Really really wish they wouldn't have made these things, they're doing much more bad than good. I'm an Apple fan and own a lot of the stock, but the risk they are putting people in with this type of tracking is grotesque. I don't care how its intended to be used, all that matters is situations like this that are increasingly growing and will continue to.

Its cool to defend it, and most will, until your wife or kid is the one in a situation like this. But yeah, go apple.

So you’re saying we’ll see more situations like these where people that we’re supposedly tracked easily find the tracking device and the situation is then resolved? It’s still a non issue.

airtags or others should have a standard in which people can detect if they are being followed. I won't download 10 apps from 10 different companies to check everywhere i go.
Yea, but good luck with that. Once a standard is agreed upon there will be enough variations so that they don’t work together. That’s why RS in RS-32 stood for “reasonably standard.”

"Muscle car."

I'm incredibly happy to see this is the first response to this article.

If this was a Tesla, it would have gone as far as saying 2020 Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor with optional white interior.

When an article needs to specific a popular car for clicks, it detracts from the whole article.

Apple needs to release an Android app for AirTags tracking so people with Android phones can detect if they're being stalked.

I'm seeing a lot of videos on TikTok of people finding AirTags on their car.

Didn't read the article in the very least?! That exists and was explicitly noted.

Plus, most TikTok videos are stupid and staged...

With the horsepower available on the higher trims it most certainly is a muscle car. Unless you're comparing fuel injection to carburetors and the old school petrol smell, it’s as close as you’ll get nowadays 🤣

Yea, having owned muscle cars, sports card and sport sedans, I’d say today cars, in terms of raw performance are muscle cars and certainly are more refined than those of the 60’s and 70’s. Of course, now I own an 80’s BMW…

If you find an AirTag, you put it in a place where you can catch the owners when they come to look for it. Tracking goes both ways.

I have friends who finding an AirTag would result in setting up an ambush.

I really want to get my hands on a chally in before the price gets even more insane. I couldn’t care less about EVs. If the elite can have a private jet I’m having my gas guzzler lmao 😂

I forgot my keys at my buddies GF's apartment. I made sure to let her know that she would start getting tracking alerts so she didn't get freaked out. Kinda wished I could have turned them off but I get why that is not an option.... Mostly because people suck.

They aren’t tracking her if they aren’t moving with her, so she shouldn’t receive any alerts.

Another reason I love apple, the security features they have built in. Make no mistake - devices like this already existed before airtags. However no other vendor would alert you like this to being tracked.

She had them in her purse to meet me later. Makes sense that it would have to be moving with her (and not me) or co-workers would be getting random alerts. Nice to know I dont have to take it off when leaving my jeep in the shop next week.

Wait, so if a thief steals my motorcycle that i've hidden an AirTag on, apple will just let the thief know where my AirTag is hidden so they can track sit down and remove it?! that completely defeats the purpose of why I bought them in the first place!
I feel the same, have AirTags on my motorcycle and my backpacks with a lot of equipment. It would be nice if the thief was alerted that the AirTag was nearby, but they couldn’t play the sound for a couple of hours to keep from being able to find the tag and ditch it. There’s really no perfect system and the best hope is that the thieves use cheap Android phones and are too lazy to download the app.

That‘s all why apple makes it very clear this is to track down lost, not stolen, objects.

I thought the same, saw the click bait headline and thought “Oh, probably a some old Camaro or ‘Cuda” then after the first line, realized it was a stock V6 Charger.
It's less than a $40k vehicle. It's not as if it's some classic that can't be replaced.

I continue to be confused about how AirTags enable anything that couldn't be accomplished by a thief driving down a residential street at night.
You track the owner. Know where they live, where they park the car during the day etc. Most people are creatures of habit, so you learn the best place and location to hit the car, when you are ready. Its also like a working directory of car spare parts. Need a Dodge whatever? Let me look at my list of tracked cars for the parts you need. Simple really.

There is a lot of info on twitter casting doubt on all of this. Apparently, when one tries to find an actual case where an actual car was actually stolen due to an airtag, no such cases turn up, and the canadian report was some sort of speculation.
I get all my advice from Twitter. Its factually based and if you don't believe me, you can look it up on Facebook.

So I have a Mountain Bike that I’ve slowly upgraded over a few years and it’s worth more than most cars. My wife has a carbon fat bike also worth a lot. We wanted to put AirTags in the frames so we could track them if ever stolen. If I’m understanding everything correctly, if they get stolen while on vacation and we follow the thieves by tracking our stolen bikes, they will get a notification that they are being tracked and can disable the AirTag? Then they can also go to the police and claim that we are the thieves? I don’t have any special documentation that says they are our bikes like a car. Horrible design. Guess we won’t be getting these for our peace of mind.

Better twitter than macrumors, citing another article, citing a person, who either doesn’t say what the headline says, or who provides no evidence for it.

Except for when said AirTag is found as pointed out in this journalistic training piece?
And before you start bulk buying these, the limit per ID is 16 I think.
