 All my music is local and if I need a "radio station" I put it on shuffle. If iRadio doesn't tap into the vast Apple music collection, I can't see its usefulness.

Wouldn't you like a streaming service play music you don't own ? From one of your favorite artists ? From an album you don't own ?

I like Grateful Dead but I don't own all of their albums. Sure would be nice to listen to some stuff I don't own without buying the whole album or song.

A lot of people think Apple is trying to make some kind of earth shattering service. They aren't .

Merely serving up the music you like but don't own.

It will. Like you, I see no reason to have an offering at all if you can't access any song you want at any time from the iTunes library (ala Spotify).

The feature that the poster you're replying to is essentially referring to iTunes Match + Genius Playlists. That functionality exists today.

If it's like a free version of Spotify Premium, I'll take it. If not, this is the next Ping.

I think I got it. ;) I guess we will just have to wait and see what it really turns out to be.

Only a tiny minority still *actively* listens to the radio. Everyone else has their music collection or Spotify on their phone now.
If this report is true, Apple is trying to "innovate" with a service that they helped to kill 10 years ago. That would be embarrassing, really.

How many people who pay $9.99 per month for Spotify services actually buy music? Since using Spotify, I can't remember the last time I bought a track/album off of iTunes (or anywhere else).

If you are happy paying $120 per year (I guess it's $100 if paid up front), then I'm happy for you and I hope you keep enjoying it.

But, for $120 a year, I can buy 92 songs at $1.30 per song and listen to them whenever I want. I don't care about the thousands of songs available on Spotify, I only care about the 100 or so songs I want to listen to.

It's like cable TV. I really don't care if I have 1,000 channels. I only care about the ten shows that I want to watch.

Last year I purchased Apple TV and fell in love with it. I bought Season 3 of Walking Dead (to each his own) for something like $3.00 or so an HD episode. (Standard def is less.) The episodes usually run 43 to 47 minutes in length. That means that roughly 25% of a one-hour show on cable TV is commercials.

To me it is worth the $3.00 just to save the 15 or so minutes of my time. My free time is worth more than $12.00/hr to me.

Yes. I realize that you can record it on DVR and then fast forward through the commercials. I'd still rather buy it off of iTunes and watch it commercial free.

I'm not interested in subsidizing what everyone else want to watch or listen to with any of these subscription based services. Give me what I want when I want it.

If want to listen to a song, I spend the $1.29 and buy it. If I don't want to listen to a song, I don't bother to buy it.

I am not going to see a movie because a particular actor or actress is in it. I go see a movie because the plot sounds interesting.

I am not going to listen to a song just because a particular artist sings or performs it. I will listen to what I like. An artist may have performed hundreds of songs. I may only listen to one or two.

I pay for Rdio and its awesome. It's leaps and bounds better designed on mobile than Spotify and I have yet to find an artist Rdio doesn't have. Plus it doesn't have some lame connection with Facebook. If Apple were smart they'd just offer Rdio a bunch of money and buy them. Rdios design language would fit right in at Apple.

Why does Apple have todo whats already been done by Pandora and others?

iTunes/iOS/iPod integration (including Genius).
If this is free or very cheap ($5/year), it's going to be great! Otherwise, definitely a positive but not something I'd personally buy.

Well, this is good news. For those who believe Steve Jobs could do no wrong, the fact that Apple doesn't already have the best music streaming service should serve as a reminder that he was guilty of some major gaffes like any human being. He could have had Spotify on a silver platter, but wouldn't take it because "people want to own their music".

It will be an uphill climb to catch up, but if they do it right, it is possible. I think you combine a quality stream with the ability to "add to wish list" or "purchase" on the spot, and you can collect coming and going. But they need some really good intelligence for music selection and personalization built in.

Interested to see what Apple does with this. I'd be quite happy to pay for a yearly/monthly subscription for unlimited access to all of iTunes' music content. If that's the way this thing is going to work.

iOS 7, with iRadio.

People can *FINALLY* listen to music with a portable device. If that isn't innovation, I don't know what is!

It's people like who will bitch and moan no matter what they do. It doesn't matter what Apple does, you'll find something to complain about.

I'm excited to see what they come up with, for better or worse.

If that was sarcasm, you win the internet for today.

If it wasn't...

A prime example of "not thinking before you post" if I ever saw one. :p

see my latest post.

apple - stop trying to be a software company.

you fail at that.

i'll stick with spotify thanks

Another day, another flame
If your signature is true, you must have extremely low confidence in your ability to buy things that you like.

I can't see myself leaving Spoitfy. This would have to be in the $5/month range and comperable to Spotify for me to switch.

Why? Why would a record company want less revenue from Apple than they can get from Pandora?

That's iCloud Core Data sound. It has nothing to do with iCloud's CalDAV servers for calendar, tasks; iCloud's email, or iCloud's document sync, or iCloud's key-value sync - all of which work exceptionally well. iCloud is a collection of services, not just one technology.

That seems to happen to pretty much everyone at one point or another. Apple shouldn't let it happen, but they are obviously working on it.

Too bad I have lost interest in music. Haven't listened to a music radio station in over 20+ years. Haven't purchased a CD or gone to a concert in over a decade...

But good luck iRadio.
