I do.

not going to happen mate. MACS DO USE PC HARDWARE! clearly you dont know what your talking about.

im afraid apple is not going to give you your "imac screen sharing" thing, and your not going to get a GPS ipod, go buy a iphone for that.

apple has a strict product line and they will stick to it so that they can have products that do not overlap into each others market.

Please read my post carefully. I jumpertweaked G3's processors a long time ago and have been involved with macs since, so I do think I know where I am talking about.

Yes. Apple uses PC hardware. But.. Crappy videosupport. (always have been bad with 3d games) No SLI, Bad integrated graphics. No video in/out. No screensharing No extra monitor possibility for Imac, must I go on??

I don't want a GPS Ipod. I would like to see an iphone with HDSPA, GPS and 160gigs of Harddrive. THAT would rock.

yea ok that may be the case, youve worked on macs a bit, but that doesnt change the fact of my arguement.

its not going to happen

EDIT: if youve had so much practice and experience with macs you should already know how they work.

It is already small enough as a desktop, it would be a big upgrade if apply can pack in a real graphic card, and more memory slots.

It wouldn't make any sense to Apple whatsoever to put in a graphics card. A MacMini with a replaceable card would cannabalize so many iMac and PowerMac (from the non-graphic professionals) sales that it would hurt Apple more than anything else. I too would love to see a replaceable graphics card in a Mini but am certainly holding my breath on that one.

There's a GPS iPhone?!

Speaking of being off-topic, er, I want a Mac Mini. Ahem, I mean a Mac Mini Tower.

haha well not technically.. but u kno it does it so close enuf.

mac mini tower would be good, wouldnt be a mini then but! cauz if you go bigger than mini its normal. mac normal? mac medium? lol idk

Awesome, but would we see it pack down to the sub 500 dollar price of the PPC days?

Oh, and a sub 1000USD Mac laptop too....

Mighty Mac? Or, ahem, how about they call it the... are you ready for this... Powermac. :D
powermac?? i like it!!!

Ah... a Mini-er Mac Mini.

I call Steve Jobs pulling a manila-envelopish stunt.
minier mac mini lol. Mini^2? 2 mini?

i reckon under $1000AUD :p.

I'm getting a mini... my backup computer is a g4 eMac and it is seriously on it's last leg.. switching to a mini would probably lower my electric bill aswell..

you know what could be a good way to go, once you get the mini put your eMac somewhere and remote into the mini. thats what i use my G3 iMac for, even it is good enough to handle remote desktop!!!

What are you talking about here? I must have missed something as I bought a second monitor for my iMac before I got my MacPro....

I'm not sure what person was referring to, but for many of us, the iMac doesn't cover our monitor needs. Why buy an all-in-one if you don't like the display?

In my case, I want a 24" display with multiple inputs for my Xbox 360, Mac, and PC. The 24" iMac has a nice looking H-IPS LCD, but you can't plug the other devices into it and it's not a great gaming LCD (response time) even if you could.

So, MacBook Air components in a Mac Mini.

that sounds credible...as the predominant rumor was one of a much smaller mac mini, not a revised version

how small would a mac mini with MBA components be :|

It can get a lot smaller. Scrap the optical drive, solder on the RAM, and use the components from the Air. It won't be useful at the least though...not the Ive cares.

That sounds like a good way to make the AppleTV smaller, though. And unlike a desktop where there's reasonable expectation to upgrade components and have an optical drive, the AppleTV doesn't really need to have replaceable components (I'd rather see it have external eSata and/or Firewire drive support, since I think that's more accessible to the average consumer). Perhaps these ideas will go to the next gen AppleTV instead of the next gen Mini. Of course I'd also far prefer the AppleTV stay its current size and add a Blu-Ray drive...but I suppose shrinking the other internal components could make room for that in the same form factor.

It can, but I don't think it will at the expense of an optical drive. Ives may be a very creative dude in a minimalist way, but ultimately he (like everyone else at Apple) is subject to Jobs' beck & call.

Jobs' may have a bee or two in his bonnet, but he won't be so daft as to further undermine the already graphically-crippled Mini's appeal to typical switchers. A Mini without optical drive may be oohed & ahhed over by some Apple fanboys, but for most ordinary consumers such a desktop would be a complete turn-off. I think no way will this happen now.

I agree. It's aimed at Apple switchers, as a first time Mac option.

How many would buy it if they could watch a DVD or burn a CD on it?

If the Mini is aimed at switchers, then for current Mac users the only desktop options are a really expensive and powerful Mac Pro and an all-in-one. If they'd only put an HDMI and/or DVI input on the iMacs, I'd shut up about needing the mid-range tower!!

If its aimed at switchers, I'd make it at least semi-competitive. Whether that means a new model with a 3.5" hard drive or taking a small financial hit for 160-250GB 2.5" hard drives is up to apple. Thinking any consumer would be fine these days with 80 and 120GB hard drives is just plain insulting.

Yeah, it's really not giving PC users much credit. Sure, it's good for switching the computer-inept and those with the most basic needs, but there are tons of hardware-savvy PC users who aren't going to switch when their choices are limited to a Mac Thimble, a super-expensive Pro, or an all-in-one.
