cloned my Mac Mini G4...

...but the track pad is not functioning. there was no option in sys pref as well, guess twas due to the cloned OS from the mini, i guess this means that if i have to replace the hdd and install OS from the book itself. So can't get 10.2.8 to run in this PB i guess...unless i have another PB/iB which is running 10.2 :(

I think the trackpad is actually broken, I would check the internal connector, and then if nothing is broken, then its the physical trackpad

Yep, the trackpad should always work, even during OS X installation, as Apple at that time didn't force users to buy any peripherals to set up their machines. So if it works okay, one should be able to completely install OS X with only the power cord plugged in, using the built in keyboard, trackpad, hard drive and optical drive. Newer macs even allow the wifi to be connected during installation to view support information and to restore time machine backups.

Try holding Option at boot to get into the boot device selector. If it works there then you know you have a software issue.

Jeez.. Thats sad. Should check e connector...whn e attempt for e hdd replacement, which i am doubting, if ill do!

So there should be options for e trackpad at e sys pref, right ? But i found none.

This is where i select the boot options right...
It doesnt work, i still had to use e mouse ...

Your trackpad is shot then and is causing OS X to not display the Trackpad pane in System Preferences. It was not until 10.6 to my knowledge that Apple began to display the Trackpad pane even on machines without a trackpad. I assume this is due to the fact that 10.6 was the first OS that supported the Magic Trackpad, so in order to configure a Magic Trackpad, the OS had to display the pane on all Macs.

Last year in mid December it was the rare iMac G3 (yes in Asia it is), i can't believe it i had the chance to steal this, this December ! :p

Saw this PowerBook G4 for usd 50.00, wasted no time and struck a deal it for usd 30.00. Shipped for us 5.00 (about 350 kms)

The moment i got hold of the package i knew it was cheap job in the packing !
I'd give the chair for the seller !

(The plastic lining above the cd rom had chipped away while on shipping- later found small pieces of chipped lining) i requested a decent packaging actually !

Also he did not mention about the missing f11 key. The lid does not close shut, the lock is gone.

It has been through abuse in its life, neglected! It looks all nice n shiny in pics... BUT ITS NOT ! The color has faded.....i cant believe on how my ip6 camera is lying to me

somehow looking at all the of ports present, make me happy !

However, upon switching on, it was the blinking question mark in intervals of the finder logo as mentioned by the seller. Dnt know if the battery holds charge -

The cursor/pointer does not move at all. Plugged an usb mouse- the mouse didnt even get lit.

Gonna try slotting in a Leopard disk when i get back home. I dnt know which version of PB is this. The model no is A1010, which leaves me with 3 choices to guess from.

Upon pressing the option key there was no OS or hdd detected, no chime ( no chime- this gives me a bad feeling), but i can hear the hdd spin.

Dnt know how this is gonna turn out....wish me luck guys....;)
I'm really sorry about that. I can't believe someone would ship something like that.

From what I have found, the display will show the flashing logo. However this was on a G3 PowerBook without a screen

Thx for your reply....

I expected it to.... I tried the converter on a ibook g3 with a graphic issue (blank screen) and also on this powerbook which was flashing.... There were no display at all.

Could it be that the converter is faulty ?

Will try again today with an imac g5 17", it totally has no lcd nor a hdd ! Chimes though.

i tried it with an iMac 17'' which has no lcd nor hdd. the iMac chimes, still no display from the converter.

tried the converter on an iMac g4, the converter is fine, i could get the mirroring to work.

k guys, after the defeat with PB 17" and TI, i decided to release my tension on this PB,

* i changed the HDD, still no HDD detectable
* the hdd from the PB is fine and detectable on my other Mac
* some superhero had laid his hand on the PB - lots of screws missing
........... AND YEAh the saint broke the cable to the trackpad ! no wonder the trackpad did not function. must have messed up something else as well causing the logic board to not detect the HDD

Will update with pics, had enough for now ! its 1.15AM here, Good nite, ops good morn.

It could possibly the HDD cable or the ATA controller. I would hope it's not the latter as then you would need a new logic board

the HDD does spin though, so can't totally rule out the cable. i think it must smthg else, like u mentioned, the ata.

so there is no point in leaving the HDD in it when i reassemble right ? might as well use it for else. So thats it for the PB i guess, either i boot it with a firewire enabled external hdd or just a paper weight !

Check for rips or deformations in the cable. Also look at the IDE cable for any odd looking connectors

It looked fine, but it doesnt matter anyway, as its not easy to get a replacement for it here.

Just have to leave the as it is, boot it externally -> for fun.

This model does not have issues booting to an external sata hdd... Does it ?

... well i have been compensated for my not so complete Christmas present :D

I managed to get this PB for US25.00, which is a very very good price over here, all the more when i bought it from a computer servicing centre.

I dent think i would get this, but i did! Went scavenging for iBs and PBs, came across a few with faulty gpus', even a Ti, but it was in real bad condition.

Was about to leave with a sad face...until i found this beauty lying on the ground in one of the outlets!! no charger though! Waited for almost an hour in the shop for it to be tested on whether it boots. It did, complete with Airport, Bluetooth, the lcd seemed a bit blackish at the bottom...but no biggie.

did a clean install of 10.3, but will not rest until i install 10.2!

Thank you God for the replacement and thank you too guys for the guidance and aid :)

Woooo, congrats mate! Glad this story had a happy ending; plus now you have a machine that you can take spare parts from if you ever need to :)

I have a 12" 1.5GHz that was obliterated in shipping that I keep around for spare parts for my main 12" 1.5GHz.
