetooth Device wizard and selecting Mouse.
While I do find that the mouse is usually very accurate and smooth, it can act quite jerky at times.
I contacted MS support about official MAC support and the do say it's on the way (including Bluetooth keyboard support for the Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000/8000) but is likely months down the road.
BTW - I am using SteerMouse to remap the mouse functions for expose and 'back'

Okay. Now the whole thing doesn't work at all.

Can the recent 10.4.9 update affect it? The BT icon has dotted line horizontally over it, what does that mean? Apples BT keyboard is working with no problems!

With mouses own bt-dongle it works for maximum one minute and then it quits working. When I unplug and plug the dongle again it works another minute.

With Steermouse, no luck. With MS drivers, no change.

Please help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!

Changes in 10.4.9

I can't seem to repeat it, but I also had problems with those instructions once I upgraded to 10.4.9. It seemed like it never actually "paired" the mouse even though it got added as a favourite on the list.

I then just made sure that the first thing I did was

1. "Setup Bluetooth device" from the bluetooth menu bar
2. Continue past the introduction
3. Choose "Any device" and continue
4. Click on "Passkey options" and choose "Do not use a passkey with this device" and press ok
5. Choose your mouse and continue.
6. Continue till you finish the wizard.
7. Now when you follow those original instructions they seem to work again.

I managed to get it working with dongle without cutting the signal by uninstalling the drivers and then reinstalling ms drivers.

But no matter what instructions I follow - I cannot get it working without the dongle. I can find the device and add it to favorites, but it just says:
Paired: No
Configured: No
Favorite: Yes
Connected: No

I am really regretting buying this mouse.

I have exact the same problem... Any1 found solution since?

I just purchased the Microsoft Mouse 8000 and after working with it for a long time have finally figured out the following procedure to successfully "connect" the mouse with OS X. I believe this is the best mouse available right now for any bluetooth notebook, Mac or PC.

The steps below have been verified to connect my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 on my MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33 with Mac OS X 10.4.8, updates as of 1/1/2007.

1. Turn on the mouse
2. Press or hold down connect button until light flashes alternating red and green
3. Click Bluetooth tray icon; Browse Device...
4. If the device "Mouse" is not in the list click search, then click browse.
5. Next to search button it will say "Device does not have the necessary services."
6. Click Cancel; Quit Bluetooth File Exchange
7. Open System Preferences; Bluetooth; Devices section
8. Settings section; Click the device ID in the list of your mouse, Add to Favorites
9. Turn Bluetooth Off, Turn Bluetooth On
10. Light should stop blinking and the device will show up with status "Connected: Yes" in bluetooth device list.

Notes:
- The device name comes through as (null) and instead uses the device address for the name but this does not appear to effect functionality. Also OS X does not say that the device is "paired", only "connected" but it this doesn't seem to matter as it connects when available.
- When doing this I also had the Microsoft IntelliPoint 6.1 software installed, I'm not sure if it's necessary. In the Microsoft Mouse preference pane, About Microsoft Mouse, Mouse Info it states "No Microsoft mouse devices found".
- The mouse seems to be more jittery in OS X than it is in windows, possibly because the advanced features of the windows software like battery performance adjustment are not available.
- The left, right and pause/play buttons on the bottom appear to not work.
- The back and forward buttons can be programmed through the Dashboard & Expose preference pane as mouse button 4 and 5.
- It might be possible to use a mighty mouse or the following article to further configure buttons 4 and 5:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050806042924384
- I also have the mouse installed and working with a Boot Camp partition on the same system. After it is initially setup in both OS'es it is not necessary to re-pair the mouse when switching between OS X and Windows.

Thanks viper0440 its working

Thanks for the info about the drivers.

I got it now working with my macbook pro with built in bluetooth. But actually it feels now more jittery and laggy. Anyone else having the same feeling? Like the refresh rate of mouse movement is too slow or something like that.

PS: I hate this mouse

PPS: Yes, connection lost all the time. What a piece of junk. Back to included dongle.

EDIT: After a few minutes it started to behave better! Hopefully it will work now.

