There are third parties who sell repair insurance beyond the term of AppleCare+. If you don’t want to be responsible for 100% of the costs of all repairs after two years, you can pay for such insurance. But, if you elect not to, unless you can show that Apple covered up a known flaw or misled buyers with false information about a design flaw, you have absolutely no argument for claiming that Apple is responsible for any of those costs.

I paid for a $849 dollar phone. I expect it to last longer than 2 years. Period. i didn't do anything to the device and it was always in a case.

I'm confused. You paid Apple $849 for a phone, that new today costs $549-$649. The phone failed out of warranty so apple owes you nothing. BUT, thanks to their good customer service, they offered to meet you halfway and offer you a refurb 6S+ at an out of warranty (OOW) price of $329. Seems like a good deal (their standard deal). Some other manufacturer might say - go to the store and buy a new phone at full price. You can find a new 6s+ https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-iphone/iphone6s#01,20,30 for $549 or $649. IF apple had told you to that - then they would suck.

My 10 year old car also stopped running for nothing specific that I did. The engine just stopped. Under your theory, should I expect the carmakers to just pay for part of my repair too?

You're correct. Sometimes there is a place where we need to take responsibility for faults that are out of our control. What happens is frustration sets in and somebody else looks to place the blame elsewhere.

I have an Apple 6S Plus that is out of AppleCare. Yesterday I was using my phone like normal made phone calls went downstairs came back up and I see that my phone is turned off. I thought to myself nbd I'll just turn it on. Nothing happened.Tired a hard restart Nothing. Tired connecting my phone to the laptop maybe I can fix it through iTunes. Nothing! The computer isn't detecting the phone. I went to the Apple store told the Genius my story he ran some test and said I need a new phone $329. I told him that why would I pay $329 for a problem I didn't cause. He said he couldn't do much. I went home and call customer service after screen sharing and running tests the guy over the phone said we need a replacement also. He agreed with me that my phone shouldn't die this quickly and he escalated my call to the supervisor. Now this guy was rude. Told me there is NOTHING he can do. I told him that I'm a long time apple customer, and I didn't do anything to the phone for this to happen. He said other than the $329 service there is nothing he can do. I told him I guess I gotta think about it.He replies okay and in a rude manner says GOOD LUCK. Really???
I have a theory things aren't made to last.

From a bean counter's perspective, this makes perfect sense! Why build quality when consumers are forced to spend on quantity after quantity?? Of trash.

I mean in all seriousness...

And not to sound rude, as you say the apple tech was to you...

But if you're out of Warrenty, and the phone is not apples responsibility after the Warrenty, than why would they just give you a new phone...or better yet even attempt to repair it for free?

This is why more and more people are turning to either getting a new phone every year or every other year, mostly because you are under apple or the carriers umbrella.

If my car, my watch, my tv...basically anything...stops working and it's out of Warrenty, I'm screwed and on the hook for whatever repair, or replacement. Whether it's my fault, or the moon, sun and the stars...it's all the same to whoever you're complaining to when out of Warrenty.

My advice, do one of the many upgrade programs that either apple or the carriers have available, it takes the headache out of situations like this.

Good luck.
