I upgraded for the screen real estate increase. Thought it’d be more productivity for me but I’m finding it’s not that much better

Not sure you went into it with an open mind, based on your posting history. Either way, you have the great option of saving money and returning what you aren't happy with.

This computer isn't for everyone, and is still very expensive.

True, I am still within the return window. Highly considering it.

Exactly, save the money if it isn't for you. Glad you tried it despite your issues with it, but sounds like it isn't for you, that happens. I haven't got mine yet, but if I am unhappy with it, I will return it as well, but it checks off most of the boxes of what I wanted, so we will see. Good Luck either way.

You have a terrible habit of complaining about products without trying them, asking for advice, and then buying the very products you knew you wouldn’t like, and were advised to rethink before proceeding.
What I don't get is that he complained about the 15" being too much computer, too big and too heavy, and now he has a larger, heavier computer - oh well.

The bottom line however is that he doesn't have to justify his purchases with anybody but himself. His money his decisions.

OP, good luck on your machine, while its probably likely you'll only own it until WWDC 2020, it does appear to be a fine machine.

You trade? What software are you running
just trading view. about 12-15 charts up running all the time. seems like adding 32 gig ram helped with speed of it all compared to my 2016 16 gig ram.

well, seems like there are many who are upgrading including myself, no regrets! Better keyboard, faster, more storage, larger screen, way better speakers, did I say, the same price/
the same price sure but if someone upgrades a maxed out 2019 that they just bought in may till September they must be crazy. Selling a used computer and trying to get a new one you'd be set back at least a grand from that deal. all for no real benefit over the 2019's that came out in may. Sure there are small details but overall daily use you won't notice any speed difference coming from that machine to the ones that came out. Screen is basically the same thing no increase in resolution slight increase in size that isn't really anything. If you like the butterfly keyboard in many ways it could be a downgrade getting the new one. I think the 2019's are fixed and its the best year of this generation to actually own imo. We don't know about any issues yet with the 16's. I have no urge to "upgrade" my 2019 as I think I would feel like I just lost a bunch of money for no real reason I wouldn't notice day to day.

Nope, as an attorney you should use the 13 inch only, no reason for you to need to extra screen real estate. More scrolling, more time billed.
I see.

Part of the reason these forums have become cesspools.

“You can’t have this product because it’s made for ME and people like me.”

Sort of a variation on “you’re not a pro” or “you’re not pro enough.”

definitely a joke. The bigger 15's and 16's anyone could enjoy. Even just YouTube and internet having a bigger screen is nicer over a 13".

I just received my 16" MacBook Pro in the mail and am currently using the base model 2019 15"

PROS

Keyboard
Escape Key
Speakers

CONS

Feels much heavier
Feels much bulkier
The 16" screen doesn't feel remarkably bigger than the 15"

Overall, I would say I'm disappointed. My hope was the bigger screen would lead to more productivity but I don't think it will.
I believe you already knew that the 16inch is just .6inches larger in diagonal. Not a huge percentage for being more productive with your new laptop. But nevertheless it is a welcome addition. Being a little bit heavier (just a .3pounds i believe) an a little bit thicker though is all about being more productive. Having larger battery, means that you can use it longer and having better thermals, means that it can keep clocks higher, thus for example faster rendering times, ergo more productive!

Lol no one is ever pro enough for these forums. There is always someone who needs more cpu power, more ram, more storage than you. And your usage is never intended for a pro machine. It always makes me laugh.

One reason: bigger screen.

I have a 12" MacBook which I use for just regular stuff but when I really need to get work done and do things I use my 15" MacBook Pro.

If the 16" helps me get more work done and helps me be more productive or is just an overall better experience then it's worth it.

but I don't see myself utilizing the extra space for anything really.

In fact, it just seems like there's more "dead space" to sides of web pages, etc.

Nothing remarkably different at all tbh.

and what work do you do on your Macs?

In previous threads you have stated you just browse the web and play videos.

What productivity are you trying to improve with better speakers and .6” of additional screen?

These inane threads by Hieveryone seem like satire or trolling to me.

I think it’s complaining just to complain. Either that or he just can’t ever make his mind up on any purchase. The same things were going on in the iPhone forums. “I love iPhone Pro Max.” “I don’t need Pro Max as I don’t see the benefits.” “I exchanged my Pro Max for an 11, do you agree with me?”

And on and on and on.

The larger screen here is more about better use of the slightly larger frame. This is definitely an incremental refinement of the 15” instead of a whole new beast. Just one that many have been waiting for.

More Battery + More Cooling -> Larger Laptop -> May as Well Make the Screen Bigger too

If you really want a bigger screen, get an external monitor. They are really cheap these days.

Agreed. Done right, the 15” MBP is a strong desktop replacement when docked to a good monitor and KB/M.

The keyboard may feel better but I will not assume the reliability is much better until it's been out in the field for awhile.
I just had to replace my iMac's magic keyboard due to the page up key getting stuck. I will also wait until a possible 14" model comes out next year. That should be plenty of time to hear if there are any issues with this new magic keyboard.

I think Apple is heading in the right direction on the keyboards.

I'll wait and see though since Apple had said that they had fixed the keyboard issues when they released the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Macbook Pros :).

When you say more dead space at the sides of web pages, shouldn't it look effectively the same assuming it defaults to the same 1680x1050 resolution as the 15" did? Or does the screen now default to 1920x1200? I don't think it does as everything would look noticeably smaller if it did.

Question on the keyboard. So was the key having a mechanical or clearance issue? I assume popping the keycap off to clear any debris under it didn’t help.

I only ask after seeing the early iFixit video demonstrating popping keys off the magic keyboard and new 16inch without destroying them, where as it would on the butterfly keyboard , and even swapping a magic keyboard keycap to the new MacBook Peo.

The magic keyboards are very reliable and has good feel to it
We have over 20-25 on my studio and all are used everyday for almost 3-4 years
Maybe only if you are angry and crush the keys you can get them stuck
