You have to tell how fast the Apple public relationship department moved at last time to hire U2 to distract the attention from that issue.

Trust me... the U2 deal was planned overnight, when you have the billions everything is possible.

That makes no sense, the stage was being built for at least two weeks or so. I mean really.

Isn't U2 extremely outdated nowadays? For me, sure. It is very 2000 isn't it? I like some of their albums but they do not look like someone you would like to promote a new 2014 product at all

This has nothing to do with music...

I'm guessing that the iPhone 6 will have some Beats technology built in to the speakers. They're using U2 and they're upcoming stuff to help push this feature.

Well, they are still making pretty good music. Demographically, something a little "outdated" probably fits the average Apple customer who has money to spend. But yeah, it's a bit of a risk if they want to be popular with 16-year-olds. Then again, 30-40-year-olds probably aren't going to like the same music as the 16-year-old, so I don't know what the solution is, other than just skip the music.

Please no. Don't let this be the beginning of crapware on Macs.

I'm telling Bono you said their music is crap.

In 1987, Bono and U2 played in SF and then proceeded to spray paint "rock and roll stoops the traffic" on some outdoor art made of stone.

The half the city turned against Bono for a day. It was ugly. I think he paid to get it clean. They are Irish, pranksters, you know the lot.

I wonder if they'll cut the keynote stream off before their performance like they did with the U2 iPad, because zomg the Internet is scary.

Be sweet to see U2 at the keynote.. but I still think the big white box is a "house" to demo HomeKit. Doesn't take 12 days to build a stage that size.

ps- 1000th post, yay me.

:apple:

Looks like someone on here might had nailed it earlier when it was shown that Apple was "building" something for the keynote. They suggested they heard a rumor about U2 and their new album and suggested they think it's a stage for them and pointed out that what we could see looked like a stage (I could see what they were talking about too).

Now we get this. If they are right then this is a major let down! Really don't want some kind of special stage built in a keynote to hear some kind of band play. While I love music, if I were to attend a keynote I don't think I am going to be wanting to hear U2 play a or some songs.

As I said I like some of their albums, I'm 27. But they have no cool factor at all now, I'm not very into today's music but I'm sure there has to be some cool and stylish actual artists to promote this. Let's face it, it's a group of quite old quite forgotten artists which have been under the radar for 10 years or so. Seriously, in 2004 I would have said well done but now?...

Not sure if launching my new flagship product with a concert from a now completely irrelevant band is the direction I would take things. Coming in with mediocrity when the market is flooded with good offerings is pretty meh.

U2 did some great stuff ... 30 years ago. I hope that's not something Apple is aspiring to.

Tbh most customers could give two hoots if Apple has U2 or even Rihanna at their keynote, they just care about the phones.

I know, I has to do with the cool-factor, but I bet you if you ask for cool artists to random people nobody would put U2 between not the 10, but neither the 20 nor even 40 first names

This will be one of the greatest launches ever! U2 stuff, a big white cube outside the Flint Center (which has a larger capacity and was apparently where the first Mac was introduced) and the iWatch?
