HAHA, I love that your husband said "Less for tech!"

My thing is... I have 6 beautiful children and an amazing wife that's put up with me (and my tech nerding) for 11 years so far. If they love me this long then gray is not a worry!

Gray to me is a sign of overcoming hardships and strength in life. Besides models and people on TV are usually faked by Photoshop ™️ and major makeup ®️

Awww that’s awesome - I LOVE big families! I always wanted more than 4, but I lost 4 to ectopic pregnancies,
and finally just couldn’t take that risk anymore.

This is my mindset. I earned those gray hairs doggonit! My mom was completely white headed at 40 when she had me (I was the baby of 6 by about 12 years), so I expected I’d get gray early on. I colored it for a long time, but I’m done with all that. It’s too much of a pain to keep up with, and who needs more chemicals.

Oh that seems like a lot of drain. Well maybe not a lot, but more than I was getting from iOS 14.1.

Well, I don’t feel like it’s draining more than usual with my normal use. I have a lot of trouble figuring out what’s what when I read the battery stuff. So now I’m looking at it, and it was last at 100% at 7 p.m. last night. It’s 8 a.m. here. I’m at 85% again. I used it on and off from the time I took it off charger til about 11 when I went to bed, and I’ve used it a little since I woke up. I don’t think 15% in that time is bad, but I also don’t think I pay quite as much attention to that as a lot of people on here - probably because I’m home most of the time, so plugging it in isn’t a big deal, and I’m not Paying attention to how often I’m having to do it. ;-p

Just curious is the iphone 12 black darker than the iphone 11 bLack?

I can’t answer this, as I don’t remember the 11’s black color, but I can say this - when in the bright sunlight, the 12 looks almost navy. I laid it on my black car seat, and with the sun coming in, it looked almost navy blue next to the black seat. It is not like that inside the house in normal lighting - I feel like it looks very black inside.

Aww yes that’s true! I am one of the people that pays close attention to it. That’s actually not bad at all! Glad it’s ok for you.

I also got a bug from 14.2 that I randomly won’t get notifications from messages in the messages app when I get them. I have to open the app and then the thread to see there is a message. I have messed so many. I have been trying to reach out to Apple.

Aren’t updates supposed to FIX bugs? Lol It seems like there are always more after an update. I feel like there is something I’ve noticed on my phone, although I can’t remember if it was before or after the update, and right now I can’t even think of what it is. I’m telling you - my brain is not fully functioning.

Haha well mine doesn’t function that well either. And your right, shouldn’t these updates be fixing things not adding. This bug is the worst I have had to deal with. Not getting notifications of messages is bad for me.

Did you notice any difference in volume buttons? Primarily the volume up feeling softer than the volume down??

I haven’t noticed that, but mine is in a cheap silicone case at the moment. I’d take it out and check, but it’s super strategic to get it to get in and stay in with my loopy loop in it. If my actual Loopy case EVER arrives, I’ll test the buttons when I make the switch.

Not to mention, this is a site dedicated to discussions of things such as the Apple iPhone, so there's that. Plus I find the forums help to take my mind off of the nonsense going on in the world today. So yeah...
Plus a lot of us here can relate to struggling to get the device that is right for us. None of them really is. I run Android as well as iPhone phones. If I were magic like Harry Potter I’d wave a wand and make something of a conglomeration of the best of all of them.

But I am a mere Muggle so I have to compromise. A lot. And I’m trying to find the best compromise. And oh my goodness that is hard to do this year. I’m changing faster than I could have imagined due to aging and chronic conditions making themselves felt more than ever. I have taken months to fully recover from something that might have been Covid. I tried to get an antibody test for one of my kids who was symptomatic along with me and we were denied by the pediatrician because too much time has passed for an active test and the doc felt the antibody test was not accurate enough.

Whether or not we had it in spring, we certainly don’t want a repeat so I am not going in to a store to try before I buy. Apple stubbornly embargoed reviews until the last possible minute, so that source of help was closed.

So as a result, I have done the unprecedented thing of ordering three iPhones this time. I tried and failed on the 12 Pro. I like the 12 but possibly not enough to surrender my 11 Pro for it. And I have a 12 mini on preorder.

I also tried and failed with the SE earlier.

That’s really not how I usually roll. I usually do a lot of research, make my choice after various levels of back and forth, then go for it and live with my choice until the next upgrade opportunity.

Goodness even my Samsung is now up on the chopping block. It’s just one sticking point with that phone but it’s a doozy. The fingerprint sensor hates my fingers. On top of that, Samsung is ending their cloud service and trying to push me over to Microsoft. I am honestly weary of things on the Android side always ending and I have to scramble to migrate to something else. I think I’m taking a break from that for awhile.

