I don't mean to lecture, but patience and common sense go farther than immediate satisfaction. For this kind of money, Apple online is the only way to go if no authorized store of dealers nearby. Too many scam operators out there for such a hot product.

Filing a Paypal complaint was the right decision at this point.

Yeah was just about to post that. To OP, give it some time. It is express international shipping so it will be here sometime in the next 3-5 days.

3-5 days as stated here.

Thanks. I'll go ahead and wait.

Question, if it is indeed an iPad 3 will it be any different from one that sells in the U.S.? I'm imagining this unit was bought in China so there might be different documentation or any other differences?

I'm really not sure. It's not on sale in China yet (I think). I don't think you need to worry yourself yet. Just use the USPS website to stay up to date and make sure it's moving on Monday.

the guys record is not bad, and is consistent, he has been buying and selling tablets and other elec gadgets and accessories recently, this is a good sign. he's selling the same type things he has been buying, and lots of activity in Mar and Feb, all pretty good signs IMO.

but I don;t know where he is getting iPads in China. could have a connection of some sort. wouldn't be anywhere near my first choice since ipads are plentiful and cheaper for the average joe to buy here than ship from China. but I see some positives, personally tho, I wouldnt want an ipad from China, esp if that was not clear on the auction.
You can buy fresh ones from authorized resellers from NY no tax and free shipping. places like B&HCamera/Photo, and probably JandRElec, both authorized apple sellers. I just got 2 ipad 3s from B&H. I'm returning them but not cause of any buying problems. I realize the iPad 2 was as good as I thought all year and I'm getting another one, cheaper used one. THe cost of the 3 and the new features, I now see, are not a must have for me ...for now.
good luck.

I had a lady screw me over a couple weeks ago on eBay (a lot less than $500, but that's not the point). She sent the wrong item and I tried to work it out with her, but she turned into a total bitch, called me names, and refused to address her error. I told her not to worry about it and I opened a case with eBay, and like someone else said, it took 2 weeks and they refunded my money. I even got to keep the item she sent.

eBay was very professional and helpful. They take care of the buyers.

Shall I go ahead and open a dispute with PayPal? I haven't received the item yet (might take another week since it's still in China) so not sure how far that will get me.

Paypal has certain time rules. Check their website, you have to wait a certain amount of days for item to arrive before you can even file the complaint.

Thanks. I would have never made the purchase if I knew it would be coming from China. According to his listings he has sold 9 iPad 3's. Maybe he's a scalper and sending them to China? Who knows.

I went ahead and contacted him via paypal resolution center. I explained why I'm worried and if he can provide any proof that it's an iPad 3.

Edit: He replied quite quickly
"ill take a picture and send it to you. this is not a chinese fake tablet. i dont sell fakes."

Did he say anything about why it's coming from China? That's odd to say the least, since the new iPads aren't officially available in China yet.

Not at all. All his replies have been short and dodgy. I don't think it would be that easy to steal a unit from a factory? Either way it is odd.

No matter what, give that POS some negative feedback, for misleading where it was shipping from. I never buy anything if it is shipping from China.

He's probably using apple as a drop shipper. Lists iPad on eBay and doesn't pay for the item until someone pays on his auctions. Goes on apple.com and makes the order from apple, which is why it's shipping from china. Hopefully that's the case and he's not using a stolen cc to make the purchases.

eBay is the worst platform to sell on the buyers usually are the ones scamming or act nuts. I have had buyer threaten me to send the item for free or they would file claim disputes on multiple account. Buyers that file a return but you send you an empty box. eBay does not care all the protection is with the buyers. But you should never buy something like an iPad from a seller with 49 feedback score. You buy from a vested trusted seller. Atleast 200 score. But I would never buy an iPad off eBay period.

If he is able to take a picture and send it to you, it is still in his possession. Nothing has been shipped. Send that email to PayPal/eBay customer service. That should get it taken care of right there. You now have proof of non-shipment.

Bingo! I think this is exactly what's going on.

So, what have we all learned here. Yet again, someone is getting screwed on eBay. PayPal has the worst security of any company and I wouldn't trust them to make tea much less with my CC or bank info. Back to eBay, it's a two way dark ally, you have buyers and sellers trying to steal from people. Our lesson here folks is, don't use eBay!!! Why in the hell would you use eBay to buy a iPad anyway??

Turn it over to Pay Pal. The ad was misleading and said the product was in NY. Don't mess around with it anymore. File a complaint.

PayPal will not do anything for this reason. PayPal will ONLY get involved if the device is not delivered or is defective. PayPal make money by completing transactions and they will do most anything to not interfere.

I have used eBay over 600 times with 100% feedback and if you follow the rules you are generally protected. From the looks here, looks like you will be fine. If not PayPal will get your funds returned. The second you get your device check the serial number with Apple to make sure it is as it should be.

this is a scam , file with eBay not paypal.

ebay resolves in 3-5 days (but make you wait couple of weeks initially) did u use Credit card on paypal to pay?

Just file it with PayPal and you should get your money back if you don't receive the iPad. The auction says the item is located in NY, not China so they're falsifying their auction which is grounds for a refund. eBay doesn't always side with the seller. You have the ammo to get your money back.

This is what I was thinking to. He charged the OP more and ordered it from apple and had it shipped to OP.
