A big yyyaaawwwwnnnn!!!!

When they do something that disrupts a market (like the iPod/iTunes did, like the iPhone did, like the iPad did), I will wake up.

Yeah, because disrupting entire markets is a piece of cake and supposed to happen every three months or so...

Why does Apple have todo whats already been done by Pandora and others?

In order to steer people towards the iTunes Store when they hear a track they want to buy.

That wasn't obvious? I can't think of any other reason.

so, it's shaping up to be one fully packed WWDC '13! Some of the following are imminent while others are slightly possible.

- iveOS 7
- Mac OS 10.9
- iPhone 5S
- iPad mini 2
- iOS game controller
- iRadio (or whatever it's going to be called)
- Mac Pro
- And a possible announcement of the iTV, plus developer preview to push app developers to prepare for a christmas release?

There won't even be half of those things there.

There will be all of those things at WWDC. Except for possibly the iTV.

Apple will not release 10.9 like they did last year. It will be shown at WWDC imho.

The reason you ask ?

I've been saying it and MR has posted info about it a year ago.

is this really all that? radio? Or are we excited because evidence is building that Apple is working on it? For example, if this was an Android/Samsung rumor, would we be envious or would we bash it to no end?

Personally, I don't get it. I perceive radio is fading. Now we can put what we want on a tiny device that fits in our pocket- every song we like, no songs we don't like. We can discover new music via a wide variety of free services and again buy only what we like. No commercials. No DJ chatter. A best of radio experience without the worst of radio pieces.

I keep thinking this would be like iMorse (code) or iTelegrams, etc. Anyone else working on something like that would get beat down & bashed. Apple works on it and we gush "can't wait to communicate in morse code" or "can't wait to send an electronic telegram."

Maybe I'm just missing something. Is there really something very wrong with Pandora and competitors that only Apple innovation could "fix"? Is there some obvious hole in digital radio now that only Apple can fill? Even if Apple can come up with some way to do it way better than Pandora, Spotify, etc, is way better that exciting?

Like others, I'd rather see some focus on fixing the software already rolled out. But if they do want to roll out a new, next-big-thing, I would hope it would be something more wow-ing than digital radio.

Will someone explain to me what this will do that Spotify and/or Pandora don't already do?

Just curious all the things the HTC One does that the Galaxy S4 doesn't do. What's the point of the HTC One when the Galaxy brand is a lot stronger and more popular and sells more devices. Isn't the HTC One just duplicative?

They don't steer people automatically to the iTunes Store to buy the tracks.

How many people who pay $9.99 per month for Spotify services actually buy music? Since using Spotify, I can't remember the last time I bought a track/album off of iTunes (or anywhere else).

I'm so damn tired of this... just because Apple creates a new service or product does not mean it's automatically innovative, nor does it mean Apple ever claimed it was. It's called competition. Let's also not forget that nobody knows *anything* about this service, and for all you know, it does have some innovative features.

The negativity on these forums is at a staggering high...

It's called sarcasm, dude. Chill out. I think he was saying with iPods being over a decade old and portable music has been around for ever, iRadio might seem a bit redundant...

They are probably scrambling to get it out by summer because Google will more than likely unveil its own music subscription service at I/O in May.

I too will go with a "big yawn" on this one. Apple is at least 3 years late with a steaming music service. As things stand in 2013 - streaming music market is oversaturated, and has very little room for new entrants.

I doubt there are many people saying "gee I wish there was another online radio provider I could give my $8/month to" in 2013.

I bet there's a few that want a streaming radio service that plays just what you want though.

;)

You forgot iWatch. I bet iRadio will be play from the iWristwatch :)

I really hope they do something like Spotify so you can build custom playlists and the likes for a set monthly subscription.

I already use last.fm for music radio :p

Too bad I have lost interest in music. Haven't listened to a music radio station in over 20+ years. Haven't purchased a CD or gone to a concert in over a decade...

But good luck iRadio.

Isn't that Spotify?

I tried Spotify for exactly that reason. I thought I would like having an enormously huge library at my disposal. But in actuality, I find it too time consuming to sift through all the stuff I'm not interested in and taking the stuff I do like and making playlists. Just too much effort. For that reason, I stick with Pandora and just let it feed me. And just sometimes, I find something new...and guess what...I go to iTunes and buy it, because I know, I it will probably be a long time before I hear it again. That's just me though.

No.

iTunes has your music.

iRadio would probably make a station out of your artists.
And play only the music from that artist unlike Pandora which plays some of your artist but also music from other artist.

 All my music is local and if I need a "radio station" I put it on shuffle. If iRadio doesn't tap into the vast Apple music collection, I can't see its usefulness.
