I think that a new episode comes on tonight. For anyone interested... ;)

Oh shoot i was at work... I do for the most part like watching it though. Its just I cant belive how spoiled somepeople are.

I don't think these kids are faking their bitchiness. Maybe they don't seem like that in real life because they hide it well in public. But at home, or when they're not in a very public setting like at a high school, maybe they ARE that bitchy.

I think that if MTV were to tell me to act like an a**hole, I don't think I'd do as good a job as they did, so they're either very good actors as well, or they're not faking...

This show is the root of all that is evil in this world.

In the end they lose though, you can't make a person happy if having a freshman at their party makes them unhappy. I bet at least one of the children featured on this show ends up commiting suicide just because they have grown up in such an unhealthy way.

I plan on being rich one day :p. Kids? I'm not so sure. I'd have to adopt because of... er... biological reasons ;), but I'd make sure that my kids know that ungratefulness and rudeness (above all) will not be permitted.

Eh, in this part of CA, you couldn't get a shack for $300,000. A habitable house is at least $600,000.

Don't feel bad, here in Honolulu there are virtually no homes for under $500,000 available and if you do find one it is in near tear down condition in less desireable areas. A decent single family house in a decent neighberhood can easily cost well above $600,000. There are many homes here well over a million that are far from being anything special.

At least in the Bay Area you can somewhat easily move elsewhere and commute if you still work in the area. Here in Honolulu we are stuck on a 500 square mile rock so the only options is to deal with it or move at least 2,000 miles away.

Here in Hawaii we also have something called lease hold properties which leads folks from the Continental US into believing that they can actually afford to live here. Basically Lease hold means that you just buy the House or Condo unit but not the real property which you only hold the lease for which is good for an X amount of years. Once your lease runs out all you are at the mercy of the property owner which can decide to renew or not renew in which case they buy the Home or Condo Unit back. We have many leasehold properties well over a million some of them Condos!! and you still don't own any land.

Not to turn this thread into politics, but here's my take. Don't overtax the rich. The rich are able to get around taxes, through charities and other methods. The people who get screwed are the upper middle class, who cant afford to hire someone to avoid taxes.

Don't overtax is a fine principle but equally, you shouldn't undertax them by having everyone earning over £35k or so paying the same %. All that does is allow the rich to continue getting around taxes while screwing the upper and lower middleclasses who are working just as hard for their cash (if not more so than some of the rich) who can't afford tax avoidance relief. Raise the tax % for the superrich, allow them more wiggleroom by good use of charitable funds and even if we ended up with the same amount of tax, there would be more 'good cause' money floating around too rather than going towards $450,000 birthday parties.

All reality shows are fake. Are they as scripted as sitcoms? No, but they aren't far behind.

Participants are chosen for specific reasons (it's not like they randomly follow people around). Producers and story editors guide the story arc of the show for the season. In post production context is ripped to shreds and everything is reassembled into the story the producers want to sell. If the producer wants to portray person X as a d*ck then person X gets portayed as a d*ck. Person X could be the nicest guy ever but everyone who watches the show will think he's a d*ck. Reasons like that is why some people, for ethical reasons, refuse to work reality shows.

Networks aren't going to dump hundreds of thousands of dollars into a TV show and just pray that the people they are filming do something interesting enough to attract viewers.

We had a similar discussion to this in one of my film classes pertaining to whether or not documentaries are really subjective. What is really boils down to is just what Lethal has said. The director and the editors have the final say as to what the viewers see. They choose the camera angles, they choose when to cut and when not to and they choose how the final piece is assembled. Despite even the most careful planning and efforts to make a piece "real" and "subjective", the viewer is still at the whim of the director's tastes.

As for the show, I couldn't even watch the commericals for the show let alone allow myself to sit there for its entirety. If there is one thing on this earth that I loathe more than anything else, it is self-centered, egotistical, bratty, selfish people with no idea about how the real world works. Had I watched the show, I am sure I would have broken my friend's TV.

I think you mean "objective" instead of "subjective." :)

I agree that one can only strive towards being objective as one will never actually be completely objective. But I shudder seeing docs and reality shows being talked about in the same breath. A good doc is an educating and/or enlightening look at a real life person, place, event or idea. Reality TV shows are basically game shows. Besides basic similarities in regards to production and post a doc like "Murder Ball" doesn't have much in common with reality show like "Survivor."

The thing that always got to me is that if its a "reality" show then why is there a writers credit at the end.

Like most everyone else, I hate those whiny girls (why is it always girls?) in that show. But there's a certain joy in knowing that they think they're so special, not only getting the party that costs more than the average person's wedding, but having MTV tape it......and then realizing that just about every episode (I like watching the ends) winds up with her in the other room in tears.

What the hell are you guys doing watching MTV in the first place??? *shakes head* :p

My thoughts exactly! Just say NO. Turn that ***** box OFF for pete's sake.

I'm still amazed when people I work with say they can't imagine how I do without tee-vee... yeah, it's quite a hardship doing without MTV "reality" shows and all the other garbage that's out there.

Hey now, there are a few episodes w/ guys... their worries and anxieties are a little different, however, "Everybody will think I'm lame if I can't get alcohol there!" or "That girl I like probably won't even want to go, I don't want a party if she doesn't come!"

Really? I've never seen any of them with guys.... oh wait. I did see one where the guy's dad hired him a bunch of female dancers, and all his female guests made fun of them. Man, I think I've seen snippets of too many of the eps!

I think they were jealous since the dancers were 10x hotter than them..... not that I watched the show or anything.

Isn't that 90% of why teenage girls make fun of other girls?

But, you know, I'll have to take your word on that, cuz you know, I was barely watching..