Thanks for the instructions viper. It was gonna drive me nuts. I picked the mouse up at a closing CompUSA with the bluetooth dongle missing so using the dongle wasn't an option ;)

Running fairly well with the 6.2 drivers that Microsoft's released. Matches my MBP wonderfully. I like the feel of my Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth better, but it's being occupied by my desktop presently, so this will do (plus it matches better).

So does those extra buttons work with those new drivers ? (using built in bluetooth)

yeap

THX viper0440 :)

One week ago Intelipoint 6.2 drivers where relased - they now detect WLM8000 conected with build in bluetooth but you still need to use your trick to make it work :) The signal streinght and battery metter seem not to work and performance / battery slider works kinda strange.

Wow. Thanks for this. I just installed it, and I haven't had any problems yet. In fact, once I installed it, the mouse was already recognized and set up. Very nice. (Of course, that's probably because I already had the mouse in my bt favorites and all, but still, it's nice to not have to do anything else).

So far so good.

So are we saying the 8000 (and I really fancy the presenter model) works without workarounds if you install its new drivers?

Doug

Unfortunately NO - with the new drivers installed you still need to use viper0440's trick to make it work but after that it works great.

Bought this mouse yesterday. Connected it using viper's trick and IntelliPoint 6.2 drivers/soft.
At first it was very laggy with built-in BT (smooth with the dongle), but I just moved performance up one bit and now it works flawlessy with built-in BT.

Very nice mouse, superb built quality (the Aluminium part doesn't let your hand sweat), and it's nice to finally have _real_ second button :D

Is anyone else having issues with the the cursor sensitivity while using IntelliPoint 6.2 with built-in BT? Even at the fastest setting the cursor is very slow; requiring me to move the mouse nearly a foot to move the cursor from the far right to left.
The movement is smooth and responsive, just slow... This occurs for both the 'OS' sensitivity and the MS sliders.

Kernel Panic & Sleep mode

Hullo all,

I recently purchased one of these Wireless Presenter mice. As is often the case, this is an excellent idea, somewhat poorly implemented on the first try.

I've had lots of challenges with the bluetooth setup, but it now seems to work most of the time (using the internal BT, w/Viper's trick). I still have some odd behaviour when I first switch on the mouse, it connects, and disconnects a few times, and eventually it stabilizes.

The BIG problem I had was a Kernel Panic when I closed my MBP, without first turning off the mouse. When I re-opened it, the system became very unhappy, and crashed with this in the panic.log:

I have opened a support case with Microsoft. We shall see what kind of committment they have to using this mouse with the Mac by their response. :)

If you're doing anything important on your Mac, I'd recommend turning on auto-save in all your apps (isn't it already?) when using this driver. :)

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but the whole reason I wanted a BT mouse was to NOT have to deal with a dongle.

what is going on with the MS-Mac communication? UGH!

I have been looking at BT mice on NewEgg, this one looks like the best.

Do you have to use the dongle or not? I don't want to pay a premium if I still have to use extra hardware. I will mostly be using this at work in Windows, so OS X issues don't scare me.

I have been using this mouse without the dongle (built-in BT on Intel MacBook Pro). You need to follow Viper's setup, but once that is done, I've had no trouble with it, other than a one-time kernel-crash as noted in my previous post.

My case with Microsoft has apparently been escalated to a manager. I'm not terribly optimistic about a positive resolution as yet, but I do have hope. :) At least I haven't experienced the crash again. But now I'm very careful to turn the mouse off _before_ I close the lid.

Regards,
Pat

II still have some odd behaviour when I first switch on the mouse, it connects, and disconnects a few times, and eventually it stabilizes.

I have exactly the same problem and it drive me nuts. Any tips to fix this ? This happens _only_ in OS X, it works flawlesy in Windows

Has anyone noticed that when you're connected via the built-in Bluetooth, the cursor jumps about every 2-3 seconds while you're moving the mouse (as if it doubles your current speed and direction for a moment)?

Increase performance bar at the intellipoint menu. In fact.. set it to the max, it will give you very smooth performance..
