LethalWolfe said:All reality shows are fake. Are they as scripted as sitcoms? No, but they aren't far behind.
Participants are chosen for specific reasons (it's not like they randomly follow people around). Producers and story editors guide the story arc of the show for the season. In post production context is ripped to shreds and everything is reassembled into the story the producers want to sell. If the producer wants to portray person X as a d*ck then person X gets portayed as a d*ck. Person X could be the nicest guy ever but everyone who watches the show will think he's a d*ck. Reasons like that is why some people, for ethical reasons, refuse to work reality shows.
Networks aren't going to dump hundreds of thousands of dollars into a TV show and just pray that the people they are filming do something interesting enough to attract viewers.

What is really boils down to is just what Lethal has said. The director and the editors have the final say as to what the viewers see. They choose the camera angles, they choose when to cut and when not to and they choose how the final piece is assembled. Despite even the most careful planning and efforts to make a piece "real" and "subjective", the viewer is still at the whim of the director's tastes.

Hey now, there are a few episodes w/ guys... their worries and anxieties are a little different, however, "Everybody will think I'm lame if I can't get alcohol there!" or "That girl I like probably won't even want to go, I don't want a party if she doesn't come!"sarae said:Like most everyone else, I hate those whiny girls (why is it always girls?) in that show. But there's a certain joy in knowing that they think they're so special, not only getting the party that costs more than the average person's wedding, but having MTV tape it......and then realizing that just about every episode (I like watching the ends) winds up with her in the other room in tears.