Anyway this topic has been a wonderful and supportive little landing place for folks like me who want to settle down with our minds firmly made up, but keep hitting unexpected bumps on the road.

I am so grateful to @ssledoux for taking the heat she took and keeping this discussion going. It’s been very helpful and even fun going through this journey with her. It all would have been much more stressful without her candor and humor.

Couldn't have said it better myself! After all, that's why we're here isn't it to share our experiences? I really don't get that negative mentality some add to these forums. Just don't get it.

I just hope it’s only that people are stressed by the times we are in and not at their best. If they’re like that all the time, then it’s something that’s sad to contemplate.

When I was going through some hard times taking care of four elderly family members going through different difficulties at the same time, oh man was I a mess. I tried to stay upbeat in my posts but I was dead stressed inside.

One day I caught myself almost hitting the post button on a post that was rude and unfair to the person it was aimed at. I legitimately disagreed with them, but I had no excuse to be rude about it. Thankfully my better instincts prevailed and I didn’t post it.

But I realized I wasn’t in the best shape and might not have good judgement so I actually asked a moderator to suspend me. And they did with the understanding when I was ready to come back, I could just ask. With my account suspended, there wouldn’t be the temptation to pop in and post with my judgment clouded.

Anyway, going through that, I try not to assume the worst of people posting their worst. I’m happy to say much of the time I discover I’m right to give people the benefit of a doubt. People quite often surprise me in nice ways. Even in these troubled times, I feel blessed to see so much goodness still around.

You know, you may just need to change your name here to RespectfulMom or ThoughtfulMom, IDK if "Grumpy" fits you anymore, lol.

You know, I totally agree with the fact that the forums are a great distraction from all the craziness in the world (if you stay off certain ones of course). Yes it seems that making such a huge deal out of a phone is ridiculous, but right now, I think having something ridiculous to focus on sometimes is a good thing.

I also agree that with the added stress, people may not be at their best, or they may have the position that with all the crap going on, why in the world does a phone even matter. I get that too - it’s definitely a first world problem for sure. Different people definitely have different perspectives.

For me this has all likely been because I’ve had more time on my hands to sit around and think about things I never really did before. Spending more time at a home, maybe using devices more than normal, and realizing things that work or don’t work for me in ways I never noticed. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just grasping for something to make all my insanity make sense. ;-p

Either way, I have really enjoyed all the discussions and input about all things phone.

On another note, it looks like, FINALLY, after pre-ordering the same day I pre-ordered my phone, my Loopy case is out for delivery. USPS had last posted an update about it on November 5th, only to have a big gap of nothingness in the tracking information until last night. I am excited for it to finally be here, so I can get a feel for using my new phone with it.

I will definitely post a pic later!

I bought 12 128gb white few hours ago ! I’m surprised how lightweight is and how I feel it like modern piece of tech.

Do you notice any pwm issues ?

Edit : I put some cheap tempered glass on it and now I have “grainy” screen.. (Something like when you put your sweaty face on screen when calling..)

I haven’t been having the PWM issues with the 12. I adjusted the white point and I keep my brightness low when reading on it in the dark.

I have a screen protector I picked up at Walmart, but still waiting for the full screen one from Amazon.

Using the 12 Pro for 2 weeks I seriously felt the weight was too much. And for this I was going to get the mini. But when I read people’s post how much lighter the 12 “felt” I decided to get a 12 and try it for a couple of weeks. If the 12 didn’t work out I would get a mini. I gave the 12 Pro to my wife since she needed a new phone anyway.

When I got the 12 I initially felt the weight difference in a good way. You would think that according to specs it wouldn’t be that much but to me it was and is. With the 12 pro my pinky shelf was believe it or achy and I was developing a blister. Plus the 12 Pro felt to top heavy when on my pinky shelf.

Another issue for me why I wanted the mini was a device being comfortably pocketable and true 1 handed use. The 12 Pro felt heavy in my work cell phone pocket and when I would go to sit in my work vehicle it would slide out 3/4 of the way out of the cell phone pocket. 2 handed use was a challenge for me with the 12 Pro because of the device being heavy and too heavy.

With that being said when I got the 12 and started using it, it “felt” like a difference experience. Like I said above it was noticeably lighter. For some reason it doesn’t come out of my cell phone pocket like the 12 Pro and doesn’t feel heavy in the pocket. As far as 1 hand use to me the 12 isn’t a bonafide 1 hand device which I have been used to and wanted. After using the 12 for 2 weeks for some reason I learned to adjust. As far as pinky shelf issues it’s not an issue with the 12.

