I'm on an iPhone 5, and on iOS 8 Beta 1, my multitasking animations have sped up quite a bit, which doesn't seem like an improvement.

It's mainly the animation when you first double press the home button that seems faster, and doesn't give the impression of "stepping back" as it did on iOS 7.

Probably gonna be called out for nitpicking here, but the experience feels jarring now, and isn't so good at communicating context, which is surely the intention of the multitasking animations.

Just wondering if anyone else thinks this, but also whether it's the same for the 5s?

It's the first Beta.

So?

You could perhaps say that for iOS 7, which introduced these new animations, but if they've changed in this beta, surely that was intentional, and represents a change?

Not likely. Lots of things change. Remember panorama wallpaper? Was there in beta 1 in iOS 7 and gone later.

Man I actually love the new animations in multitasking. I'm really hoping Apple will make implement these animations system wide. If they did that, I think the os would certainly "feel" like the fastest iOS to date.

I was really happy with the speed of 7.1's animations but if they were just as snappy as the multitasking transitions I would be all for it.

Oh. My. God. Here we go with the stupid "it's a beta" comments.

As opposed to complaining about the first beta already?

YES it's a BETA. Lots of things will change before it is finalized.

Here's what I said in another thread, in iOS 7 double pressing home opened multitasking immediately with a slower smoother animation. In iOS 8 beta 1 it has a delay just like pressing home to exit an app, but also a notably snappier animation, side by side iOS 7 opens multitasking first, once you're in multitasking it is faster in iOS 8.

It is a bit jarring that multitasking has such a snappy animation, it makes iOS 6 look smooth!

Yes, but a whole feature like panorama wallpapers would have been removed for any number of reasons. Maybe it didn't work reliably enough for Apple or decreased battery life.

The change to multitasking is very small, and as far as I know, is made by changes to a couple lines of code. Changes like that are made and unmade based on whether people liked them or not, so I was curious to see what people thought of it.

I really like it, it makes the phone feel a lot faster overall!

I do actually really like how fast the transition is when you tap an app in multitasking view, and it goes to that app. The app seems to be useable as fast as you can tap in it, in most cases.

Oh get real. Just because someone is wanting to ask what other people thought about something that's different isn't complaining, but all of you whine and complain that people come to a forum about the new iOS to discuss the new iOS and what they like and don't like/what works and what doesn't work.

Makes sense to me. Multitask animation is sped up because thats usually why you multitask, to do things quickly.

The purpose of the iOS 8 BETA release is to give developers a head start to developing new applications that will utilize iOS 8 changes or to update their existing application so it continues to function normally with iOS 8 when it becomes available to the public.

Unfortunately, some users here think it's their duty to install iOS 8 even though they are not developers and state their opinions on what they think of the "Work in Progress" as if Apple personally asked them to beta test iOS 8 and provide feedback.

It's a BETA:

- It will run sluggish
- It will/may crash
- It may run hot
- The screen may not respond promptly
- Animations will be slow

This year it looks like the iOS 8 beta "testers" seem to have a better grasp of what a beta is compared to last year's mental Diarrhea of threads.

Next time less attitude please.

It is entirely plausible that Apple intentionally changed this animation. Nowhere have I suggested it is a bug, and I don't think it is. I was curious if other people had noticed it, and what they thought.

If people don't want to talk about it, then let this thread die. You're doing a great job propping it up right now.

But your very strict definition of a beta suggests that back when the iOS 7 beta launched, we shouldn't have talked about the drastically different UI as it was just a beta, and subject to change, which is silly. I know that betas are important tools for developers for the reasons you stated, but why shouldn't people using the beta, developer or not, talk about this smaller stuff?

I dont mean to come down on you it's just some of the threads from last year were so irritating.

As BETA threads go I always expect a "does your phone do this too?" as I use the rest of you guys as a control group when trying to troubleshoot an issue.

Again, my apologies if I seemed like I was snapping at you. :)

Well, there you go then. If nothing else, we can serve as a handy little control group for you. :D

And yet it seems that developers say things they think should be changed and could be better as well. It also seems that Apple listens to them. So again, get real. And talk about attitude? Then don't get with attitude with people using the iOS 8 forum to talk about iOS 8 like you are some big hot shot. If I came off that I had an attitude, I probably did because it's more annoying for someone to just post, "It's a beta" and be a smart you know what.

Speaking of control group, my battery percentage will not go up. It's stuck at 87% even charging.
That sounds "fun". Maybe try running it completely down until the phone shuts off on its own and then try charging it up all the way to see if gets through that (if you haven't tried it already)?

I don't think the multitasking animation is a bug...it was mentioned that iOS 8 is supposed to be faster than any iteration of 7.x in prior reports before the keynote.

It's a bug. There's a lot of bugs. It's also possibly for development reasons.

Uhh no it wasn't...
