Short term gain due to covering more devices (OS versions really) with one Jailbreak tool.
If the exploit is put out, then apple with fix and release 4.01 to fix the "signal issues", ect. as well as patch the exploit. If we wait a couple weeks for the promised 4.01 then they can safely put it out. A lot of people will bitch that they want ANOTHER jailbreak exploit because they stupidly updated otherwise.
I'm sure they have a simple something-sn0w and pwnagetool implementation. If that makes any sense.

People read into things anyway they want........this stuff is not easy so have patience everyone else...........Geohots mind is sick when it comes to finding holes and exploits its a shame that people expect things from him him right away......a jailbreak and unlock will come when it comes.........lets just hope that the same ones who b******* and complained at Geohot do not do the same crap to the dev team and comex because they will get sick of it too........back off and give them the time they need to get it right
people do that to dev team and comex .. but they are much more mature and know its part of the territory . GEOHOT got prob thousands of dollars if not more in donations from people.. so the least he could do is just answer a couple questions that are on everyones mind. he shuts people down and then bitches , if he doesnt want people asking about jailbreak why the F would he on his blog show an iphone 4 jailbroken then say well too bad its not comming from me dont ask about it..
This makes no sense to me. Take the iPad, for example. Whether Apple updates OS 3.2 to 3.3 today or next month makes NO difference to people still running 3.2 and want to use the SpiritJB. I guess it depends on how the JB is implemented? If the JB for iOS 4.0 is like SpiritJB, it would make no difference if Apple released 4.0.1 the same minute, or even BEFORE the update, non?

He got thats the key point......nobody knows if he got donations on the iphone 4 as of yet...if he did then shame on him..........nobody gets rashed on more than Geohot.........I agree maybe he should not take donations.........
But if it is released after 4.0.1, it will work on both 4.0 and 4.0.1. Thus more devices (including ones not yet purchased and which will come with 4.0.1) will be able to be jailbroken. Believe me, the Dev Team knows what they're doing even if you don't get it.
Ya gotta love all the 'experts' who are trying to tell the Dev-Team when they should release the iPhone jb. What egos these people have.

This is "spot on correct" even if alot of people don't understand the concept !
Because we KNOW 4.0.1 is right around the corner. The next firmware after that will be several weeks or months later (typically).
In any other case I'd agree but the update at least what we know about it will just display bars correctly... Not such a big deal..
There are allot of people here that could just learn to hack then they wouldn't have to wait for the Dev-team. Since it's sop simple they would already be jail broken. of course most of these same people need learn not too..

Simple. There's a reasonable probability that Apple will release 4.01 to address the reception issue.
It's not what the update does that matters. If the devteam were to release the jailbreak before then, and expose the exploit they've found, then Apple would simply patch the exploit in 4.0.1. The window between the jailbreak and Apple fixing the exploit (with new firmware releases) needs to be as long as possible so that as many people as possible can get their phones, jailbreak and get their SHSH's on file. This is why it's better to wait until just after a firmware update, for the longest possible window
