I came from the xs max. I traded it in for the note ultra 20....great phone and love the 120hz!! But Apple is consistent and really there isn’t much more change that can be done at this time unless it’s the camera which I personally don’t care about. I see where you are coming from OP. My xs max battery was dying as I used pretty hard for the two plus yrs I had it. I was concerned how I would be with a smaller phone, but so far in first handful of hours I’m good with this size, pro model. Seems just right. I can see myself with this phone for yrs to come. It’s not like in yrs past where you had or wanted to updated every yr there is just no point any more. It’s a phone at the end of the day. I just wish it had 120hz on it :(

I maybe agree with OP. I come from a X and yes the 12P is gorgeous, pacific blue is astounding, but I don’t know, my iPhone X wasn’t that bad. I didn’t get anything that blows my mind, not feel it much more faster, or the camera much more better (LIDAR is great don’t misunderstand me and UW too). Battery life it’s the greatest improvement I felt, but my iPhone X was in 76% of battery’s health.
I’m thinking on returning my 12P and replace the battery on my X and restore the oleophobic coating with some kit from Amazon.
Sincerely, I don’t know what to do.

trust me others agree

like I said the design etc is stunning and its my fave looking iPhone but as soon as you put a case on there goes the design
But that’ll be the same with any design. It could be as thin as a piece of paper but as soon as you put a case on it - there goes the design...

Apple don’t design iPhones with a view that people will put a case on them. A case is a personal choice. If you want to fully appreciate the design, and there are many out there who do, then the only way to do that is to go case free.

I’ve come from an iPhone X and it’s a very welcoming upgrade.

It’s not blown my mind by any stretch of the imagination but the camera improvements (plus the addition of an extra camera), the speed improvement and the design overhaul have really made it feel a little more special.

I’m a big fan of the design and whilst I have mine in a case most of the time, I don’t have it in the case all of the time. If I’m out and about, it’ll be in the case. If I’m at home relaxing on the sofa, I’ll take it out so that I can appreciate true feel of it. A case isn’t a permanent thing.

In regards to the camera - I get fed up of so called ‘photographers’ complaining that it’s not all that. I mean, come on. It’s a phone camera. Whilst all the marketing in the world can claim that it’s a professional grade camera, but not many professional photographers would reach for an iPhone when carrying out professional photography work. The camera on the pro is a very, very capable camera but it’s no going to replace a DSLR.

I think people coming from an 11 probably won’t be that impressed but for anyone coming from an XS or later, I think it’s a great time for them to upgrade.

I also think that because iOS 14 came about before the phone, that took a bit of the shine away. We’re used to having new phones with new OS installed, so there’s more to be excited about where as this year, we got iOS early due to the pandemic.
