I just received my 16" MacBook Pro in the mail and am currently using the base model 2019 15"

PROS

Keyboard
Escape Key
Speakers

CONS

Feels much heavier
Feels much bulkier
The 16" screen doesn't feel remarkably bigger than the 15"

Overall, I would say I'm disappointed. My hope was the bigger screen would lead to more productivity but I don't think it will.

I mean its a .6" of a difference...Most of the changes are performance and keyboard related. I also wouldn't say that tiny increase in size/weight makes for a "much bulkier" computer by any means, but thats just my opinion.

Wait I though it was 1" bigger?

That's from looking at the numbers. You gotta feel it in person then judge.

When holding the 16" which I was just doing in and of itself it's big, bulky, and heavy.

There is a difference when comparing to the 15" if you ask me.

But this keyboard is butter. Escape is super nice to have back. Speakers are divine.

I just wish the bigger screen gave me more of an oomph. It's not very noticeable tbh.

Which scaled resolution do you have the screen set to ? There isn't much physical difference between 15.4" and 16" . Apple shifted to smaller pixels so if looking at icons and text to use the additional pixels would need to leverage smaller objects (at closer to the native resolution).

Photography and Video images the new screen probably helps more. If it is two text documents/spreadsheets side-by-side ... I wouldn't have a high expectation on that.

this update is all about the keyboard and airflow. everything else that you see is just window dressing.

Well I can tell you Apple did not disappoint on the keyboard. I do like my butterfly more, but I have always loved the butterfly and I know I'm in the minority.

I think most people will LOVE this new keyboard.

I think people will be disappointed to find that screen isn't much bigger really.

So for the same price...

- Much better keyboard, I am loving it
- slightly bigger screen
- Better airflow
- slightly better graphics I assume
- DOUBLE THE SSD SIZE

All in all a great value prop IMO

The 16" screen doesn't feel remarkably bigger than the 15" (the actual difference is more like 0.4”) but if it makes you feel better to say 15” to 16” that explains a lot.

you don't seem to like very much :) ....just sayin! I do agree it is not drastically different.. the screen is just taller! the keyboard is remarkebally different!! Speakers are amazing! and super fast!! No doubt its nicer... and its the same price as the old one, so there's that.. !

The screen size difference I probably wouldn’t even notice. Half an inch on a 15.5” screen isn’t going to magically make you more productive. A big monitor will though.

I think the difference in weight & size between the 15 & 16 is negligible. Once you get over a certain size & footprint it doesn't really matter when it comes to portability. This thing isn't heavy to carry, but I know it will be a wee bit unwieldy in small spaces (trains, planes etc) where a 13" wouldn't. But the trade-off is the screen and power which are great!

I does not feel much heavier to me... I honestly don't even notice the difference.

Bulkier? I don't know about that either. It's slightly larger but I would not use the word bulkier to describe it

The 16" screen is not going to be remarkably larger than the previous version.

Sounds to me like you went into it wanting to dislike it and you've formed opinions to justify your preconceived thoughts.

I do agree with the PROS you listed but the CONS are fabricated in my opinion..

But weren't you upset?

you created this thread:
Is anyone else upset about the new 16" MacBook Pro?

I bolded the last line. You hated it so why did you go and buy it?

One reason: bigger screen.

I have a 12" MacBook which I use for just regular stuff but when I really need to get work done and do things I use my 15" MacBook Pro.

If the 16" helps me get more work done and helps me be more productive or is just an overall better experience then it's worth it.

but I don't see myself utilizing the extra space for anything really.

In fact, it just seems like there's more "dead space" to sides of web pages, etc.

Nothing remarkably different at all tbh.

Sure, it's a 0.6 inch screen size increase. That's not enough screen space to do anything novel with.

You won't be more productive with 0.6 inches of screen space. So maybe best if you just stick with your 15" and save some cash?

Yes I forgot bigger SSD. That is definitely a HUGE thing if you need the space. I don't use more than 100GB usually around 60-80 so I'm fine but yes I agree with that point.

Play with it for 2 weeks and return it. Or keep it. Maybe by then you’ll like it 😉.

I picked one up today.

I don't notice the weight.

The keyboard is much, much nicer, at least to me.

I can't overstate how much better it feels.

The speakers on another level. I generally don't listen to too much with my laptop, but that will change.

Re: the extra .6 inches of space--I know it is taller; however, to my eyes, the extra real estate is to the left and right.

I looked at it next to my 15 inch. Unless you're up close and know what to look for, it's hard to tell them apart; however, when you start working on the 16 inch, the extra screen size becomes apparent, at least to me.

Finally, let's talk about value. I immediately ordered the 1 TB sort of "stepped up model" because I usually go with the higher end base config and I assumed the base model would have 256.

After I ordered, I saw the base model is 512.

256 is a little tight for me, while 512 is terrific. 1 TB is....I wouldn't say "overkill," but I would have to work to fill it.

Therefore, I reckon I should have gotten the base model (the extra 2 cores mean nothing to me).

Anyway, I bought the base model today and will return the stepped up model tomorrow when it arrives.

With the money I saved, I bought AppleCare (always a must since I had an experience spilling coffee on a 13 inch and learned the hard way how expensive that can be).