After using the 12 now I’m not a bit interested in the mini like I thought I would be. I’ve gotten used to the 12 and I’m dialed in. Coming from the SE2020 I don’t want to experience that battery life again. Yea the mini will be better but not as good as the 12. When I had the SE2020 I had to charge my phone at least 2x in an 8 hour period. Would go from 100% to 20% 2x within an 8 hour period. Sounds like a lot because mostly on cellular data. With the 12 I’m usually at 20% - 35% in the same 8 hour period with NO recharging! So what I’ve been doing is about a 1/2 hour to an hour before I leave work when it’s usually 20% - 35% I charge with USB C and Apple 20w and at 80% I take it off leave work to go home and being on WiFi mostly no problems making to to bed time with battery to spare then I charge with 5W overnight.

I’m a bonafide 12 user and larger phone convert now!

I finally got my case yesterday! I LOVE it!! I wasn’t quite sure how I’d feel about the squared edges with the case, but it doesn’t even feel like it adds as much extra bulk as the Loopy cases did on the curved edge phones. It actually reminds me, when I look at it from the front, of the days when I had a 5 with an Otterbox symmetry case.

Pics as promised.

Oh wow that Loopy looks fantastic! I’m probably going to end up with one eventually.

To my shock and horror my Mint Green Mini is due to arrive Monday! It wasn’t supposed to be here until the beginning of December. Very end of November at the earliest. So I had to scramble for cheap protector and case from Amazon. Lol but apparently there’s a problem with all minis and they don’t work with both a case and a screen protector on at the same time. Oh 2020.

And then other reports are that pwm is really bad on the mini. Oh well I won’t worry about it now.

My husband’s 12 Pro Max arrived yesterday. I immediately stole it from him. The display is smoooth. It’s a heavy and big phone but it’s so big that I hold it like a squirrel with a big acorn. And it oddly works.

So, I put in an order for a white/silver 12 Pro Max that should be here mid December. I own a Pixel 3XL that I have held squirrel style with good luck. So we will see how it goes. I’m not having the best of luck with my 11 Pro so I guess it’s worth a shot. I try holding my 11 Pro squirrel style but it’s too small and my left hand keeps slipping off and it’s a strain on my hand, too. Not nearly as bad as what I went through with the 12 Pro, but enough that I’m not going to cry when I trade it back to Apple.

So I’m going to have the mini for my pocket communicator on my main telephone number. The 12 Pro Max for my ebook and forum reading and emails and movie watching on the line that will soon be taken from my Samsung. The Samsung is going on trade for the mini. Unless the mini is really a hot mess for me.

My red 12 goes back next week. There is some issue where it randomly suddenly overheats. I’ll think it’s fine and not going to do it anymore and then it does. The display also was not as comfortable for me. It almost was. It was a nice size to hold one handed. If everything fails for me with the mini and 12 Pro Max combo I suppose I can go back to a different 12.

I would miss the 2x zooms for portraits. Wide angle portrait shots do mess with proportions and distort facial features a little bit. But I could get by.

At the end of all this I will have owned the entire 2020 lineup. I would feel sheepish about this, but my husband’s friends, who spend a lot of time on social media forums, say that this year returns and exchanges seem rampant. I can’t imagine what the executives at Apple are making of all this.

I do think they’ve had some quality control issues and quality variances this year. Not just in their phones but in the accessories, too. My Mag Safe clear case already has stress fractures in the polycarbonate toward the bottom from being taken off my 12 Pro and put on my red 12. It’s been removed and put on a phone about 8 times. It can’t take that much movement.

Okay well that’s my latest chapter in the ongoing saga of “The Undecided”. 🤣

Oh goodness, my husband just dropped his new phone off his lap. It’s okay. He’s got a Spigen Air Armor case on it and a Caudabe screen protector.

Hahaha. You are so great. I enjoy your adventure: can’t wait to see what you end up with. And I relate: had the 12P, and it just wasn’t right. Got the Mini for work, and for almost a day I thought it’d be a fun personal phone. But then I experienced multiple times that “ugh I wish this screen were bigger”, so I picked up a silver Max today. I feel like I finally have the right combination!
...hope that lasts.
Good luck!

Oh thank you and good luck to you, too. And we both went for the silver! My original 12 Pro was the Pacific Blue. My husband and my daughter got that color, too. Gold was originally my second choice. But owners’ photos of the silver won me over. My family can’t understand why I don’t just get Pacific Blue again. But I’ve had it already so I figure I may as well try something I haven’t had yet. I hope this year of having so many iPhones in my hands is a rare outlier. Since it is such a strange year where I’m trying to find what works for me, I may as well sample the colors, too. It helps I can still admire their blue phones.

I’ve long loved Product Red and I will be sorry to see this 12 go back. But it’s not my favorite shade of red that they have made. So I am happy to try green.
