Every time I scroll through my songs in the Music it is very slow and laggy and the beach ball comes up and has to think for a bit. The music app worked fine on Sequoia before I upgraded to Tahoe.

Music App is a complete mess.
Looks terrible, the floating bar at the bottom is terrible, I always want to drag it to the top where it belongs, because there is just empty space now...
Music App was completely unusable and beach balling the whole evening, I hope it works again til I get home today.

EDIT: No, not usable.
Every some seconds the beach ball comes up. This app is a complete disaster now and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Working fine for me👍🏻

Lou

It doesn’t even work at all! Just downloaded Tahoe 26 public release and open music and the new features splash screen overlays the App as usual with a new release. But it stays there and is stuck. Can't clear it! Reboot and still can’t play any music at all. What the hell… On MacBook Pro M1. Help please! 😧

Music is working fine for me 👍 Library is intact, I can add to or remove from my library. Plays just fine - EVERYTHING works😇

Yikes! Hopefully Apple fixes this in the next update.
I deleted /Library/Containers/com.apple.AMPArtworkAgent and the Music App is usable again and runs smooth. Was 12GB...
Covers in playlists are gone now but I don't care, I have covers all embedded in the music files. Being able to play music again is what counts. :)

I am running Bartender 6.0.1 and read in another post it may be causing issues. I quit it and my music app seems to be much more responsive

Thanks that worked for me too. However, after I removed it and open Apple Music my covers were all gone of course. So I close Apple Music, added the come.apple.AMPArtworkAgent back and reopen Apple Music and all my covers are back and its still responsive and I can scroll again without the beachball. Weird but it worked.

This also fixed the show/hide status bar issue too.

macOS Tahoe 26.0 installed

Sound Check is useless

All music sounds quiet - have to raise my volume on my audio interface to about double what I used to for the same output volume

Tried that too. Didn’t work for me.
But covers in playlists etc. are coming back now. Just takes quite a while. 😉

Can anyone check if there is a cracking sound while playing music through Music.app (it doesn't matter if it's Apple Music subscription or local Library) and XCode.app is opened?

^^^^Nope - Music plays just fine for me on my Klipsch Powered speakers and sub 👍

I don't have Xcode. Music plays fine through external speakers but I have crackling when I connect my AirPods Pro 2.

I have embedded cover images in all my Apple Lossless (ALAC) files, and I don’t use Apple Music’s streaming service. So my big concern with macOS 26 and the new Music app is:
  1. Will all my embedded covers still reliably show up?
Historically, from Catalina onward (with the transition from iTunes to Music), I often had problems after updates where album art would disappear or fail to render.
In macOS 14 and 15 it was fairly stable for me, so I’m reluctant to re-introduce regressions given my library is huge (100,000+ songs).
  2. The new floating play control bar now lives at the bottom of the Music window. In List View, does this bar block the lower rows of the list (i.e. cover or overlap content)?

Some of the advanced playback features (for example Sound Check, Equalizer settings, Volume Adjust and Start/Stop) are not working when AirPlay playback is enabled.

Is there any hope of getting the equalizer to someday work with AirPlay to HomePods?

Yeah, this was a very strange user choice. Especially since it didn't give us more space but just left a large empty space at the top where the old status bar was. Baffling! I hope they add a user choice to fix the floating bar to the empty space above instead of blocking the lower part of songs in Song View.

I honestly can't believe what I am looking at whenever I am in this view in the Music App, which is very often. I know why they decided to affix the control bar here, to show off the Liquid Glass effects as you scroll, I get it, but at least give us the option to move it. It looks like it's floating, so you feel compelled to move it wherever you want, but you just can't. It's maddening. Visual clarity should not have to rely on what you're scrolling over. It just looks messy to the eyes.

The Music App is still a hot mess in Tahoe as compared to what iTunes used to be, but I will add one positive, the actual music playing from the app via my AirPods Pro sounds truly amazing. Much stronger, fuller, deeper bass. Not sure what they did, but it sounds great. I just wish my eyes weren't crossing while editing playlists and scrubbing songs.

1. They will like before, except the beach ball appears all the time as in my case, only deleting the AMPArtworkAgent folder did help. Covers stay embedded in the files but the Music App won't show them any more. But it seems they reappear after a (very long) while.
2. Yes, in list view the lower rows geht blocked, you have to scroll to reach them.

im tired of fishing for things om all devices, the iPhone one is the worse.
the home app is another mess as well.

I guess I need disconnect my HomePods an ago back to FOOBAR, and Klipsch speaker as that works and sounds much better!

so sad  only want us to subscribe or pay extra to listen music we already purchased in the 1980-2010s

well.  mini Home whatever are out of the music loop!
Red barchetta sounds perfect with fooBAR, Klipsch speakers.
 really doe snot care......yes doe snot!

I installed macOS 26 in a virtual machine and copied over the library file (and linked the external drive with the ALAC files). After leaving it overnight, the embedded covers on 110K songs eventually populated. So it looks like it works as before for me. The new fixed control bar is a mess, however. I really hope we will be able to move it in the future, or just dock it to the empty space at the top as in previous versions.

I futzed around for an hour trying to figure out why the volume appeared to be so low when listening to music with my AirPods when I had the volume set to the highest setting. Then I noticed it was really low even when playing through the Studio Display speakers (which are plenty loud enough for my taste).

This problem occurs with ripped music as well as Apple Streamed music, so I can't even narrow it down. Equalizer does nothing, turning off crossfade and volume adjustments does nothing either.
