That should work. Without actually trying it, 10.2.8 should be a safe bet. I'm guessing that for 10.2.7, you'd need the build specific to the Powerbook(much like with the first gen G5s).

yeah...i saw that, there is some tweak to it and the G5 having smthg to do with it, to which i did not understand anything !

Downloaded the 10.2.8, lets see how it goes.

Good call Ben, its hard finding build specific versions, looking at you Cube :)

if you want to talk about finding build specific versions try finding 10.2.7 for G5s its near impossible... you cant just use a standed 10.2.8 install on a G5 eather it has to be from a 10.2.7 G5 specfic installer with a G5 specific 10.2.8 G5 updater... (with the help of @MagicBoy I tracked down a 10.2.7 G5 installer and got it installed on my 2Ghz 7,3 but since its for 7,2s the OS does not take over the PMU properly and the fans rev to max) im also looking for the tiger restore disk for MacBook pro 3,1 since those have some drivers that none of the updaters have...

I think I can help you on this, I have the original Tiger install set for my MBP 3,1, it's yours free if it's what you need.
I had the logic board on this MBP replaced under warranty and ever since then these disks will not install. It is some kind of serialzation issue with the new board I've been told.
PM me if interested.

indeed thats what I am looking for... sadly I am in the UK and cant pay shipping so shipping it to me is kinda out of the option... if you could make an image of Disk 1 and send it to me/upload it for me to download that would work too

Also.... Does it mean that i can nvr get 10.2 to run this PB....

That PowerBook came with a special build of 10.2 that was never released in a retail form. Therefore, you would need restore disks for that model to install directly from optical. Otherwise, installing from a supported Mac using Target Disk Mode will work. After installation, you will need to use the 10.2.8 combo update to bring it up to the latest version.

Yeah, generally PowerBook G4s won't boot from USB2. On the flip side, Firewire will function like an internal drive.

Btw..... Wht does this logo mean ? Nothing to do with the pB. Twas from the imac g4.

It's the Happy Mac. Indicates the Mac has passed POST and is now booting an Operating System. You'll see it on any Mac that can boot the Classic Mac OS.

tried connecting the PB via firewire 800 (both sides) to My PM G5, when i turn on th PB with holding down the "T" the PB shuts down as soon as it chimes...even the screen does not light up ! Any idea what that suppose to mean....

also..this PB's track pad does not function when i m in the pre boot mode, i had to use an external mouse to go about trying the OS installation attempt. is that normal, else i guess the track pad is gone as well. maybe this PB has multiple issues !!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhh!!!

if you want the G5s HDD to show up in the PowerBooks boot menu you need to put the G5 into TDM not the PowerBook... (once the G5 is in TDM it acts like a FireWire HDD)

It's there on the first couple of versions of OS X(I think up to 10.2) but went away after that. Those versions boot directly to the gray Apple.

Aside from that, the "Happy Mac" stretches all the way back to System 1. Up to and including system 7.6(or maybe it was 7.5.5) there was also a splash screen that said "Welcome to Macintosh" somewhere in the boot sequence.

Yeah, it's there up to 10.2. 10.3 and upwards goes straight to a light grey screen with a dark grey apple logo.

Welcome to Macintosh was up to and including System 7 IIRC, changed to the big Mac OS splash screen with the loading bar with Mac OS 8 and 9.

It appeared when i was trying to boot the 10.1 disk in my imac g4, it was beach balling !
As the g4 came preinstalled with 10.1.2 (quoting frm everymac) i ejected the disk.

progressing.....

in searching for a firewire drive....i had to steal the external hdd case of my mac mini..

P1020051.JPG

and it froze after 30 mins..... just wanting so badly to give a tough time, dont know if the disk has gone nuts or the optical drive, after force ejecting the disc, it kept spitting the disc !
Have to try some different tmrw.... had enough for the day !
