Personally I'm not attracted to it and I don't think I'll be buying it anytime soon.

Got my Product Red one yesterday and put it straight back in the box to be returned.

Far too bright a red compared with my original red leather smart cover. My own fault for not waiting to check them out in the store. Too quick to order online as is often the case.

Picked up the dark grey one yesterday and am very pleased with it. Similar in many respects to the original Apple case for the iPad 1. Matches my white iPad 2 very well.

I returned mine after 2 days of use - not impressed. The seams make it very uncomfortable to hold for any period of time. The upright viewing angle is not very stable and the typing angle is far to shallow - even more shallow than the Smart Cover.

I find it would be a great buy for $30 but for $50 there are FAR better alternatives out there.

Just received my dark gray Smart Case today. It is great, but I won't be getting the refurbished iPad 2 I ordered until next week to test functionality- I am a bit worried that it may be loose on the iPad 2, as someone mentioned and the typing angle does seem shallow. Maybe I got lucky, but I have no issues with sharp or wavy edges. It has attracted some whitish markings, likely fingerprints, just from handling it, although not nearly as bad as the original iPad's case. Hopefully a little iKlear will solve that. Will update this post once I actually receive the iPad. I don't think I would return it for a Smart Cover (my original intended purchase) though, since it is only $10 more and give you the entire backing. That said, if it's loose, that will be a dealbreaker for me.

UPDATE: Okay, I tried putting it on my sister's 3rd gen iPad and it was unacceptably loose and I could see light coming in at the top (as in, you could see out from these ports through the case because the lip isn't close/ tight enough to the iPad's bezel) from the headphone jack and mic at normal viewing angles. Seeing as the iPad 2 is a bit thinner, I called Apple and immediately printed my return label. What a disappointment. For $50, no thanks! I'm going to purchase a dark gray Smart Cover and combine that with Belkin Snap Shield Secure Smart Cover Case for Apple iPad 2 Clear (which you can find on Amazon). This seems like a much better solution. A bit sad on Apple's part. Now here's hoping the refurbed iPad 2 I ordered doesn't come with any quality control issues...

Our review of the Product Red Smart Case is up if you guys want a bunch of details.

I picked up a dark grey today and am pretty happy. Reminds me of the original iPad case that I didn't think I would like and grew to love. The fit is a tad loose but not bad.

Seems like the dark grey is the popular color!

Ordered the dark gray one on Monday. Got it Wednesday. In contrast to all the negative reviews that I have read, I really like it. It's light, easy to install and seems to fit perfect. I removed my iPad from an Otterbox Defender so I am THRILLED to have some protection and functionality but still have the silky smooth and light weight of the device itself. Might be a bit pricey @ $49.00 but I can say that even though I am sitting here with 2 almost new Otterbox Defenders I can truly say that I would buy the Apple Smartcase again in a heartbeat. It seems to be the perfect case for my needs, provided it hold up well.

The early reviews I read nailed it: good idea, poor execution.

I picked one up this week and, being a fan of the Yoobao iSlim, want to like it. It does seem ironic that the cheaper Yoobao is, in most respects, a better case.

Still undecided on getting a Smart Case, I have a Smart Cover and a rear clip on shell (Belkin) at the mo.

Was thinking, wonder what a mini version for the iPhone would be like?

Quite like the idea of the same design on my 4S. :)
Probs too small to be made.

I got a dark grey one two days ago. It's great! Sure it doesn't fit wet t-shirt tight to the back of the iPad, but they had to know that given the way they designed it. Perfect typing angle for me.

The only thing I didn't expect since I haven't had a smart lid on my iPad before; you have to dismiss any and all alerts when the screen wakes up.

The case is great though.

I have been debating between picking one of these Smart Cases up, or going for the Yoobao Executive Leather Case.

On the basis of Smart Case vs Yoobao Executive Leather.

What is the better choice, can anyone help me out?

Many thanks in advance,

George.

Hey OP quick question.

I bought one of these today too. However, I'm not 100% satisfied after spending 50 bucks on it. Mine feels like it is a tad too big for my iPad 3. On the left side, I feel like there is a little more gap than there should be (only by the tiniest of margins). However, before I make the trip back to the Apple store, I want to do a little research to see if this is simply what all of them are like.

Thanks,
Mike
Mine has a little "give" on the hinge side as well. Doesn't seem so far to be too much of an issue, though.

Must admit, I don't love the case. I like it, but don't love it.

Interestingly enough, my personalized smart case was delivered yesterday afternoon after ordering it on Tuesday afternoon!

