How many people who pay $9.99 per month for Spotify services actually buy music? Since using Spotify, I can't remember the last time I bought a track/album off of iTunes (or anywhere else).
If you are happy paying $120 per year (I guess it's $100 if paid up front), then I'm happy for you and I hope you keep enjoying it.
But, for $120 a year, I can buy 92 songs at $1.30 per song and listen to them whenever I want. I don't care about the thousands of songs available on Spotify, I only care about the 100 or so songs I want to listen to.
It's like cable TV. I really don't care if I have 1,000 channels. I only care about the ten shows that I want to watch.
Last year I purchased Apple TV and fell in love with it. I bought Season 3 of Walking Dead (to each his own) for something like $3.00 or so an HD episode. (Standard def is less.) The episodes usually run 43 to 47 minutes in length. That means that roughly 25% of a one-hour show on cable TV is commercials.
To me it is worth the $3.00 just to save the 15 or so minutes of my time. My free time is worth more than $12.00/hr to me.
Yes. I realize that you can record it on DVR and then fast forward through the commercials. I'd still rather buy it off of iTunes and watch it commercial free.
I'm not interested in subsidizing what everyone else want to watch or listen to with any of these subscription based services. Give me what I want when I want it.

Wouldn't you like a streaming service play music you don't own ? From one of your favorite artists ? From an album you don't own ?
If want to listen to a song, I spend the $1.29 and buy it. If I don't want to listen to a song, I don't bother to buy it.
I am not going to see a movie because a particular actor or actress is in it. I go see a movie because the plot sounds interesting.
I am not going to listen to a song just because a particular artist sings or performs it. I will listen to what I like. An artist may have performed hundreds of songs. I may only listen to one or two.
