I got a dark grey case for my ipad 2 this saturday from the apple store.
I was aware of all the negative reviews but liked it and took the plunge.

It actually fits my ipad 2 very snugly. It does not move and the sockets dont move on me at all.

In viewing stand mode its abit shakey but it works pretty well so far and hasnt fallen.

My only complaint so far is it doesn't seem to want to work as a stand with the microfiber not touching the surface, which seems pretty stupid as this is the part which the later will be rubbing up to my screen. But i got a lint roller for that issue.

All in all a good purchase, although abit pricey. Dont know how ipad 3 fits, but i would have thought it would have been even better than my 2nd gen fit :S

Got my Smart Case this morning. Couldn't get my iPad engraved so done the case instead :)

I understand the reasoning for folding it that way but it wasn't meant to be folded in that manner anyways, neither was the Smart Cover.

Thanks for the pics! Anyone who has this new iPad case on their iPad 3 tried it with the invisible shield full body shield? Will the full body shield on the iPad 3 fit this case well?

Thanks, Paul

I have a Zagg Skin on the back of my iPad 3 and it fits just fine. Zagg Skins are just about the same thickness as a Zagg Invisible Shield.

Well after a day of use I decided to return my Dark Grey Smart Case...

And get a Red Smart case. :D

Man!!! When they say red them really mean RED!!!

----------

Orange?!?

They made one in Orange?

I'm really tempted to pick up that red case :D

I don't get the quote =/

Its from Modern Family. :)

In the eipsiode, the iPad gets released on the day of his birthday.

At the end they use a "Birthday Cake" App and he blows out the candle and says..... "It did not just do that!".

Modern Family is my favourite programme so its just a personal thing I did to make myself chuckle. I wanted to get that done on the iPad itself but had to buy in store with vouchers.

I bought an iPad 3 last week along with the red case. I love it. No problems with a loose fit. I actually had some difficulty getting it on. It seems nice and grippy for carrying around, much more than my old case for my 1st gen iPad.

not a bad deal considering I paid $70 for my leath smart cover and $30 for my smart feather. oh well I like my setup.

I didn't even know this case existed until 30 min ago. I have been using my Speck Pixelskin from my iPad 2 on my iPad 3 because I haven't found anything else I have wanted to use. Just got back from the apple store and picked up a grey one. So far so good!

I love this case because It balances the extra weight of the iPad 3 and does not collect dust like most cases do.

I own the speck magfolio, smartshell, device wear union, and the smart cover and I like this more then all of those.

Careful, telling people you like this will get you branded as a tasteless dress wearer here :D

Meanwhile the non OCD among us are quietly enjoying the hell out of our smart cases...

Picked this case up yesterday and I quite like it. I've owned the Maroo Moko II and STM Skinny and the Apple Smart Case is the best of the three.

+ Nice texture that provides good grip while being easy to clean off.
+ iPad is completely sealed when closed (compared to a lot of folio cases that leave edges exposed).
+ Microfiber backing of front flap is soft on the hands when folded behind - great for reading.
+ I like the fact that the volume rocker and power switch are covered and are easy to find by touch.

- No rear magnets to keep front flap secured when folded behind iPad.
- Not an exact fit - there is some play around edges.
- "Keyboard" mode doesn't provide enough of an angle and the whole case sags under weight of iPad.
- Red case looks like a Rubbermaid product.

My first color choice was the "dark" gray which is much lighter than it appears on the Apple.ca website. Decided to return it and grab the red case which looks really sharp (and something like food container red). I usually go with black/bland colors but the red case is a nice change.

I'm really in two minds about getting the case now. I have the belkin snap cover for the back ( hard plastic ) and a eBay copy smart cover. Now I'm wondering if just to buy the smart cover and continue to use the belkin, or buy the smart case as there is only a £5 difference between them in the uk

I took my light grey SmartCase back and exchanged it for dark grey. This one is much looser on my iPad 3. It is going to go back regardless but I may not end up keeping this case.

I have a question for any of you other weight haters like me, how heavy does it make an iPad 3 compared to the smart cover? I always take the smart cover off the iPad 3 as I hate the extra weight it adds, I'm imagining the case is heavier.

Of course its heavier. It has a back attached!

I've never notice my smart cover adding weight. It was just "there". If you're concerned about the weight the cover adds I'd suggest the whole case probably isn't for you.

on a side note, i'm loving this case. Feels really nice in my hands.

Thought so..I'm happy enough with the smart cover. Thanks for the quick answer.

The weight change between the two is minimal - you lose the mass of the metal bar, but get a very thin back and rim. If your hands are sensitive enough to find the extra gram or three a bother, you probably shouldn't be using the iPad 3 without a stand (as the extra weight of the iPad 3 versus the 2 is much more than both case and cover combined).

I had the SmartCase and returned it for the Belkin snap case and a Smart Cover and I am much happier. Much better fit in my opinion at least.

No, it's not. As another poster has already pointed out, it has no metal hinge, so if you have a poly cover, my guess is that the weight is about the same, because metal hinge of the smart cover and back part of the smart case evens out. If you have a leather cover, I can tell you that the leather cover is heavier, I've had both a leather cover and a smart case in my hands. Also, most people who are contemplating the smart case probably is using some sort of back cover already, as they are interested in protecting the back. In which case any combination of back case + smart cover would weigh more than the smart case.

In the end, I figure it comes down to two things: 1) how you like the feel of cloth-like PU, and 2) whether that flap that serves as a hinge bothers you, or if a fit which isn't 'skin-tight' is too much to bear.

That, and Apple QC issues. I've seen them fit perfectly on iPad 3's... but there are others who show photos of lots of edges being exposed. And most people seem to have at least the upper-right side showing a gap between metal bezel and the edge of the case.

Honestly, the minimal impact on weight is great... but the lack of any bump protection on the back is not. It's pretty much like putting a skin on the back of the iPad; it won't stop serious scratches or bumps, but it'll add grip and keep those small dirt and sand scratches from building up, so long as said sand/dirt doesn't get inside the case.