Picked up a light grey one at the Apple store. If I were keeping it, I'd exchange it for the dark grey, the tone of the light grey just doesn't match the black iPad. However, I'm returning it and sticking with my current leather smart cover + back case (scosche) combo. I really like how light the smart case is, and the fit seems good enough, all the buttons and ports align perfectly. The edge is a bit sharp but i could get used to that. Only thing is, I just can't stand the overall texture of the poly. It's too bad because I'd really like a lighter case. :(

ETA: Gave it one more try before taking it back. Have to say the Smart Cover is much more stable as a stand in both typing and viewing positions.

I completely agree with this. Used mine now for the past day or so and it reminds of the first apple case. My only complaint would be the price could have been better but it's Apple. They always charge a premium! Hopefully it holds up well overtime.

I'm guessing that the happy buyers have iPad 3's. As stated, cover was loose fitting on the iPad 2 and this material will stretch over time.
but the return was easy at the Apple store. The employee agreed with me and said he had returned his too. Agreed that it didn't make sense to design a cover that is supposed to fit snugly on both the iPad 2 and 3, which are different thicknesses.

agreed, way too loose on my iPad 2 too. the guy at the store was like OMG

the holes for the earphones etc almost disappear in the case because theres so much gap between the iPad and the Case and ouch those edges hurt, too hard and not soft enough

I certainly like mine, in light grey and personalized on my white 64 LTE new iPad. It's perfectly functional and has an excellent fit. It's particularly pleasant to hold and carry.

Several dozen people looked it over at an international event I attended today. It was quite well liked by all who handled it.

It will be interesting to see how easy it is- or isn't- to clean. This color will probably soil eventually. But not today, over 12 hours of hard outdoor use and no dirt or issues developed. No smudges or fingerprints.

As for the negative comments so far, I find, like nearly all the negative comments about the new iPad itself, that they have little merit.

The DNA of this case certainly derives from the original iPad case, it feels like an old friend, with significant improvements.

Glad the smart case is working for you, but I feel it's somewhat unfair of you to dismiss all negative comments about the case as without merit. The smart case I tried did have some give, I wouldn't have been bothered by it, but I can see that it could bother some people. The edges were a bit sharp, I could have lived with it, but I can see how other people would choose not to, and I wouldn't view their choice as without merit. Finally, I returned the case because I didn't like the overall texture of the material. But that is a matter of personal taste, and I'm not surprised that other people like the feel of the case.

Sure, there has been a few posts where people may have voiced their dislike of the case a bit strongly, but I don't feel this thread as a whole has been overly negative. Most posters have just shared their experiences, and some were good and some were not. It does seem that there's some variety in the fit of individual smart cases, as some people have reported returning loose ones and getting replacements that fit better. So again, I think we shouldn't dismiss all negative comments as without merit -- some of it, I feel, was justified.

Well I returned mine today to the Apple store. The employee helping me said he had heard my complaints several times already. Mostly it simply did not fit my iPad 3 as well as I expected it to, but I have a few other nits as well;

1. There was excess space between the top left corner of the iPad and the frame of the case. I'm talking about physical space, emptiness. All the other corners fit much better.

2. The left edge of the frame constantly would slip off the edge of my iPad when I folded the Smart Cover behind the case. This too is a result of poor fit.

3. It really doesn't protect the rear of the iPad beyond scratch and scuff resistance.

4. The Smart Cover portion of the case is ridiculously inconvenient to open. It fits so flush that a fingernail is needed to pry it open.

Apple should have never released one case to fit 2 devices of slightly different dimensions.

Rediculous...looked at one last night ,and it's junk...apple junk.... which is new for me.....any case that is supposed to fit both pads is a design disaster....

From your comments I assume you wear "one size fits all" pants (or dress) too....

I was going to get one of these for my new ipad 2 as i loved the look and the whole protection from scratches it offers.

Now i probably wont get one which is annoying. Shame it doesnt even fit the new ipad properly, it is really baggy on the ipad 2?

I was then going to settle for the smart cover. Which is only 4 quid less which seems steep for a front only case. But then i saw threads with pictures of the cover damaging the ipad :S

Also if i were to go with the smart cover over the case would i need to get a back protector? will only be using it around the flat for browsing/gaming/watching tv shows whilst cooking or in bed? It annoys me that apple dont provide a decent case for the ipad as i dont like trawling through the hundreds of third party items. Almost tempted to keep my ipad all natural

Or you can just look at cases not from apple, but have apples functions built in.

Thanks for the pics! Anyone who has this new iPad case on their iPad 3 tried it with the invisible shield full body shield? Will the full body shield on the iPad 3 fit this case well?

Thanks, Paul
